How the Worlds Best Surfers Pop Up (Slow Motion) Brent Rose 2018-06-18 | I've always wanted to see the top pro surfers' pop-up technique in slow motion, so when I had the opportunity to shoot the WSL Founder's Cup at Kelly Slater's Surf Ranch, I rented a long lense and started shooting 120fps, which I then slowed down 5x for this video. I found it really interesting, so I decidedto share it so we could all learn from it. I was surprised that there were so many different techniques among these best. Tell me what you see here. And when we can't even agree on what is real then we can't have a simple conversation, and that is incredibly dangerous. Deliberate, self-serving misinformation isn't supposed to come from the highest office in the land, and neither is hateful rhetoric about people of color, immigrants, or anyone else who disagrees with you. His policies are designed to make the rich richer, while pandering to poor whites to make them believe he cares about them. He doesn't care at all. He just needs your votes. Don't let him use you and convince you to vote against your own interests.So, I decided to make this video. I'm not an influencer, and I don't have a huge audience, but if I convince one person out there who wasn't going to vote (or who was going to vote for Trump) to vote for Joe Biden, then I consider it worth it. AXOLOTL!! Swimming with these incredible, Critically Endangered amphibiana Brent Rose 2020-08-10 | Axolotl. Axolotl?? AXOLOTL!! These neotenic salamanders are classified as Critically Endangered in the wild. They were discovered in the canals outside of Mexico City, and pollution is driving them to extinction, BUT somewhere in the mountains of Montana, there are lakes that never dry up and that have no fish in them, so these salamanders never have to grow up. From Wikipedia "Axolotls are unusual among amphibians in that they reach adulthood without undergoing metamorphosis. Instead of developing lungs and taking to the land, adults remain aquatic and gilled." They are also perhaps the most-studied amphibian because they have incredible regenerative abilities. They can re-grow arms, legs, tails, eyes, and organs, including parts of their brains! The same lake you've seen in a few recent shots from is where I found these guys. I paddled out with my surfboard, goggles, and GoPro, and I saw dozens of these amazing creatures. If you want to learn more about these little wonders I highly recommend you look up the article in Scientific American called "Biology's Beloved Amphibian--the Axolotl--Is Racing toward Extinction." I feel so lucky to have had a chance to swim with them. Thanks again to Wes Siler for pointing me toward them.

Babys First Highland Bowl Snowboarding (Aspen, CO) Brent Rose 2018-12-17 | A couple weeks ago I finally checked off a goal I've been eyeballing for the past three years: Hiking/boarding the Bowl at Aspen Highlands. The bowl has some of the steepest in-bounds pitches in the US and because you have to hike for it to 12.3K feet (about 800 feet of vertical without much oxygen in the atmosphere, but plenty of wind and single-digit temps), you can find powder stashes for days and days. The stabilization does a pretty amazing job, but it does crop 10% off of all the edges and I can't help but wish I had more of the foreground in the shot. Zebra Slot Canyon while full of water and a camera in each hand. Brent Rose 2018-11-26 | Thought I'd share some #BTS (behind the scenes) for a change. I'm really happy with the shots I got from this particular slot canyon in Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument (see some of my recent instagram posts at www.instagram.com/brentdangerrose ), but while I like the photos themselves, it's how I got them that stands out most in my mind. The water was freezing and more than chest-deep in places, the passage was an extremely tight squeeze, and I didn't have the use of my hands because I had to keep my #SonyAlpha high and dry in one hand and I had my #GoPro in the other, shooting this video. I lost a fair amount of skin from my knees, elbows, and ankles, and my shoulders were throbbing by the end. But it's the adventure that I think back on and grin. Get. The. Shot. I was mostly there to write and take photos, but I grabbed a handful of slow-motion videos along the way and I really liked how they turned out. These were all shot at 120fps and then mixed down to 24p for a smooth 5x slow motion effect. All these clips were from my Sony A7Riii with a 100-400mm lens and a 2x teleconverter for some of the longer shots.
