Normally I just lock v-sync at 60 fps and am perfectly happy playing it that way with a controller. I don't see the point in cooking my hardware for single player games and capping the framerate to use less CPU and GPU power which helps them to run cooler, and use less power. This isn't a competitive online game like Counterstrike 2 or Fortnight, but I uncapped the framerate for this benchmark comparison.
I did notice that on Linux, it only ever seems to use a little over 13 gb of V-ram on my 16 gb card, and seems to run at a lower clock speed. I'm not sure if it doesn't recognize the rest of the ram or if maybe Vulkan is more efficient with V-ram and doesn't need as much. As you can see, the Windows gameplay and the Mint gameplay, kind of even out on averages near the end of the footage.
WIndows definitely has the better drivers and adrenaline software, but Linux still runs this game really well. They're pretty evenly matched here as you see.
Note: When I captured this footage it was at least 80+ degrees Fahrenheit (26-27c) in my room. It was a nice day outside and I had my windows open. That's why temps where a little high.
Note number 2: I used the Monster HDMI Capture Card I made a video about a while back to capture this footage externally. While Radeon Relive and GPu Record (on linux) work great, I wanted to show the pure performance of each OS. 4K passthrough, 1080p capture resolution. It's still a great budget card. Any Screen tearing in the footage is from using the capture card and not representative of what I was seeing on screen while I was playing.

If you haven't upgraded to the PS5 yet, and are still playing PS4, it's worth downloading and playing. You can't beat the free asking price and free online play.
Note: I am testing out the Monster 4K Black Audio Video USB 3.0 HDMI Capture Card for this footage
#thefinals #ps4pro #ps4 #gameplay
The official name for this capture card is the Monster 4K Black Audio Video USB 3.0 HDMI Capture Card, which is deceptive. It has 4K pass-through but only records at 1080p 60fps. So, you can pass a 4K signal through the capture card to your TV, but it only records at 1080p. I read the packaging and understood what it was saying, but it might mislead some people into thinking they are getting a 4K capture card for $21 instead of a 1080p capture card. So, that's kind of scammy, even if $21 is still dirt cheap for a 1080p60 capture card.

I'm far from good at this game, but I had a couple of good moments. I only play online games casually anymore. I don't care to get sweaty over gaming anymore.

I downloaded the Splitgate 2 Open Beta on my PS4 Pro earlier today to give it a try. It's pretty fun. I enjoyed the original Splitgate. I decided to play the PS4 version just to see how that version holds up. There's definitely lag, stuttering, and glitches, but overall, I've had a lot of fun playing this game today.

Heavely Sword is too early in the PS3's lineup to have trophy support. If you remember, Sony added trophies in 2008, and even Uncharted had to be patched with trophy support later.
I really enjoy Heavely Sword. It's a great action game that, yes, did steal a lot of it's ideas from God of War, but it did add it's own spin on the formula. It's far from a direct copy of Kratos' PS2 exploits. PS3 owners who loved action games probably had a great 2007, God of War II hit on the PS2 in March 2007, Ninja Gaiden Sigma came out in July of 2007, and Heavenly Sword hit in September 2007. Heavenly Sword was a great release, even if it was unfairly judged as not just a GoW clone, but also given some backlash in the fanboy flame wars of the day as not a killer app. While yes, there probably weren't a lot of people willing to plop down $600 for a PS3 just to play Heavenly Sword, It's still a great game. It's short length may have made it a great rental over a great buy at the time, but it's worth picking up still.
An of course, the developers of Heavenly Sword, Ninja Theory, would later go on to make Enslaved: Odyssey to the West (another great game that was overlooked in it's time), and the Hellblade games which they are best known for.

My apologies that it looks so crummy, I had to run it through handbrake because Youtube's processing kept messing up the raw file. I had to upload this a couple of times because the processing on Youtube's end kept messing it up.

-Make sure there isn't a game disc in the system, and hit the power button on your PS2 (this works with fat or slim models).
-Wait about 10 seconds for the system to boot up into the browser.
-After waiting 10 or so seconds, hit: Down, X, Down, Down, Down, X, Right, X. If done properly, after a couple of seconds, the display should pop onto your screen.

