It's been a while since I've regularly made lofi playlists. Just because I made so many of them, I got tired! And also, of course, my focus on this channel had to shift when I began working on my own upcoming video game.

But alas! I have been making some time to post a bunch this month. Fair compensation for my absence...

I'm surprised I haven't made a dedicated Chrono Cross playlist yet! I haven't sunk my time into the game as much as I have with Chrono Trigger, which is probably part of the reason. But I do genuinely love its soundtrack a TON, and I consider it a worthy follow-up to Chrono Trigger's OST.
I'll share my thoughts as we go through...

I feature a lot of Kannibal's songs from "Chronowave 2" in this. Be sure to check it out! This stuff is really incredible, as you'll see. There was no better way to start this list.
2:55 - On the Beach of Dreams ~ Another World (Sad Gatomon)
This track is one of the most iconic from the game, and for good reason. It really carries this sense of mystery and awe, and its relaxing energy pairs well with lofi beats.
5:35 - Reminiscing ~ Uneraseable Memory (Heirin)
Heirin's Chrono Cross lofi mix is also extremely good, layering the original tracks in effects and beats. It really creates a great vibe for this time of year!
7:13 - Guldove ~ Home World (Kannibal)
I really like how funky the beat gets in this one! It creates a very distinct tone that meshes well with the melodies.
11:27 - Fragment of a Dream (DJ Cutman)
The remix was titled "Leaving the Body", a different song in the OST, but it's actually a take on Fragment of the Dream, so I corrected it. Either way, it's very neat!
14:44 - Forest of Cutting Shadows (Kannibal)
This track has always been one of my favorites in the OST. I find it so underrated. So... It's no secret I JUMPED at the chance to include a remix of it.
17:42 - Dream of the Shore near Another World (sebastien skaf)
Where do you most frequently listen to my playlists? I feel like this would absolute pair well by the beach, as the song title suggests...
20:19 - Lost Fragment (Heirin)
I can't explain it, but the groove on this one... One of those tracks you could just get lost in.
23:44 - Frozen Flame (Kannibal)
Another of my favorites from the OST. The ethereal energy of this remix is spectacular!
25:59 - Fields of Time (Midi Music)
Technically this is synthwave, not lofi, but with a track THIS good, I think it's excused.
30:41 - Life ~ Distant Promise (Kannibal)
Another favorite... Kannibal really has a knack for giving this soundtrack a really nice edge with the compressed sounds.
35:34 - Star-Stealing Girl (Kannibal)
Star-Stealing Girl is arguably up there in competition as best song in the Chrono series, so I'm happy to see it getting love.
39:01 - On the Beach of Dreams ~ Another World (Heirin)
I will always take the chance to listen to this song more.

This is DEFINITELY one I can add to my walking playlists. I go walking in nature a lot, and used to spend quite a lot of time listening to lofi out there. In recent times, I've mainly just been using it as an excuse to listen & review my upcoming game's soundtrack...

It's simple, but effective! I think the cricket sounds and the like really help give this some depth.
47:51 - The Girl Who Stole the Stars (Heirin)
Whenever I hear this, I think of a very important character in my video game that I am working on. You'll probably be able to guess who if you play it.

One of my personal favorite remixes of this list. I really just can't get enough of it!
54:02 - Radical Dreamers (Kannibal)
I knew I had to include this from the moment I first listened to the first second of this track. It really just enhances the incredible bittersweet aura in this state...
1:00:14 - On The Beach of Dreams ~ Another World (Tymedust Games)
This nice little upbeat one I wanted to end it on. I will be uploading a bunch more playlists in the coming week or so, to make up for my abscence! Then, I'll probably slow down to once or twice a month.

This is one of my favorites - the woodwind instrument really catches my ear.

It both feels close to the original and yet a totally different direction. As it should be!
4:59 - Small Talk
A great variation on Small Shock, putting Asgore motifs in a very peaceful context
6:11 - We're Not Feeling Blue
This perfectly emulates the feel of an upbeat Toby Fox song while also feeling so distinct in it's own right.
9:01 - Calming Beats to Reflect and Relax to 🌻
It's an interesting decision to turn the options menu songs into full themes! I'm here for it.
10:46 - Rock Around the Clock
I always enjoy the funkier melodies in this game. This totally succeeds at capturing the vibe of a 50's diner.
12:09 - Chill by the Grill
I hear that Chrono Trigger rhodes... It's very chill indeed. Reminds me of Hip Shop.
13:16 - A Place to Call Home
Perhaps my favorite song in the game, I quite like this variation on the Home theme. Feels much more welcoming!

