Climbing my First V10 berlagawesome 2021-06-29 | Hey guys I'm still alive! This is not a machine (not sure if I'll ever make a serious one again) but still a very cool part of my life -- I achieved one of my all-time climbing goals. Avid climbers might say this is pretty soft for a V10, and I very much agree. My gym has been setting softer than usual lately, and it only took about two full sessions to put down. It's still nice to be part of the double digit club!

The LONGEST Pong Shot EVER! Chain Reaction | Quarantine Day 63 berlagawesome 2020-05-18 | I took the classic pong shot to the next level! At 95 seconds, this is the longest ping pong trickshot on YouTube! The ball ends up going all around my house. This was made in about 2 weeks and built up part by part, starting with the ideas on the 6 foot table in the living room. This machine had over 100 fails, but 80-90% of them were in the beginning before the ball entered the living room, something I couldn't fix because I needed to maintain a way for all my family to get around the house without stepping over random things on the floor. Because of this, reset times were short and I only needed about 3 days to get everything to work, despite only filming during the times of day when lighting conditions were reasonable. I worked hard on this and I think it's one of my best projects so it would be great to get a lot of people to see this trickshot -- maybe even @dudeperfect?The next video you'll see from me is hopefully a closeup of Reactica, if it ends up happening this year. 31 UNBELIEVABLE Domino Tricks! (10,000 Dominoes, Quarantine Edition) berlagawesome 2020-04-26 | With a mandatory public health stay-at-home order comes the opportunity to make this domino video! I’ve been doing this since my college sent everyone home a little over a month ago, and I’m really happy with the ideas I was able to make despite being gone for a while. I specifically realized the potential of dominoes and scotch tape mixed together. There are so many ways to make dominoes act in a way you wouldn’t expect, and I tried to exploit that as much as I could. This might look more like a chain reaction machine than a domino video with all the other objects involved, but I’m a chain reaction builder primarily, after all. I think this can be a whole genre of tricks, perhaps – domino tricks that look like chain reactions. Something I noticed with this video is that I had much fewer fails than usual! A lot of clips worked on the first try, and the vast majority took 4 tries or less. Taping dominoes seriously increases their reliability!I’m excited to do more with this channel now that I have the chance, there may be more things than just chain reactions on here. The Useless Chain Reaction (w/ Flash Domino) berlagawesome 2020-01-07 | Ever seen The Useless Box? Well, we made it into a useless machine. This was a nice collab I did with @flashdomino over winter break and I'm very happy with how it turned out. For once, we built without much of a rush for two days, and got the machine to work with time to spare. The whole thing took 24 tries. I'm always glad to come back home and build a machine, and especially collaborate with other builders. I probably will not be able to build anything before Reactica this year, but I am excited for the event in August!

I was thrilled to be invited to be on the Reactica team for the third year in a row! Here's my installment this year. It was extremely fun building here, and I believe this is my best Reactica machine yet!In the live falldown, unfortunately this machine had a fail when the falling basket didn't have enough force to push the cup over the edge and trip the k'nex lever. It was sadly my first ever Reactica machine fail -- and one that I thought I fixed before. I learned a lot from this event, and I hope to continue building and learn more. I know I haven't been posting in a while, but it was incredibly fun to be doing this for 16 hours a day (really!) and it was surely one of the highlights of my summer. THE TWO STORY CHAIN REACTION! berlagawesome 2018-07-14 | My parents were away for a bit over a week so this is what I managed to do during that time! This is the most spacious machine I have ever built, spanning a large part of my house and going through 4 rooms and a staircase. I was not expecting to do his, but was inspired to build a big machine after CDM and I hope I accomplished that :)Cool thing about this machine: I specifically made connections to allow myself to easily walk around the house. For example, I could walk through the space where both ping pong ball launches occurred. This forced me to make very long and fast machine elements, such as the tape measure, and created a challenge for me to follow the machine with my camera. I think I managed to do it well. During the building process, Flash Domino came over to help finish and film the machine while I was on a time crunch, so HUGE thanks to him!Unfortunately there is a slight early trigger at the end of the machine -- the folder flipped open 2 steps early -- but it was 12:30 on the last night I could possibly be building and I was not about to reset everything because of it. This may well be my last big video before I leave to college in mid-August. I'll be talking a bit about my future of my channel soon.