I am using the Avermedia TV Box to capture this footage over S-Video quality, because you really notice the difference on standard definition signals, and CRT. It impressive difference the smoothing makes is best seen on a CRT, and HD videos don't do it justice. To see my video on the Avermedia TV Box 5 go here: youtu.be/RHqghRBnyVI
The Texture smoothing feature on the PS2 is using the PS2's hardware to turn on bilinear filtering in PS1 games, a feature the PS1 lacked. Sometimes there is a drastic difference in visuals, while other times it doesn't make a huge difference, depending on the game. It doesn't fix the warping issues in the games, but can clean up some pixelated, ugly textures.
#vagrantstory #ps2 #ps1 #retrogaming
The Retrotink 2X Pro is running 480i through component cables and converts 480i to 480p. The Portta is running 480p through the same component cables and upscaling it to 1080p. The footage was captured through an Elgato HD60s and OBS. I capture at 1080p, and then upscale to 4K in my editing software.
If I do another comparison of these two in the future, I'll probably use a more colorful game for more clear results.
My Portta Use-case is mostly for progressive scan Wii and Gamecube games, but the Retrotink does come in handy for those games on both that don't support progressive scan output.
NOTE: Forgive my newbie playing of this game. The only version of RE4 I own is the Wii version. I've had absolutely zero interest in ever owning it on the PS2 or Gamecube, or in general. I figured that if I'm going to finally pick the game up, I may as well get the most interesting version of the game to play.
#retrotink #portta #re4 #wii #residentevil4
This isn't my best run in Mega Man, but I had to choose a 2D game I don't completely suck at, so I chose the original Mega Man. For the RetroTink 2X Pro, I am using the official Sony Component Cables. The Retrotink is outputting 480p over Component. The Hyperkin Cables are outputting either Composite or RGB at 720p.
I played the Hyperkin footage first, so that means I played the Retrotink footage a little better and faster, so I had to make some cuts here and there to keep the footage as close together as possible.
#retrotink #hyperkin #megaman #ps2
If you're looking for a good budget option, the Hyperkin cable still works great. I know there are a ton of visual snobs out there in the "retro gaming scene," but screw them. The Hyperkin cable is the budget king, and the Portta does a great job if you want to upscale a progressive signal but don't want to break the bank either. The Portta doesn't handle resolution changes the best; the Hyperkin cable isn't scared of 240p and handles it perfectly fine.
The Portta doesn't like the 50Hz PAL signal, though, and I've heard mixed things as to whether or not the Hyperkin cable likes PAL signals either. Perhaps someone can clarify whether it works well on 50Hz or not. I have no way of testing it myself.
#shadowofthecolossus #hyperkin #portta #upscaling
The Developer, Spark Unlimited would later go on to make Turning Point: Fall of Liberty, and Legendary- The Box.
NOTE: I spliced in a little bit of my old playthrough footage for this review. I was gonna capture all new footage of the game, but couldn't find my old save where I had a completed game, so I just used some old footage of the playthrough I posted. I've played through this game multiple times over the years.
#callofduty #FinestHour #ps2
For capturing footage, the Portta has issues with Elgato capture cards where, if the footage isn't progressive scan, the Elgato records the scan lines and looks terrible. There is a way to deinterlace with the HD60s while recording in OBS. So instead of using my Elgato HD60s to capture this footage, I swapped to my EVGA XR1 Lite.
I specifically bought the Portta (which upscales the games to 1080p) for the purpose of recording Wii footage. I had an old component-to-HDMI adapter, but it started giving me sound clipping issues, and it stopped upscaling non-progressive-scan games properly. The Portta is a cheap solution that works better than the other one I had.
The Hyperkin cable only upscales to 720p, and the reds look a little washed out on it. Some people also complain that it crushes the blacks (I did brighten the footage a little while capturing this footage), and it seems to have a bit of a motion blur filter. However, I think for the 3D games, a little motion blur on PS2 and N64 games looks better. It reminds me of playing on a tube TV, and you can pick up on some of the special effects that used the blurriness of a CRT TV that you miss on modern TVs.
For upscaling just to play on your TV, both the Portta and Hyperkin cable work great. They look both clear and blurry at the same time. It's hard to explain. However, PAL gamers should stay away from the Portta for upscaling over consoles because it upscales to 1080p at 60Hz and doesn't handle 50Hz well. The Portta also doesn't handle 240p, so any PS2 owners wondering if they can play PS1 games, Ico, or Ring of Red, the answer is no. The Hyperkin cable goes through the composite signal, as opposed to the component signal like the Portta does, and it handles 240p like a champ. It can be used on both a PS1 and PS2, so you can play PS1 games on your PS2 with it, no problem.
For capturing footage, each product has its place. For upscaling progressive scan Wii and GameCube games (through the Wii), the Portta works great. For capturing PS2 and N64 (if you buy the N64 Hyperkin cable), I'm still a big fan of the Hyperkin cable. Both are budget king upscalers depending on what you need them for.