Lots of Earthbound-y organ sounds in this!

They did it... They made Flowey's Theme legitimately chill...

The 1.0 credits theme... Wow... The wait between updates is more than certainly worth it for material this quality.

The steel drums is a fittingly funky direction for this!

They did it... They made the snowdin motif into a summer theme... And it sounds REALLY pleasant and vibrant!
24:47 - Resting Spot
It reminds me a lot of "Quiet Water" from Undertale! The water sounds definitely make the chill vibe effective.

Lots of soundfonts at play... It definitely captures a nice moment, though!
27:24 - Guiding Light
The festival was such a silly little interlude. The whole 2.0 update had so many incredibly fun segments, but this deserves a special shoutout for being such a nice new concept.
29:23 - Bloomin' Buzz
I hear that Chrono Trigger marimba... And of course, the Genesis soundchip melodies! Very catchy variation on the Shop/Dating Start/Snowdin motif from Undertale.
30:12 - The Queen
It's so interesting how Fallen Down was completely reinterpreted for this game. It really captures a longing, sorrowful feeling, while not sounding outright sad.
31:36 - Together
The bitcrushed piano was an interesting direction to take this piece! I quite enjoy it.
33:43 - Burgerpant Origins
Truly, a masterpiece to capture a tale for the ages...
35:32 - Chilly Beats to Feel Jolly and Relax to ❄
My favorite of the options menu themes! It's just got a nice sounds to it.

Aphex Twin - Emotional/Melancholy Ambience for Stress Relief

Lavos 2024-01-18 | We have reached 14,000 subscribers.. So, why not try something a little different? If you like this, I wouldn't be opposed to making more (and longer!) Aphex Twin mixes.
Aphex Twin is my favorite musical artist, and makes a good musical inspiration for my own compositions - he covers such a diverse range of tones and you can tell from his self-taught nature that experimenting with sound comes very natural to him.
The airplane footage is all mine. I couldn't think of anything else better I had on hand to capture the emotions his music gives me.

This is perhaps my very favorite Aphex Twin track. It has this tone of so loving yet melancholic. I remember seeing a comment that once phrased it as "like a love letter to someone who will never hear it" and I find that to be quite accurate in describing how it makes me feel.

It's one of those songs which reminds me of pool hotels when I was little. Very.. Liminal.. I do say...
It's impressive, seeing his first album to his latest releases containing so many masterpieces.

I quite enjoy this one, and I quite enjoy making things for my game which sound like this. The personal, emotive energy conveyed within the live playing of this.. It's almost indescribable.
8:20 - Rhubarb
One of the most iconic melancholic Aphex Twin tracks, and for good reason. This emotive and tearjerking piece has a nostalgic, yet bittersweet energy. Like how it feels letting go of someone you've loved. I see this song often associated with the passing of relatives and such and I understand why.

Blue carpet... The sounds of childhood memories. Do you still remember your first memory? Mine was waking up at age 3 to play with an RC car based on the one in Toy Story. It was the first experience I could consciously recall, and while some details after that are muddy.. This one stayed.
17:41 - Petiatil Cx Htdui
Another thing that I quite enjoy making things for my game sound like. It's got this sort of.. Cathedral-like, mysterious and explorational energy that I don't really see in the other Aphex piano tracks. It sort of gives me energy like Manoria Cathedral out of Chrono Trigger. Imagine "Silent Light" rearranged to sound like this...
19:51 - Stone in Focus
Here is some advice for you - Prepare a warm bath, close your eyes, and play this track. I think that is the closest we as humans can get to achieving true inner peace. This track is an ethereal, minimalist masterpiece.

