Following its European debut at Le Mans, the Mustang GTD will make appearances at the 24 Hours of Spa and the Goodwood Festival of Speed. Accompanying this European tour will be an online storytelling series that delves into the components and engineering that make this Mustang a supercar contender. Using life-like computer-generated renderings, Ford will showcase the cutting-edge suspension, the supercharged V8 engine targeting over 800 horsepower, and more.

The application window for North American consumers closed on May 21, with more than 7,500 people applying to purchase a Mustang GTD for the 2025 or 2026 model years. This ambitious project will further expand to include a cathode active material and precursor (CAM/pCAM) processing plant in collaboration with POSCO Future M Co., Ltd., and a separator plant in partnership with Asahi Kasei Corporation. Honda anticipates that the production of electric vehicles will commence by 2028. Once fully operational, the EV manufacturing site is expected to produce up to 240,000 EVs annually, while the battery facility will boast a production capacity of 36 GWh per year. Additionally, the new facilities are projected to maintain the current workforce of 4,200 employees at Honda's existing factories in Ontario and create at least 1,000 new jobs for the EV and battery plants. In support of this significant undertaking, Honda is collaborating with the Canadian and Ontario governments to tap into advanced, low-emissions manufacturing initiatives. These include new Investment Tax Credits from the federal government and various provincial incentives.
As part of Honda's broader strategy to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, the company aims for battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs) to constitute 100% of its vehicle sales by 2040, particularly in North America, its largest market.
The initial phase of this electrification strategy involves transforming Honda’s existing automobile production facilities in Ohio, USA, into an EV hub. This includes retooling current plants with an investment of USD$700 million and building a joint venture EV battery plant with LG Energy Solution, expected to cost USD$4.4 billion.
The Ohio facilities will lay the groundwork for future EV and battery production and will share expertise with the new assembly and battery plants in Ontario, Canada. EV production at the Marysville Auto Plant in Ohio is slated to begin in late 2025.
As a subsequent phase, Honda aims to develop a full-fledged EV value chain in Canada, which will encompass everything from raw material procurement, primarily for batteries, to the manufacturing of finished EVs. By integrating the know-how from its Ohio EV hub and harnessing Canada’s rich resources and clean energy, Honda plans to secure a stable battery supply and enhance the overall cost-effectiveness of its EV operations.
Additionally, Honda is focused on fostering low-carbon solutions throughout the entire battery lifecycle, including secondary usage and recycling. This approach is intended to establish a profitable business foundation and contribute significantly to achieving a carbon-neutral future.