Or the remastered version of that review here: youtu.be/wpQZ8Ss2C5k
I'm just using the Retrotink 2X Pro to upscale this footage. I should have used the Hyperkin Cable because the 2X pro shows some visual glitches. Ah well.
It's also a well-made open-world game. I think that Arkham City is more of the fan favorite, but Arkham Knight is still a great game in the series. The only Arkham game I haven't played is Origins, but the three main games are all excellent.
#batmanarkhamknight #batman #pcgaming #steam
As of writing this description, the game is currently on sale for 99 cents, but normally goes for $9.99 which is still really cheap. It's definitely worth playing if you haven't already, and even modern low-range systems should be able to run this game.
It's a great game, and the only complaint I can wage against it is: there seems to be an engine cap of 32 frames per second. I'm good with 32 fps, especially when playing with a controller. Some people might not be. I'm sure there is a way to turn the engine cap off though. I just haven't looked for it because I'm good with how it plays stock.

For a processor that is now 11 years old, the Core i7 4790 is still running newly released PC games. It is close to being obsolete now, but for me, this is a legendary processor that you can still game at 1080p on 11 years after it's release. This is why I think a lot of tech youtubers are completely out of touch with their audiences. Yes, owning a 9800x3D would be cool, but I've seen some channels touting it as if no other processor can even run games. If you're a budget PC gamer who is looking at a newer budget processor, but you have large tech channels and reddit garbage-takes in you head, here is an 11 year old 4-core, 8-thread processor running a newly released PC game. Your newer budget i5's, i3's, and Ryzen Processors will game run games just fine.
the 4790 does bottleneck the 2060, as you can see, however, you can find budget 7th-12 gen i3's or i5's that will run this game even better when paired with this card. PC gaming doesn't have to be expensive, and you don't need an x3D processor to get good performance.

This footage is from the challenge mode which is unlocked once you beat the game. This explains why I have all the weapons at the beginning of the game, and why the enemies are bullet-sponge tanks to dispatch.
For this footage I have Super Sampling and boost mode on. Sure, the PS4 version doesn't look or run the best, even on the Pro, but overall, I can say that now that I have played Cyberpunk, from a gameplay and design standpoint, I still, genuinely, have no interest in picking up the PC version. I know that PS4 version is far from the best example of this game when it comes to how it looks and runs, however, getting through the first couple of hours of this game is excruciatingly slow. Tons of narrative, not much gameplay. Developers need to figure out better ways to build a background story within the gameplay instead of laying on narrative so heavy that by the time I got to the first mission in the game, I had already lost interest in playing.
I was yelling at the game, "Just let me play the ****ing game!!!!." I'm at the point where I'm just skipping the narrative parts it will let me skip, because I just want to get out and explore the open world. I will keep playing it casually in hope that it turns the corner, and I get to actually enjoy the interactive elements. However, I'm already insanely bored with this game. Laying on the narrative too thickly early on in the game has made me lose interest in playing further.
#cyberpunk2077 #ps4pro #gameplaysample
It's a game I liked when I first played it, but not one I found myself playing through multiple times until much later. As I got the hang of fast weapon switching, binding the weapons to specific keys, them more I came to really love the intense combat presented in the game. Honestly, this is a great FPS game....once you get past the slow start and some of the vehicle scenes. The combat near the end of the game is some of the most intense combat in any FPS game outside of the new Doom series.
NOTE: The footage from Radeon Relive has been a bit choppy lately, and I'm not sure why. I am also using Radeon Super Resolution to upscale 1080p to 4K in this footage, and I changed the config file for widescreen and 1080p output.