It's a short and simple one, but I really like it. For some reason, it conjurs images of the toxic jungle in the movie "Nausiccaa of the Valley of the Wind" to mind.
38:19 - Red Calx (slow)
Probably the greatest sleep music Aphex has made. I strive to make things as minimal yet powerful as this track...
43:26 - Blue Calx
It's very different than Red Calx but also conveys similar feelings. It feels very vast. Selected Ambient Works Vol. 2 was my first exposure to Aphex and still my favorite of his material. It just feels like something that only comes once in a lifetime.
50:43 - Slothscrap
Perhaps the most depressing and emotive track in his entire catalogue.
55:33 - Btoum-Roumada (slow)
I don't think I have words to describe this. Loud yet not angry, sad yet not despairing, emotive without much in terms of melody... I really hope if you're a longtime viewer of this channel that this does a great job introducing you to Aphex.
58:10 - Nanou2
And we end with another piano beauty... It's really summing up my state of mind right now. A conclusive ending, and yet looking up, grateful for the beauty that exists in the present and awaits in the future.

Earthbound sampling to match the original's Chrono Trigger sampling... Pretty neat

I think the original Fallen Down (the reprise is great tho) is one of the more overrated tracks, but this adds some neat layers to it.

This part really sets up the expectation it'll be like Undertale. The subversion caught me off guard!

Groove and intrigue.. You always gotta love a track which brings out both so well!

I enjoy this a bit more than the UT game over theme! The acoustic guitar just adds so much.

A really pleasant take on a snow theme. The piano is simply breathtaking.

I'm trying not to spoil a lot of the game here since the story genuinely took some unexpected directions but wow... It did definitely get intense. It was awesome.

I don't quite remember where this one was in the game but it is a good destressing track.

Chrono Trigger instruments, space-y ethereal vibes... Crazy this isn't something I made!
43:45 - One's Past...
This track seems heavily inspired by "At the Bottom of Night" from Chrono Trigger. Not that I'm complaining... I like that track a lot.
45:16 - The Freedom to be Flawed
This track easily has the coolest name and also is just one of the best tracks in the game. I really enjoyed how tracks started getting more dynamic here - the stories told by tracks are always interesting!
46:54 - UG Apartments
This was one of my favorite little bits of the game - seeing the MTT resort before it got MTT resort-ified was such a genuine treat. They really had a good ratio of callbacks & original material.
48:22 - An Acquittal
It feels like the end of a long climb. My viewers who also hike and explore, do you agree?
49:00 - Tucked In
A perfectly nostalgic and endearing little melody. This fangame does excel at those!
50:22 - Gift
No spoilers but.. Yeah this point got to be such a tearjerker. This game really is a labor of love. It has its issues, especially with difficulty, but this song and the scene around it symbolize why I still enjoy this greatly.
54:00 - Undertale Yellow
Very similar in style to Undertale's pacifist ending theme but with so much more bittersweetness surrounding the thing. Quite a fulfilling experience in the end!
57:57 - A Place to Rest
Acoustic guitar.. And more Chrono Trigger strings!? It's like my lucky day for video game music I didn't know I needed in my life! Seriously, absolutely one of my favorite tracks.
59:58 - Adjourned
It's like this game's take on "Before the Story"... I'll be listening to this on my walks now.

Pale Machine 1 & 2 (Bo En)

Lavos 2023-11-21 | All credit for the music goes to @boenyeah. This puts the two Pale Machine albums back-to-back! There’s more in the Expansion Pack, but I picked these songs specifically to match the best with Pale Machine 2.

PALE MACHINE --

Our journey begins with this nice, soft little string motif. It's quite a fun little welcome.
2. Miss You - 0:31
A really cool aspect about this album is how in the lyrics, the whole everything really, it blends Japanese & English together. I mean, this literally extends to the "I Miss You" sample, which is from the JRPG EarthBound. It's cool!
3. Be Okay - 3:58
This is one of those songs which just tickles my brain, if you will. It's a real brain-tickler. The samples are funky, the melodies cool, and listening to this makes me feel like I just traveled several years back in time...
4. Every Day - 7:39
This is one of my favorites. Something's inherently catchy about how it builds and climaxes. Especially at moments like 8:48. I don't know music terms very well... And I MAKE music... I just like things that sound cool.
5. Friend - 10:11
I quite like how the vocals get more "scratchy" the later the song goes on in this one. It makes the progression feel interesting and nice. The instrumental side feels more standard but the progression & vocals compensate.
6. Winter Valentine - 13:03
Perfect winter driving music for sure. I just have an appreciation for how they make the instrumental piece the forefront of this track, while most the others so far have been driven by vocals or samples. Just a really fun listen!
7. Pale Machine - 16:18
This is my favorite. All the strengths of others I've mentioned are present in this - Interesting vocals, unique sounds & blended languages, a pretty awesome progression, and real neat instrumental stuff. Just an absolute banger.
8. My Time - 20:55
Ah.. The classic, and probably a lot of people's favorites, considering its presence in OMORI really opened a lot of people's eyes to this album. It's rad! And I like how the outro brings back the prelude strings.

