The answer to this question is yes. If a splint test is performed in the presence of carbon dioxide, the splint will be extinguished. This is handled by performing a dilution, usually involving mixing the chemical with distilled water. I try to emphasize how important all observations are with them, no matter how small or trivial they may seem to be.