The single player game has you competing against other aliens in each map with different objectives depending on the level. For the most part, the objectives are usually collect 500 coins in the allotted time, or collect more coins than your rival in the allotted time. Each level has it's own unique theme (including a level based in Raccoon City where you try to steal coins from Nemesis) with it's own unique dangers. While disguised as a human, if you take two hits, you lose your disguise, and a number of your coins that your opponent can then take. Once you lose your disguise, you have to make your way to moving UFO points that transform you into whatever human form you chose by abducting one of the inhabitants of the map. Depending on who you abduct, depends on what items you receive in you new disguise. You can see what items each character has before you abduct them. When in human form, you can abduct one other person so you have one on deck for when you run out of items for your current disguise.
Like I said, it's a wacky concept, but it works. The only real complaint I have with the game is the really short length of the single player story mode. My first time through on normal took me 63 minutes to beat all the levels. However, beating it unlocks an added trials mode, and the coop mode (there is also a 2 player vs mode which is unlocked from the beginning) so you can play with a friend, or an A.I. bot. If you have another person to play with, this extends the life of the game a lot. If you're a solo gamer, this isn't going to be a game that holds your attention for very long. Overall, I'd say it's a game that may not keep you playing for a long time, but it's still fun enough to pop in and play it for a few rounds here or there on occasion, so it doesn't have a ton of replay value up front, but I can see myself putting a lot of combined hours on it over a long period of time.
#ps2 #undertheskin #underratedgems
There are three modes of play: Story, quick puzzle, and versus for two player battles against a friend. The story mode is incredibly short with a whopping four levels to play. You can easily beat this game in one sitting. My only big complaint is the game forces you to play the training mode before story mode, or versus modes are unlocked. I hate forced training modes. In the story mode, you have to defeat four evil monsters, each with their own levels. Two of the levels in the story mode took me over 20 minutes to beat with failures and restarts, the other two took ten to twelve minutes to beat. The entire thing can be beaten in an hour or less.
That being said, the gameplay is so addictive, I found myself losing hours upon hours coming back to play the puzzle mode, which the endless trial mode where the game lasts as long as the player can survive. I love relaxing and enjoying a good puzzle game, and the endless replayability of the puzzle mode alone makes up for the brevity of the single player mode.Another mode that will keep you coming back is the verses mode. If you have at least one other friend to play this game with, the verses mode also brings endless replay value. In the verses mode, using the bingo at the bottom of the screen can be used to send attacks at your opponent. If you have friends versed in the gameplay to play Aqua Aqua against, this would be an excellent party game, giving you countless hours of trash talking fun.I found that using the d-pad in the game was the most accurate way to play. The analog controls feel a bit slippery. I found, for those small motions to seed an upper or landscape piece in the exact right spot to make a perfect connection to the piece next to it, tapping the d-pad was worlds more accurate to use. Everything else with the controls is as simple as pressing a button to turn each piece in the air before it lands or to execute a fast-fall when you have the piece where you want it.The Bottom Line: Aqua Aqua joins the likes of Bombastic on the list of the most underrated puzzle game sequels on the PS2, and is one of the most addictive, underrated offerings in the PS2's library of mostly overlooked, underrated puzzle game offerings. There is a serious lack of love for PS2 puzzle games, people, and Aqua Aqua is the Wetrix sequel that I would wager a guess most fans of the original never even knew existed. Having not played the original I cannot comment on how it stacks up to Wetrix, but I can say: this is an absurdly addictive game that is both simple, yet complicated. Once you learn the mechanics, Aqua Aqua will prompt you to give it hours upon hours of your time. The game is still sitting around the $10 mark WITH shipping as of this video, and for $10, outside of Bombastic which is the unappreciated sequel to Devil Dice, you won't find a better puzzle game on the PS2 at that price

This isn't a benchmark per-say, but when upscaling with Insomniac Games Temporal Injection (IGTI) at ultra quality, I can lock v-sync on at 60 hertz. Yes, I am playing with V-sync on for this footage as I have had sound sync issues when I try and record benchmark runs. The TV I use as my computer monitor runs at 4K 60, so I record the footage at 4K 60 to keep the sound synced up to the footage which is encoded at 60 fps.
If you're looking for 60 fps gameplay, when at native 4K, the framerate falls just below 60. 50-55fps on average. With a radeon card, you can use FSR, IGTI, or Xess to upscale and lock it at 60. I, personally find that IGTI at ultra quality looks the best for my tastes, so that's what I use while playing the game.

I just got this game today, and there is an error that says "An administrator has blocked you from running this app." when you try to run the setup off the disk. A huge thank you to Reddit user AIgavemethisusername for posting this fix.

Also, if you need help saving your settings, go into your PC's Documents\My Games\Unreal Tournament 3\UTGame\SaveData and change the first part of the default Player.ue3profile to [your desired username].ue3profile in order to get it to save your key bindings and settings, otherwise the game will go back to the default setting each time.