PALE MACHINE Expansion Pack -
1. Money Won't Pay (with augustus) - 25:53
Why does this make me think of WALL-E? I literally have no clue. But I really like WALL-E, and I really like this track. As such, I have zero complaints.
2. I'll Fall (feat. COR!S) - 29:51
This one is another one with a really fun progression. I can’t tell if I can hear Chrono Trigger marimba & trumpet sounds.. Either way, this track is just pure high quality. The end seems to call back to My Time a little…

PALE MACHINE 2 -
01. Prelude (with Toby Fox) - 33:30
This is a really cool extension of the “Intro” strings into a full track. I can hear the My Time motif in a part.. And Toby Fox’s vibe seems to have meshed well and added to the calming nature vibe.
02. I Still Miss You (with Tomggg) - 37:00
This is a really sweet welcome back. It really feels like a showcase of how far Bo En has come as an artist, it starts out similar but more upbeat before just embracing a new, way faster paced and frantic fun vibe.
03. Be Okay '23 (with Avec Avec) - 40:07
Another funky faster variation, this one embraces the charm of the original while just giving it a really sweet and effective new sort of progression.
04. Every Day I Walk Around Like Crazy! Don't You? (with Plus-Tech Squeeze Box) - 43:38
This one feels like some upbeat jam I’d listen to while I walk around like crazy in the summer. So I suppose the title fits! Overall this one is the most different (so far), but I like it.
05. (We Are) Friends (with Winamp Boys) - 45:54
I didn’t find the original Friends particularly standout, but this honestly might be my favorite from Pale Machine 2. It builds on the funky vocals, while injecting a manic energy into the track that makes me wanna groove. The breaks in the pace feel almost angelic..
06. I Hate Winter (with Cwondo) - 50:28
Me too, Bo En... This flips the original and adds melancholic vibes with far more focus on the vocals and samples. Then midway through with the drum breaks.. Yeah. It’s a real treat.
07. Paler, Still Paler - 53:03
This one strips the false happiness of the original away, just emphasizing that pure melancholia. It makes it a good build from the last track, and a really atmospheric late night listen on its own. I just.. I really appreciate this.
08. Our Time (with PAS TASTA) - 54:51
The new piano melodies and effects really make this feel distinct from the original, with an almost more introspective energy at points. And the buildup now just feels EPIC. An incredible build on the original’s foundation.
09. MWP '03 (with Kane West) - 58:43
It keeps the bopping, fun energy of the original while injecting this synthy groove to it that really feels like an old friend. This feels like nostalgia for something I’ve never met…
10. I'll Fall (Again) (with Bamster & Babymorocco) - 1:02:04
And we end with one last banger. Let’s quiet down, and just enjoy the tune.

RIBBIT - Full Playthrough (All 3 Major Endings) [Deltarune Mod]

Lavos 2023-11-15 | RIBBIT is a bizarre, intricate & endearing Deltarune mod created by @BeholdMaxine .
It's half shitpost inspired by the works of Toby Fox, half psychological horror inspired by Manos: The Hands of Fate (an infamously bad B movie.) I played it about a year ago but since then I decided to record a playthough of the new, overhauled version.
It's got all the references to cult classic games you want (including a few direct Chrono Trigger shoutouts, which makes sense given frogs and all.)
It's... Honestly my favorite fangame of anything I've personally played. And that is a bit of a bold statement.
But I can't even think of another fangame that I have played which just... I dunno. Feels like me, at something I'd write at a certain point in my life. 'Cept ironically, I'm not good at writing fan-things. My own projects like videos & games & stuff always start as fan-things but then become original-things.
Point is, RIBBIT's writing & style are just.. Incredibly resonant with my personal creative niche. You don't get much exposure to that on this channel but can probably see that side more on my @SucreAmygdalum channel. Although my most high quality work (that being, work on fully remaking my inarguably sloppy first game & its soundtrack) is not shown there yet.

