Gold Cup Finals West 1999 Black Mountain BMX Shannon Gillette 2022-12-29 | Proof the hard work and perseverance pay off. After many years of trying to win the Gold Cup #1 plate, I was able to put it together in 1999. Gold Cup West Champ. I had won NAG and national plates, and many District #1 in many different states growing up. But this one always alluded me. It was a one shot race, not the points series like it is today. Over the years the Gold Cup has evolved. My first Gold Final was back in 1984 in Las Vegas. Back then there was only one plate given and it was a #1. No such thing as a Gold Cup 2 and 3 in my days. Also to qualify to that one and only Gold Cup final you had to make a main at a national. Then it evolved into an East and West finals, then they added a central region. Once ABA acquired the NBL in 2011, the 3 regions were then split in half through the middle of the USA to now make 6 regions and we then added a #2 and #3 plate to the mix. Anyway, that’s the brief history on the Gold Cup Finals. My old buddy Bruce Ritter up in Utah sent me this video from 1999 Gold Gold Finals West. I hadn’t seen it before so it was great to see it. Funny part is after this main event.
