ElectrifyingThe Kia EV2 is the latest challenger in the increasingly competitive small EV market, but it has a tough job on its hands: taking on the Renault 4, one of Electrifying.com’s favourite electric cars.
Nicola Hume and James ‘Batch’ Batchelor put the two head-to-head to see which is the better buy. We compare range, charging, practicality, interior, technology, performance, ride and handling, pricing and value – and find out whether Kia’s futuristic new EV can really beat Renault’s clever retro offering.
The EV2 fights back with up to 281 miles of range, a longer warranty and faster peak DC charging, while the Renault 4 is lighter, quicker, more practical and cheaper to lease.
But which one would we actually spend our money on?
Watch the full twin test and let us know which one you'd choose in the comments.

Following the ID. Polo GTI, Volkswagen has revealed the new ID.3 GTI – and this one is serious about performance.
Nic Hume takes a closer look at VW’s new electric hot hatch, which packs 240kW (326PS), 545Nm and rear-wheel drive, making it the most powerful production GTI Volkswagen has ever built. It can hit 62mph in just 5.6 seconds using Launch Control, has a 124mph top speed and a predicted range of up to 373 miles.
And VW hasn’t simply bolted a big motor into an ID.3. The GTI gets specially tuned DCC sports suspension, a new GTI driving mode, unique 20-inch Wörthersee wheels and a suitably aggressive new front end. Inside, there are sports seats, GTI details and Volkswagen’s latest Innovision infotainment system.
Nicola takes a detailed walkaround to see whether Volkswagen has managed to capture the spirit of the legendary GTI in an electric car.

Nicki Shields explains why EV tyre design is a bit like Goldilocks: it’s all about getting the balance just right.
The new Renault Twingo is coming to the UK – and it could be one of the most exciting affordable EVs yet. But how does this tiny, lightweight electric car stack up against one of its closest rivals, the BYD Dolphin Surf?
Nicola Hume and Harry Benjamin put the two head-to-head, comparing everything from range, charging and practicality to interior space and driving fun. The Twingo is just 3.79m long, weighs around 1,200kg and uses a tiny 27.5kWh battery – yet Renault claims up to 163 miles of range. The Dolphin Surf is bigger, heavier and has a 43.2kWh battery, giving it up to 193 miles of range in the version we're testing.
But bigger doesn't necessarily mean better. The Twingo's light weight, clever sliding rear seats and brilliant manoeuvrability could give it the edge – while the Dolphin Surf counters with more space, more power and faster charging.
Which one would you choose?

The Škoda Epiq is about to enter one of the most competitive parts of the EV market – and it’s got an important trick up its sleeve. Space.
Starting from around £25,000, the Epiq is Škoda’s smallest and most affordable electric car, sitting below the Elroq, Enyaq and Peaq. But despite its compact dimensions, it has a 475-litre boot – bigger than both the VW ID. Polo and Cupra Raval, and even the Elroq.
Nicola Hume gets behind the wheel for a first drive to see whether the Epiq can take on the Kia EV2, Hyundai IONIQ 3, VW ID. Polo and Cupra Raval. With 37kWh and 52kWh battery options, up to 272 miles of range, 211hp and bidirectional charging, there’s plenty to like. But is it actually the best of the bunch?
Is the Epiq the small electric SUV to beat? Let us know in the comments!

Every week, the Electrifying.com meet online to discuss all the important matters at hand. Such as the weather, what we’re all having for our tea and who dumped who in last night’s Love Island. Between these heavyweight subjects, we also talk about electric cars. A lot. Probably an unhealthy amount to be honest.
And when we do discuss cars, we find out a lot. From industry gossip to the more mundane practicalities of electric car ownership, it’s the place where we dish the dirt on the cars we’ve been driving and deliver our own verdicts on the latest electric car news. The all-new Volvo EX60 is here, promising up to 503 miles of range, ultra-fast charging, clever safety technology and one of the most impressive interiors in the premium EV class. But can it actually knock the BMW iX3 off the top spot?
Nicola Hume and James Batchelor put the two head-to-head to find out which is the better premium electric SUV.

Bigger than a Renault 5 but smaller than a VW ID.3, the Aion UT combines a 60kWh LFP battery with a claimed 268-mile WLTP range, 201hp and a 0-62mph time of just 7.3 seconds.
But the numbers aren't the most interesting thing about it. The UT has a surprisingly huge 440-litre boot, loads of rear-seat space and a very generous standard specification. And then there's Aion's rather impressive “Great 8” ownership package, including an eight-year/100,000-mile warranty, eight years of servicing and roadside assistance, plus eight years of MOT cover.
So can this newcomer take on the Renault 5, Renault 4, MG4, BYD Atto 2, Kia EV2 and Cupra Raval? And who exactly is Aion?
Join Vicky as she takes a first look at the Aion UT and find out why this could be one of the most interesting new affordable EVs of 2026. Subscribe to Electrifying for more new electric car reviews, first looks and buying advice.

The all-new Lexus ES350e aims to take on some serious rivals including the BMW i5, Volvo ES90, Audi A6 e-tron, and Mercedes C-Class. But with up to 361 miles of WLTP range and 150kW DC rapid charging, has the competition moved on too quickly and left Lexus behind?
In this first drive, Nicola takes you through everything you need to know about the new ES350e, from its design and plush interior to the battery, cruising manners, performance and practicality.