Still, RIBBIT is one of the rare things (along with Yume Nikki and OFF) which to me have felt like "If I made a game, it'd probably feel like this. This feels like me".
Speaking of, the music used in this mod is great - it's got plenty of stuff I already listen to (fitting since people have described my own music as "Aphex Twin & evil Toby Fox ambience") and introduced me to some great new stuff, in particular highlighting a great load of tunes from jazz to EDM to some all around banger VGM. Thus, I highly recommend everyone play this mod with Definitive OST turned on. The music choices will rock your world. The psychological horror is inspiring to my own works, and it shouts out games & stuff I genuinely like a lot. And overall it's a damn good time.
Another random tidbit - There is a scene in the game with a tabby cat and a tuxedo cat.. And I have a tabby cat & a tuxedo cat. The ones in the game are different genders than mine but yknow it's still a weirdly specific coincidence for a fangame that already resonates with me a lot!

Lavos 2023-11-13 | Another Checkpoint.. This one I’ve been wanting to do for a while now.
It’s nice to relax and do these. I feel as though I have been sort of “neglecting” this channel due to life stuff getting in the way.

But seeing as I usually upload a few times a month for my original work, I want to try and upload at least weekly for this as well! Chrono Resurrection - Corridors of Time (Lavos Edit)

Lavos 2023-11-09 | Chrono Resurrection's Corridors of Time, produced by the talented Mathew Valente, is one of the most iconic Chrono Trigger covers ever produced... So I decided, why not give this an edit?

What could have been... What would the future have lain in store for Chrono Resurrection had it not met its untimely fate nearly 20 years ago? I am not sure. Sometimes, it's better to appreciate what you have in the present than regret what was lost in the past.

Evangelion - Classical Music Mix

Lavos 2023-07-18 | Notice: This video contains songs from the original series & End of Evangelion only. No songs from Death/Rebirth or the Rebuilds are in this mix. The songs from Ep 24 & EoE are the actual ones used, but the Ep 15 & 22 tracks are simply my closest approximations to the versions used in the show.

So I watched Evangelion recently - that being, the original series, End of Evangelion, and all the Rebuilds. I enjoyed it thoroughly and I found its psychological message to be something I rather needed to hear at this point in my life - it is a good reminder on how escapism cannot substitute the beauty of human interaction.
Evangelion has a lot of interesting aesthetic choices - of course there's the obvious religious themes, from the angels (which more resemble what would be called in today's terms a "biblically accurate angel" than anything else), to artifacts like the Spear of Longinus (which is totally badass), to the presence of cross & crucifix motifs, but most of all I find the inclusion of classical music to supplement many scenes a very interesting touch.
I decided I'd either do a Chrono Trigger soundfont cover or make my first Eva playlist - I decided it would be more fun to make a playlist to start, though!

I have ordered each song by its source episode/movie.

Ah... What good is a day without Chrono Trigger lofi? There are many excellent video game remixers out there in the world, but Chrono Trigger seems to just bring out a special spirit in so many song creators. It's really just quite magical!!

It's certainly been a little while since part 6! I have a lot of stuff going on, but I'll try to keep this series going for a good few years! 10 hours of Chrono Trigger lofi... Will soon be approaching...

This is a remix which for some inexplicable reason I’ve always been very partial to. This reminds me a lot of what walking in Autumn or late Summer feels like, the air has a different feel to it as the humidity drops and especially in Autumn as leaves begin to drop too.

Metroid Fusion - Vs. Serris (Chrono Trigger Soundfont)

Lavos 2023-03-19 | So I was playing Metroid Fusion and I realized that the Serris battle theme utilized a lot of the same instruments as the Lavos final battle theme. So I thought, why not do a little soundfont cover of this thing??
It's such a menacing groove... The most fun kind of boss theme indeed.

- Been pretty well, after a shoutout directed towards my original works channel it's been growing. I have several projects lined up for it, and some more collaborative stuff, so check there for updates.
- This channel, I have a lofi mix, an Omori mix, and a Chrono Trigger 28th birthday video coming up.
- Divine Purpose progress has been going smooth, with 295 of the game's 315 songs completed as of typing this. My main goal now is mapping rooms & creating encounters. Following that will be doing writing & art, but all in all it will certainly be ready to meet the August release date.
- Thinking about setting up a patreon, or shop for my original stuff, in order to ensure I can keep running this channel for years to come.
- Recovering well from seasonal affective disorder that regularly bites me from about November-March.

