Getriebeölwechsel Am JEEP Wrangler JK Unlimited, Automatik IEDNlab 2018-04-02 | Kurz, bündig und ohne Schnörkel erklärt - Getriebewannendichtung, Getriebeölfilter und Getriebeölwechsel am meinem 2007er JEEP Wrangler JK Unlimited Sahara, 2,8 CRD, Automatik.Warum in die Werkstatt gehen, wenn man sich hunderte von Euros sparen und viele Dinge selber machen kann?Irgendwann fing meine Getriebewanne an zu lecken. Die Silikon-Dichtung der Wanne war hin.Kurzerhand habe ich mir alle Teile besorgt, im Werkstatthandbuch nachgeschlagen und bin in meine Mietwerkstatt gefahren, um diese Arbeiten selber durchzuführen. Color Shift Problem With Panasonic GH5 - Black Levels Changing Over Time IEDNlab 2017-05-29 | When shooting Night Time Lapses, I examined color shifts with the GH5, starting at an indefinite frame. From that frame on, the black levels are changing to the worst.These shifts results in greenish to reddish jumps within the time lapse.This problem has been already mentioned by f-stoppers, as they had exactly the same problems with the GH4, years ago (and I also have had these problems with the GH4...and now with the GH5)Changing all values of a sequence to 128, 128, 128 helps a little bit and reduces these shifts, but they are still slightly visible.
PLANAR 2D Auxiliary Heater For Rooftop Tent - JEEP WRANGLER IEDNlab 2017-05-15 | This is a very short introduction of my freshly invented "Auxiliary Diesel Heater For My JEEP Wrangler Unlimited".I've built a pretty simple but effective tailgate rack for a 70 liter aluminumbox, where I installed a PLANAR 2D Diesel heater.The rack (3.8 KG) is made of "item"- aluminum profiles and attached to heavy duty tailgate hinges and the tailgate wheel carrier mount.The aluminum box ( 4KG) contains the heater module, as well as a 7 liter Diesel tank and all the electronic stuff (approx. 12 KG, incl. CPU vs. GPU - Redshift 3D - vs. Mental Ray | 3DSMax 2014 IEDNlab 2017-02-18 | Simpler Test mit einer Szene, wie sie bei mir öfter vorkommt.Dazu habe ich die in MR benutzte material-library für Redshift umgebaut, um performance-lags oder evtl. bugs/crashes/Renderfehlern vorzubeugen, wenngleich bei mir ca. 50% der MRmats in Redshift problemlos rendern und sogar fast wie das Original aussehen.Anmerkung:Da die ausgelastete CPU das gesamte System blockiert, hat Redshift das Bild in 3:23 min, anstatt 1:44 min gerendert.Fazit: in diesem Test ist Redshift ca. 94x schneller als Mental Ray. Medieval Viking Longboat On A Pier At Eikesdalsvatnet, Norway - VFX Shot IEDNlab 2014-10-28 | ...again a testshot for my VFX production "Natural Wonders - Norway".I´ve filmed the backplate with a Panasonic Lumix GH4 in 4K and downgraded to 1080p.The piers and the longboat are CG-Elements, modeled in 3DS Max and composed in After Effects.The original shot has been pretty foggy, therefore I also added CG-fog and wafts of mist.

Norway - VFX Shot | CG Integration IEDNlab 2014-10-03 | This is one of my attempts to enhance my 4K footage with some CG elements.I´ve shot the footage in Norway for the sixth part of my upcoming "Natural Wonders" sequel.I additionally enhanced the shot with some backplate elements to get a more dramatic scenary.It´s just a very fast testrender, so there´s still a lot of GI flickering.The viking boat itself isn´t textured very well...it´s a basic shader which still needs some dirt maps, as well as reflection maps etc.(will be added later)I´ve comped this shot to get a feeling for the details on the boat, which are missing at the moment and I´ve also wanted to know, how complicated it is, to melt CG elements more or less realistically in a cinematographic way, which is way different from what I normally do with all my 3D-stuff:)

Natural Wonders - Norway | 4K Teaser IEDNlab 2014-09-08 | This is the teaser for the upcoming sixth part of my "Natural Wonders"-sequel, which I´ve shot in Norway in 4K with a Panasonic Lumix GH4.It´s just supposed to show some small snippets to test the compression by Youtube, as well as occuring bendings and compression artefacts.The score is precomposed by me and final composed and arranged by my old friend Carles Piles.It´s still a temp-track and not finished right now as later on I wanna mix it with effects in 5.1.It´ll still take a while until "Natural Wonders - Norway" will be finished, as I´m still searching for the right look and feel and I´m not sure about the grading. Additionally I´m waiting for my new machine for optimizing my 4K workflow and get the job done a little bit faster:)Hope you like it somehow :) ...enjoy!

