Best antenna for the Icom IC-705 JPC-12 Antenna Off-Grid Ham Radio OH8STN 2022-11-14 | Testing the JPC-12 portable resonant vertical HF antenna with Icom IC-705. Is this the best antenna for the Icom IC-705? Perhaps it is, since Chameleon Antenna made their own version of it called the CHA PRV. The JPC-12 ( older models also known as the PAC-12 & JPC-7 ) is a coil-loaded quarter wave vertical antenna covering all ham radio bands from 40 meters through 50Mhz, including CB Radio. It is small, lightweight, extremely quick to deploy and very easy to setup. This was my first portable deployment with the JPC 12. I was operating QRP to 10 watts with the Icom 705. Antenna on the IC-705 was a single band 2m chassis antenna I'm testing. It comes from Wimo_germany webshop. Also tested was the 24ah portable power supply from @gigaparts , the 8 port windcamp power distribution strip, and the 160-watt monocrystallinesolar panel from @powerfilmsolar . QRP Portable Keep it simple & keep it small Off-Grid Ham Radio OH8STN 2022-07-31 | Less is more I'm portable ham radio! I believe the reasoning for qrp portable winlink station is clear. What we must prevent now is overloading ourselves with unnecessary gear. Manpacks are a cool looking way to "package" all the station components into an integrated system. That integration comes at the expense of size, weight, and reduced carrying capacity for more critical survival gear. For data Comms, why not use a radio which is energy efficient, self-contained, and doesn't require a bunch of other gear and wires modern rigs don't need? In these clips, there's a radio, tablet, and antenna. Nothing else. Keep it small, keep it simple. Otherwise, you'll find yourself leaving it behind.#oh8stn #hamradio #shorts