All in all, I hope you enjoy the video! And feel free to enjoy this checkpoint as well.

Chrono Trigger - lofi/chill mix (Remastered)

Lavos 2023-01-28 | A remaster of my oldest lofi mix! This changes things up - instead of a still image with flicker effects, now it's some of my own gameplay with accompanying noise and filtration!! All audio volume has also been mastered so no songs are louder/softer than others.
Please let me know if you'd like to see more mixed remastered with gameplay.
I'd love to do this for more CT, Undertale/Deltarune, or OMORI!

I sat on the trunk of a fallen tree, overlooking a vast pond. I was alone and at peace, and the emotion of that natural scenery translated perfectly to the emotion of the music.

A very underrated cover of a very underrated final battle music. I always see people calling Last Battle "a disappointment" and I cannot quite understand it. The original is one of the most inspiring songs to my own compositional style that I have ever encountered, and this cover is a breathtaking work of art.
22:40 - Singing Mountain (The Consouls)
The most iconic "unused" song I've ever heard. A sincere and beautiful yet rather playful cover of this theme. I remember a few years ago; listening to this as it snowed for the first time. It was quite unforgettable, I think.
27:28 - At the End of All Things (Abadoss)
An OCReMix! And a very different, yet peaceful one at that. It's a song I've wanted to feature in something for some time now - and I'm happy to have the opportunity here!

Schala's Theme... One of the most iconic things ever presented in the game. In my opinion, this is the perfect cover of this thing. No other cover gets the emotion of the original down so expertly and yet is able to expand upon it so much.

This song. One of the Chrono Trigger covers that is personally most moving to me. I heard it and first began to appreciate it during a rather depressive episode in my life and ever since I've always cherished the emotional yet minimalist take on these song.

Another one which is very personally stirring for me. I couldn't help but ever since I heard this, I have imagined this as making excellent wedding music. I am sure that one day, I will be able to fulfill that and hear this as I walk down the aisle!!

I did not realize I had this saved until I went searching during this video. It's soft and peaceful yet has a power all of it's own. It can be difficult for a song to manage such a contradictory yet amazing tone yet those songs are always the greatest.

This is my first time featuring Kara Comparetto's piano works, I believe. She really has some incredible stuff, so I do hope I can feature more on this channel in the future!! And a lovely note to end this wonderful mix on.

Lavos has well, gone far over the years.
It started in 2018... 5 years ago now. Wow.
The original channel hosted content that was mainly extended versions of remixes and albums, almost exclusively related to Chrono Trigger. However, it was copystruck by Square in 2021, around the time it copystriked and killed the Taia777/internet checkpoint channel.
Since then, this channel has served to host primarily playlists - Chrono themed but also some more linked to Toby Fox games, Omori, Donkey Kong & other SNES titles, and more.

The winner of the "which game should have a multi-hour long nature playlist" poll, Undertale and Deltarune have some spectacular relaxing music. So why not show them the love they deserve in a nature-themed playlist? This mix includes both OST by Toby Fox (mainly the in-game versions) and incredibly realized remixes by various artists.
And the nature photos are all ones I took either last year or the year before that! I have quite fond memories of listening to this music while walking.

Ah... Princess Mononoke. One of my absolute favorite Ghibli movies out of the ones I've seen so far (rounding out my top 3 from the Studio that also includes Spirited Away and Whisper of the Heart).

Lavos 2022-07-17 | It's been a year since the original Checkpoint lofi video was uploaded, also marking a year since Taia777's c&d'ing by Nintendo, and the Taia777 channel was later outright taken down by Square Enix.
But just as I have come back from the dead after a Square Enix escapade, so can the checkpoints! After all, we always can make a checkpoint if we're here to save the game.

Spirited Away - lofi/chill mix

Lavos 2022-06-25 | My first lofi playlist that isn't about a video game since the Bojack Horseman one! It's been a while, huh?
There are only two works of art out there that give me a certain special feeling - those being Chrono Trigger for the SNES, and Spirited Away, my favorite game and movie, respectively.
Something about Chihiro's journey is just so beautiful to me. A film layered with commentary and talent in every area, with especially incredible artwork and music.