Panasonic GH4 - Car Mount - Short motionride in Norway IEDNlab 2014-06-30 | This is a very simple (and first) test with the GH4 mounted on my car, to check the behaviours of the different lenses I used with this car-setup. I also wanted to know, how stabilizable 1080p and 4K footage is, so several shots have been captured in FullHD, others in 4k and then have been downscaled. It´s really dependent on the lens (if stabilized or not, of course, aswell as focal length/AOV), the streets and the speed of the car. Mostly I drove between 50-70 KM/H and tried to avoid abrupt movements.Lenses I used:Panasonic Lumix G Vario 12-35mm/2,8 OISOlympus Objektiv M.Zuiko digital ED 9-18mm 4.0-5.6Samyang 7.5mm, f/3.5 FisheyeI think, I feel most comfortable with the stabilized Panny 12-25, which brought me the best performance, even on bumpy streets. Panasonic GH4 Viewfinder, Kinothenik LCDVF Displayloupe IEDNlab 2014-05-27 | I found it pretty hard to find a LCD-Viewfinder for the GH4, which fitted perfectly on the screen, without cropping screen elements (especially in movie mode), or leaving too much space on the left and right.There are different versions of 3:2 viewfinders and some of them didn´t fit at all, but this LCDVF (which I use for my Canon 7D too) covers the screen nicely.Advantage:super lightweight, 2,75x magnification, soft eye cup, strap and two frames are also in the package.Rockstable Viewfinder (my old one dropped down hundreds of time and it´s still alive:)Disadvantage:With the display flipped to the inside, the screen won´t fully close anymore, but as I always leave it open, it won´t bother me.And it´s expensive...(for such a piece of plastic and rubber.
Panasonic GH4 - Canon EF 70-200 1:4L USM - Test IEDNlab 2014-05-21 | I tried the 70-200L with a cheap Quenox adapter on the GH4 just to see, how it´ll perform, apart from that I´ve tested out different ISOs up to 800.Surprisingly, the performance of the Canon lens have been much better than expected and at 200mm (which is "400mm" on the GH4, cuz of Crop 2x) it worked brilliantly.Anything else above ISO 800 didn´t make sense, as at 800 it began to get noisy.I´ve sat the GH4 with lens on a 800 gr. Sirui travel tripod (full length) with a Gitzo videohead and even without stabilizer, the video is pretty stable.This footage has been shot in CineD-Style and it´s ungraded, no effects, filters, denoiser or whatever.I´ve uploaded this file in Apple ProRest LT (155 MBit/sec)wuaaaahh...after uploading I noticed that I´ve put ISO 400 for the last clip...that´s wrong....it´s ISO 800....sorry...;)
Panasonic GH4 - Clouds Timelapse Over Nuremberg - 4K IEDNlab 2014-05-20 | This my very first timelapse shot with a GH4 and the Lumix 35-100@ f.28, ISO 200.Unfortunately I had LOTS of aperture flickering, much more than I used to have with my old 7D, but MSU-Deflicker and VirtualDub did a great job in deflickering ;)
Natural Wonders - Grand Canyon IEDNlab 2014-05-04 | Finally I finished the 3rd part of my "Natural Wonders" miniMovies.This time its about the Grand Canyon, one of the most impressingcanyons, I´ve ever seen.I had to spend a huge amount of time for grading each shot extensively as I shot (by accident) with lots of different settings from superflat to highly saturated.So lots of shots got their particular grading as well as a lot of masks which I had to use, to separate the skys from the ground.This footage showed me again, how bitchy 7D footage can be, if you don´t know exactly what you do.I did a lot of shots out of a helicopter, but as it is - when you´re beginner - you do a lot of things, you shouldn´t do and of course...I did :DI tried my best to stabilize some of them, the rest...puhh...I had to put into trash. 360° Rainbow at the Piton des Neiges, La Reunion | 22 Degree Halo Effect IEDNlab 2013-11-30 | I shot this 360° rainbow, close to Piton des Neiges on Reunion a few days ago.Never saw such a phenomenon and it looked absolutely great.
Corvette C6 - Wrap In Blue Matte Metallic IEDNlab 2013-10-17 | This is a quick´n´dirty edit of some footage I shot, while my black Corvette C6 has been wrapped in Blue Matte Metallic.At first I wanted to wrap by my own, but after several tries and some research I decided to get a Pro.I designed all the decals and the visual behaviour of my baby on my 3D Workstation and showed the renderings to several Car Wrapping Professionals.The prices differed from "nearly nothing" to much too expensive, until I´ve found the guy from "Autofolierung Crailsheim" (close to my village), who had a decent price and his heart on the right side.I asked him, if I could take part for making some wraps by my own, he agreed, so we had a lof of fun for several days.We didn´t disassemble the big Corvette parts, we just loosend the front and rear bumper for getting more space between the edges.Later on I sealed all the edges with a special 3M sealing.Heaviest part have been the rear bumper, which should get wrapped in one piece and the side mirrors (pain in the ass).We needed several tries, because the wrapping sheets cracked all the time.We needed r.a. 25m of the 3M scotchprint 1080 sheet (the matte blue one), some smaller pieces of the 3M 3D-DiNoc for the roof and side mirrors.I´ve started with some smaller pieces like the rear spoiler (which got a rearview camera too), some parts of the dashboard and the center console.At first I wrapped the center console in carbon (like in the movie), but decided later on, to take the much better and brighter looking stainless steel-like sheets (don´t know the name anymore).Well...after getting more and more experienced I wrapped the roof (super easy), the filler cap, side markers, side mirrors and helped out for the bonnet, doors and the fenders.All in all the result is pretty much convincing, even if we made some smaller mistakes, which had to be fixed afterwards.Additionally I let the 4 times european champion Ronald Hau tint my rear window. The result is exceptional and I´ve never seen a better, faster and cheaper result...great thanks again!To paint the wheels I tried the "Plasti Dip" in matte black and yes...it looked great, has been easy to use and after a year it still looks really fantastic.

Industrial Gears by SEW Eurodrive - IF Design Award | intermedia-globe Award IEDNlab 2012-02-19 | This short feature is about the industrial gears of SEW Eurodrive and is supposed to show the fast transformation capabilities of their gears in a different way. The "IG gears" aka "Transformers" won the IF communication design award 2009 in the category "animation" and the intermedia-globe GOLD and GRAND Award 2010 by World Media Festival. I was Lead Animator on this project and animated 4 (of 5) transformations (building, truck, bucket-wheel excavator and the globe) as well as the cameras.