Reactica was the California chain reaction record, and an annual gathering of 7 top chain reaction builders. I'm very happy to have had the full building time this year (I was already off school, unlike last year), and I could make an impressive machine of my style that worked perfectly in the falldown! (100% CDM success rate yeeee) Building at Reactica was an amazing experience once again, and it could not have been done without the lead builder and organizer, Flash Domino. It was easy to build with and kept the machine more organized. However, I'll stick to using k'nex at live events and building with my own style for other videos. My Wowmino set was extremely versatile and I could easily think of tricks with the variety of individual toys that I had. Knowing how useful these things are, I really want the kickstarter project to succeed, and they need all your help!Some of these tricks had the least amount of fails I've had building pretty complex screenlink clips. Any fails were very easy to reset (compared to other domino screenlinks) and allowed me to create this entire video in under 2 weeks. In essence, as a machine builder, Wowminos took any tediousness out of building domino projects for me and I loved it. This one, luckily, was filmed entirely and set up well. For this setup, we only had about 6 hours to do everything, so our schedule was packed and we had to do a lot of planning beforehand. (It also is a slightly smaller setup than usual because of that). Still, our audience of about 50 people enjoyed watching it and loved the various chain reaction sections of the setup.We decided to make a 4-part setup, each part showing a number 2, 0, 1, or 8. The 2 was a classic chain reaction machine, the 0 was a setup of balls and tracks, the 1 was purely dominoes, and the 8 was pure kinetic art. We had a falldown with one unfortunate break in the 0 (my fault, tested beforehand and tape shifted a little bit), but everything else fell without a problem. Enjoy the video! This one was especially hard to make because it goes up the stairs, against gravity. Fun fact: I had to make the whole thing without hot glue! It was the result of 4 days of work, most of which were spent eliminating possible fails because of how crudely I built it. I was still really happy with the way it turned out in the end, and my collabs with Hevesh5 turn out to be two of my most amazing videos! This was my chain reaction section. This was a very rushed period of building, as most of the builders were on Spring break while I came in every day after school, resulting in me having a bit less than half the building time as the rest of the team. However, I feel like I built some nice tricks and I got the machine to work consistently - it was set off perfectly during the live falldown. Building at CDM was a great experience and a great diversion from the stresses of junior year, and I was very happy to be there. The event was an extreme success, and younger children interested in STEM really enjoyed watching us build, and especially the machines and dominoes fall down. Best of Alex 2016 berlagawesome 2017-01-29 | My best ideas, tricks, and chain reactions from 2016. It's been a great year, and I'm extremely happy to have gone from under 1,000 subscribers to almost 4,000. I would say I found exactly what I'm good at and what I can improve on this year, and it's been a great experience perfecting my chain reactions. Currently, I'm in a horrible state for building with 8 different commitments other than building that I have to succeed in, and as a result I have gotten absolutely no work done on machine 22 since three weeks ago. I will likely make it into a smaller machine so I can move onto other projects :( sorry. However once Junior year is done I'll be much more free and will work on my machines more often, producing the best possible content for you guys.

Machine 22: Update 1 berlagawesome 2016-12-05 | The first of a series of unscripted, crudely edited videos explaining what I'm building during the little free time I have. I'm excited to get this 200-step machine to its full potential and it's definitely going to be my best one yet! Stay tuned. Chain Reactions with MAGNETS! Together, TheInvention11 and I made a screenlink of 12 clips that feature tricks that wouldn’t be possible without magnets. TheInvention11 is my favorite builder, and I’ve been wanting to collab with him for a while, and him winning my contest gave us the perfect opportunity to do so. Filming this machine went smoothly, and I am happy with the way I got all my clips to work, and I think TheInvention11 can say the same about himself. There’s something about magnets that makes things more reliable and I’m going to be using them a lot more often from now on. TheInvention11 made all of his clips in September, while mine were made sporadically between October and November. Together, we made 12 magnet tricks, and each of them involves a different way to attract and repel magnets. We also used different types of magnets - mine were generally stronger while TheInvention11’s were weaker. The Water Bottle Flip Machine! berlagawesome 2016-11-05 | This is a mini-machine dedicated to flipping a water bottle. It all started when I was experimenting for my magnets screenlink and got the effect of the water bottle flip to work consistently. Then I decided to build a few machine elements around it with other water bottles, and it was done! The whole process took a bit less than 3 hours. I woke up with a fever of 103 degrees and had to come in to finish the machine, while Flashdomino had a flat tire on his way to the library. In addition, the main camera that was filming the dominoes ran out of storage and couldn't film the setup, so all we have are second angles that don't show much of the setup. Chain Reactions with WATER! berlagawesome 2016-09-03 | Machine builders hate when materials get wet. And this is exactly what I did on purpose for this video. This was my most frustrating and tiring video I've done. These clips were much harder to build than one would expect, as things move around extremely easily underwater, not to mention the fact that tape just doesn't work. Outside, wind knocks things down, so you get to film about one take for every three or four resets. And an above average number of fails. All this has led me to decide that I will most likely never build tricks underwater again.Nevertheless, here you guys go. A made entirely of chain reactions featuring some of the properties of water and how it moves itself and other objects around. In this video, you will see the effects of floating, sinking, adhesion and cohesion, waves, and free movement. Role Reversal 2: 4,000 Dominoes berlagawesome 2016-08-20 | One year after our first role reversal, Flashdomino and I decided to do it again. I built dominoes, and Flashdomino built machines. And both of our skills improved by far. In roughly the same amount of time, we managed to set up a machine that is much more complicated, worked on the first try, and having almost twice as many dominoes as last time. Even though Flashdomino is not a machine builder, his skills impress me. He manages to make the machine easy to see, but also complicated as well.