The songs here were originally composed by Joe Hisaishi, and the film of course is created by Studio Ghibli.

Lavos 2022-06-06 | The sixth video in my series of playlists containing my favorite Chrono Trigger lofi mixes. It's been a little while since the last entry! Lofi Lia mixes have always been high quality, but this one just feels above and beyond. Out of any of my lofi playlists I feel like this one really captures warm evening feel which inspired the imagery of the lofi video. (The "lofi girl" imagery was actually originally taken from a Ghibli movie, Whisper of the Heart. Check it out, it's great!)

It's a rather small assortment of artists this mix, and I suppose that's a result of me sifting through a lot of lofi albums. I like Kanjigo's stuff - captures the late night feel super well, and this really does feel like a fanfare for those struggling with late night studies.

Wind Scene never stood out to me too much in the original game, so I credit lofi with helping me appreciate it more!

This is the first time I've heard this song in lofi, and it feels like a really good capture on the playlist! Minimalist yet beautiful. This whole mix feels like a warm summer evening to me, and it's quite an inspiration.

I do appreciate how low-key this is. A lot of the earlier works of Insaneintherain, like his Wind Scene, have more minimalist feel to them, and I really appreciate that. Everyone loves to head for bombastic and loud, but really the quiet is what can make a piece memorable.
12:45 - Forest Interlude (Jazztick)
I know this image is from Returns and this is a SNES DKC playlist, but I feel like this tune suits the image I chose perfectly. I was replaying the first DKC and it spurred me to make this mix.

This is another one with that low-key feel. Insaneintherain truly was a great, in all of his years of creation, and I do wish for all the best regarding his future in music.

You might remember NyxTheShield's pieces from my Checkpoint lofi mix if you watched that, and I decided to put them here since 1: I adore them, and 2: they suit the different context very, very nicely.
31:30 - Forest Interlude (Andrew Moniz)
I really love how heavily the guitar features in this cover! Jazz guitars seem to become quite overlooked by VGM remixers, who often go for horns and saxes instead. It has a vibe which reminds me of "Dream of Green" from Chronology: A Jazz Tribute to Chrono Trigger, which is my favorite VGM jazz album of all time. Speaking of VGM jazz albums, I stumbled on that Plants Vs. Zombies one and it's really nice. All in all, what I'm saying is that this goes right up there with the greats of VGM jazz.
35:53 - Mining Melancholy (Insaneintherain)
One of the earliest non-Chrono Trigger jazz covers I listened to. I bring up CT a lot in the context of VGM remixes, as I was introduced to the idea of VGM remixes by Chrono Trigger mixes. So I tend to talk about it a lot in the context of other remixes, because both CT and DKC remixes like this are so, so good and it provides me a good lense of comparison for other mixes.
40:46 - Aquatic Ambiance (NyxTheShield)
One reason I really like Nyx's jazz mixes (Hey, nice rhyme!) are the flutes. They, like that one Forest Interlude, suit the image quite well - and I always try to make sure the image I pick is representative of the tone of the playlist as a whole. Of course it's good to have a variety of moods but those three capture the spirit best in my opinion.
47:07 - Forest Interlude (The Consouls)
I appreciate that this isn't only minimalist but also very long. It provides a lot of time for the performers to get into it and just mess around, like you can just feel that they had a blast making this. I think that's the number one reason why I love VGM remixes as a whole - I love feeling the passion others have for the timeless music of games!
54:13 - Gangplank Galleon (Insaneintherain)
Back when Smash Brothers Ultimate was being announced and I got my three pipe dream picks - Ridley, K. Rool, and Piranha Plant - all in the game, it was crazy. As a result I relate Gangplank Galleon more to Smash than I do DKC! This recreates that exciting, yet laid back feel of those early directs, back when the world was nicer and DLC was still miles away.
59:44 - Stickerbush Symphony (The Consouls)
A nice chill one to end it with. Between Aquatic Ambiance, this, and Forest Interlude, Stickerbush Symphony always was my least favorite of the three. But seeing people breathe so much more life into this, more than even the original tune, really makes it more special for me, of course combined with the influence it had on the "checkpoints". All in all, this was a very nice playlist to make, and I do hope you appreciate it.

