Bell X RSD Mulholland Bullitt & The Desmo Fighter RolandSandsDesign 2022-08-30 | This Desmo project is a special one, as all Ducati builds are, but it’s also one that brings some anxiety along with it, as carving up a second Duscati Desmosedici D16RR may push the Ducatisti purists over the edge. Only 1500 Desmosedicis were created globally and this one is a fine specimen. It is number 0245/1500 and has 4,158 miles on the clock. It’s a rider no doubt and that is what its owner intends to do even more of with the newly modified machine. Being a surgeon, he’s a handy and intelligent guy and when his age started creeping up past his skeletal ability to ride a superbike, rather than sell the Desmo, he chose to do exactly as he wanted and build a Desmo Streetfighter with some more comfortable ergonomics. That’s where we come in. The long in the tooth Harley Bagger traditionally viewed as a long haul two up machine destined for a trip to Sturgis has blossomed into a machine capable of far more. Lean angle, horsepower, stopping power and agility have come together in a cohesive package transforming yesterday’s road couch into a machine that’s both fun to ride and still capable of packing luggage and a passenger in comfort. Gone are the 90 mph wobbles that have been a main stay of the bagger rider for years. The Story of the Puffer: 1946 Indian Chief RolandSandsDesign 2022-02-17 | Perry Sands - Roland's dad, built the #peyotepuffer when he was 19 years old. It started life as a 1946 #IndianChief. He left the frame geometry stock, molded a mustang tank onto the frame and chopped off everything that wasn’t necessary. After polishing and chroming the motor and anything else he could, he painted it a cotton candy pink metal flake in his parents garage and simultaneously over sprayed everything in the garage including dads Oldsmobile. That was the last time Perry built a bike at his parents house but the first of many bikes he would build. Shortly after the bike made its debut, Perry lost control of it going about 80mph on PCH. The Puffer was smoked and eventually got parted out. 50 years later Perry was reunited with the original frame. RSD Indian Chief El Camino RolandSandsDesign 2021-12-09 | In order to keep growing, one has to move out of their comfort zone. We know Indian Thunder Stroke engines, we’ve been building around them for years, but for this project we wanted to use as many stock vintage 1946-48 components as we could. It was a new type of challenge, not one of high performance and shorter lap times, but one of heritage and history. We located an original fork and crashed, bent, original 1946 Chief frame from our good friend Mike at Kiwi Indian, a perfect donor for the project. These vintage stock frames have castings for the neck and frame joints that were connected with straight steel tubes, tack welded and brazed together, which meant we were able to grind off the tack welds then heat up the joints to melt the brazing and easily disassemble the stock frame. The modern engine is much larger, so we modified the stock castings a bit to get the correct angles needed. Some of the stock joints wouldn’t work due to the angle changes and different motor mount locations so new chromoly versions were made and aged to match. We then fabricated a swingarm and added suspension, replacing the original plunger system with this that would radically improve handling. In the end, the bike represents the best of two very different worlds. It’s custom, it’s creative, it looks like a WWII-era Indian, but it’s reliable, starts with a button, and it’s a hell of a lot of fun to ride.View the build - rolandsands.com/el-camino