Fraps is a legendary program to me, but it's a system resource hog when recording video. Great program, but thank goodness for Nvidia Shadowplay, OBS, and AMD Relive

I'm not a benchmark channel, but I like playing around with bench-marking on occasion. For my personal setting on this game, I turn on v-sync and FSR to save power and wear and tear on my GPU and CPU. I see no point in unlocking the framerate for single player games, personally.
Current RIG:
Windows 10 Pro
Ryzen 7 7700 (non X)
Gigabyte Gaming OC RX 7900 GRE 16 gb Vram
32gb Corsair Vengeance DDR5 running at 6000 mhz
MSI B650 Gaming Plus WiFi Gaming Motherboard
Corsair RM850e PSU
Western Digital 2TB SN850P NVMe M.2 SSD
2TB WD Blue Sata SSD
1tb WD Blue Sata SSD (Reused from my old rig)
And I've got a Blue Ray Drive and a DVD Drive because I do no like "You will own nothing and be happy." Plus, I still have old games on CD and DVD I like to install like F.E.A.R., Quake 4, Win Quake, Unreal, and etc.

My personal preferences when I play this game from now on, I will turn upscaling on, and V-Sync to cap the framerate at 60 fps. I know that V-Sync is a naughty word in PC gaming, but for a single-player game, I see no reason to put the extra wear and tear on my GPU and CPU. I'm OK with V-sync, personally. This isn't a competitive online FPS game, and I'd prefer to save the power usage and wear and tear on my new rig. It's fun to uncap the framerate and turn on MSI Afterburner to see how well your system does on occasion though.
NOTE: there was some stuttering later in the video, but I'm not sure if it's because of the card, or because Windows was downloading updates in the background. Windows being windows.

NOTE: There is a glitch in this game where, if you use a Logitech mouse, even a modern wireless Logitech mouse, it will kill your framerate in the game. I know there was a fan patch going around that reportedly fixes this, however, I just swap my mouse to an old HP mouse I own when playing this game. I don't know how or why this is a thing, however, using a Logitech mouse will tank your framerate in this game for no good reason.

For the Xr1 Lite, HDCP recording is blocked (PS3 games can't be recorded because of the HDCP lock), however if you go to EVGA's website you can download the HDCP Control application for the XR1 Lite in order to shut off the HDCP block. You can also update the firmware.
Go here: evga.com/support/download
-Click on the "Other Products" Tab
-On the "Category" tab click "Capture Device"
-Click on the "Type" tab, and at the bottom there should be an option that says "HDCP Control for XR1 Lite"
-Download the software for your Windows OS, and run it. Windows will give an error message, run the program anyway.
-When you run the program, uncheck the box that says "HDMI Rx HDCP KEY" save and exit, and it should display PS3 and PS4 games now in OBS for you.
Overall, I would say there isn't much of a quality difference between the two cards, which means the XR1 Lite was an excellent budget option, however, I have seen used HD60s cards on Ebay for cheaper as of late. The HD60s has been replaced by the HD60x by elgato, but for the used price, the HD60s is a great card, that brightens better than the XR1 Lite does.
For PS4 games the blacks look great on the XR1 lite, but for older games like say, playing tomb raider on the PS3, the footage comes out super dark, even when adjusting the brightness in OBS. Honestly both are great cards. The XR1 Lite is a great option if you're looking for a more budget-friendly card, you've just got to update it and shut off the HDCP Block with a separate program. Once you do that, you will still occasionally have to unplug it from your system, and plug it back in and restart OBS on occasion.

Honestly, they are basically the same game. They are the same visually, and design wise, the only big difference it the flash light. I really wish they would have given the option to play BFG edition with the flash light instead of just forcing the change on players. I do like BFG Edition, it has a ton of content, however, I will always love Vanilla Doom 3 more. I mean, I spent $1,000 on a PC back in the day just to play it. Yes, I know, the Xbox version was a thing, but I wanted the PC version. The Xbox version is still an awesome port in it's own right. I love Doom 3, and I always will.

As for this comparison, the PS3 version is a solid port that has all the extra content of the PC version, but there was never a question that the PC version is the better running, looking, and playing version. I'm running the PS3 version off hardware and it's running at 720p, whereas the PC version is running at 1080p. I upscaled the footage in my editing software. The PS3 version is a lot brighter than the PC version which is still a lot brighter than the original Doom 3.
BFG is good, but I will always recommend the original Doom 3 on the PC and original Xbox over it. I am both a huge Doom 3 fan and a Doom 3 apologist as well.