This song... It feels both like an end and a beginning. I decided to do it first since it has the most feels. I mean come on, it's just plain beautiful. It makes me look forward to not just relistening to this song over and over, but this playlist as well.
2:17 - See You Tomorrow (MaximumGuitar)
I think this makes for another great playlist opener. It's a mix of guitar sounds, perfect for setting a little more of an upbeat tone as we venture through the rest of the playlist. It's a little more upbeat than the original without actively deviating from its tone, which is always a hard skill to manage.
4:39 - Remember To Be Patient (Phil.#02)
This one just has a tone to it which I really appreciate. Remember To Be Patient is my third favorite song from OMORI, so it's just lovely to see it translated to one of my all-time favorite instruments in such a perfect fashion. It honestly makes me want to create a part 2 to my "Familiar Sights" mix. That wasn't at all a popular mix but it was certainly one of the most fun for me personally to do.
6:19 - A Home For Flowers (tirednwired)
I'm certainly more than a little tirednwired myself right now...
But this playlist is nice.
Life itself is nice.
And good music to me always serves as a reminder of that.
7:34 - Sugar Star Planetarium (neonflower)
I only found this midway through making the playlist, and I really appreciate this.
It kinda has everything I like about OMORI rolled up into one, especially combined with that nice birthday art of Basil with Sunny. It has such a unique and powerful blend of emotions, combined with strong nostalgic longings, which gives it a power unique to its own environment.
Man, this is such a good tune. I can't even begin to describe it.
9:22 - Hanging with the Boys (Nostalgic CD)
Nostalgic really is the perfect word to describe this one.
It gives me such a pleasant feeling listening to this. Like I'm in a little beachside café or something!
It's quite a unique take on Hanging With The Boys, too. I like how different it ends up sounding, because it perfectly fits that vibe. I'd totally see this playing in that Summer memory section near the end of the game, even though I understand why they chose to use 100 Sunny instead.
12:23 - By Your Side (MaximumGuitar)
Nothing hits harder than Mari's theme, this is a universally agreed fact.
It's such a calming song, too. I've compared it to Fallen Down Reprise from Undertale, and I think that still holds true. It translates perfectly to acoustic too, because the compressed piano already sounds like a harp or a guitar already. MaximumGuitar has quite a number of skillful OMORI covers and I'm very happy to show them here!
15:33 - See You Tomorrow (SadToyCats)
While I adore the other See You Tomorrow on this list, I think this one suits the back half better since it's a little more like the original game version - a peaceful yet bittersweet tune. The perfect end to a warm summer day with friends, just like in the game. I really like how a lot of the covers here use other guitars to help make different parts of the song stand out - it makes it feel a lot more full, honestly. Never a dull moment!
17:21 - A Home Flowers (h e r b)
The background noises really make this one stand out for me.
I'm not sure if you know this or not, but I often go on nature walks, when the temperature permits, listening to this kind of stuff. Ambient, acoustic, piano covers from stuff from OMORI to Chrono Trigger to Spirited Away. It's quite nice, and helps relieve quite a bit of stress while getting your physical health up in a very simple way, and I highly recommend anyone and everyone watching this to do the same.
18:47 - Duet/Title Theme (MaximumGuitar)
No better way to end this than with the ultimate tearjerker, the Duet theme. But is it as ultimate a tearjerker as that opening Good Morning? That is up to you to decide!
The thing is, I wouldn't consider any of these songs sad. But I'm crying anyway, because the stuff on this playlist, in my opinion, captures that same kind of joy which the game holds so dear to its heart. Such wonderful covers! That's really all I can say.

Undertale - Orchestral Cover Collection

Lavos 2022-01-26 | I'm starting a new series-ish of videos here! That'll be an hour-to-two hours long collection of my favorite classical style/orchestral remixes from a game.

I'm excited to see where this can go! I got into VGM remixes through orchestra remixes of Chrono Trigger, and it'd been a while since I last listened to Undertale orchestras due to Deltarune and Omori conquering that place in my mind, so it was nice revisiting these covers after a while.
I try to stick with fan remixes on this channel (excluding holiday specials), so I didn't include the official orchestra versions here, sorry! I try to give passionate fans like you and me the spotlight.
