Revisiting Pokemon Scarlet and Violets 7 Star Raids with Safari Ball

Collector Togami 2024-02-29 | I had a gut feeling this entire time that we'd be able to acquire the Sport and Safari Balls in the DLC, as was the case during Sword and Shield. If you have a save file with a given Poke Portal news, and you do not go online with it, the Tera Raid(s) and/or outbreak(s) will continue to happen indefinitely. As such, I made pre-emptive save backups for each and every Tera Raid Battle before the Indigo Disk DLC.

With that in mind, I spent a long amount of time strategizing over each and every raid, looking back on tactics and how to best handle things, and decided on the following additional notes.

1. I have two Switch systems, and cannot go online due to the aforementioned ex post facto nature of this gauntlet. If two systems are used, I was playing both in parallel.
2. Pokemon HOME, Teal Mask, and/or Indigo Disk weren't out at the time of some of these fights happening. Thus, I have more than just the ability to use Sport and Safari Ball-- I'm able to use whatever combination of species and TMs I so desire, something that wasn't present before! One example of this is using Serperior against Pikachu, which was not originally a thing.
3. I did the fights in Sport Ball also, but decided to just record the Safari Ball sets for the sake of consistency.
4. The Scale value of these pokemon is almost always hard coded to 128, meaning they will be at the exact middle value of how big or small a Pokemon can be. There are two exceptions, however-- Regular (not Hisui) Typhlosion is always at the minimum value, and Pikachu has a 1 in 16 chance according to Anubis of being max Scale. I revisited the Pikachu raids twice more offscreen to ensure I walked away with the mark qualifying ones.
5. I'd like to give a special thank you to @ShadowMario3 for not only posting videos at the time of when we did all these raids, but for also helping me strategize and granting me notes on the methods we used. While I didn't use the exact same strategies (see note 2 for example), his overall thought process and comprehensive documentation were critical to getting this project done.

Additional thanks go out to Unknown Warrior for his confirmation that the general concept of ex post facto Safari/Sport rareball Unrivaled Mightiest Mark 7 star raids is even possible, and Randomdice101, Somnus, and Stepbro for strategizing, both when the raids were current, and when I bugged you guys after it all for the sake of this hellish challenge.

Duoing Mewtwo 7-Star Raid for Safari Ball Pokemon Scarlet Violet

Collector Togami 2024-02-29 | I had a gut feeling this entire time that we'd be able to acquire the Sport and Safari Balls in the DLC, as was the case during Sword and Shield. Mewtwo, however, is a particularly tough case. Not only does it have a 50x HP bar, it also tries to Resto Chesto it off after you break its shield, meaning that you cannot Taunt to stop it. The only way to halt this is to attempt anime style logic and circumvent Mewtwo's protection from status moves by attacking the field itself, that is to say, cast a Terrain move that stops it from being able to use Rest.

Under normal circumstances, this fight is already difficult even with four Mews. I have to face this offline due to the aforementioned after the fact save backup, and so I have only my two Switch systems. After a long time spent ruminating, I had a realization that secured the victory.

What do we have that we didn't at the time? TMs. There are TMs that were added in Indigo Disk that were not usable at the time of the raid originally, and so I pored over each and every one. At first, I thought the move Skitter Smack, which is a physical version of Struggle Bug, would be the key to victory, but its 90 base accuracy and lower PP made it far too unreliable. Psych Up, however, added a major change to the strategizing which did lead to winning.

Psych Up allows the user to copy any and all buffs and debuffs held by its target. In this case, I had one Mew serve as the DPS Swords Dance user, and the second Mew would have Psych Up. In other words, there are three turns:

1. Swords Dance + free move
2. Swords Dance + free move
3. Swords Dance + Psych Up on the swords Dancer
Free move, in this context, can be either Life Dew, or further Struggle Bug to lower Mewtwo's special attack further. And that was what turned the tide around allowing me to win.

Mews were Adamant natured, with 252 in HP and special attack, 4 in special defense, with the moves Struggle Big, Leech Life, Life Dew / Misty Terrain, and Psych Up / Swords Dance. Mew does gain a significant set of buffs for the duration of the fight, in addition to the Mightiest Mark if successful. While it isn't necessary to use Mew in the battle, I highly suggest doing so because Mewtwo hits like a truck, and the overall move versatility is handy.

I'd also like to give a big thank you to Unknown Warrior for confirming with his own saves that this is indeed possible, to obtain previous Tera Raids after the fact in Sport and Safari Ball. Thanks to that, I was able to perform a gauntlet and get through it all. The Unrivaled 7 star raid battles are incredible content, and I wish they weren't so timegated. I am thankful there is a way around it if you planned ahead as I did, but still. They are quite an engaging part of the mainline, especially in a game that is otherwise fairly lacking in postgame content.

LEVEL 100 SHINY RARE MARK KITAKAMI MAGIKARP Pokemon Scarlet Violet DLC

Collector Togami 2024-01-26 | I have been dealing with a lot of issues lately and not posting as much, but I am still very much alive and kicking. And this is the ultimate proof I am still around.

As is the case with the Resort Area in Sinnoh, and the Nature Preserve in Unova, you can catch a level 100 naturally occurring Magikarp. I wanted something more than that though. Something stronger, bigger, better.

So I went for a shiny lv100 Karp. As you can see from the end of the video it took me 30 previous tries. And then I finally got it. Between the sandwich and the mark charm buffs, I somehow lucked out and got the Rare Mark of all things which I honestly still cannot believe aligned like this. It finally happened. The REAL Hidden Treasure of Area Zero isn't the Teal Mask, nor Terapagos-- it is this sneaky Magikarp hidden away in the corner of Kitakami. Jesus. I'm shaking IRL typing this.

The Quest To Get Hard (Mode) in Ogre Ousting (And A Shiny Munchlax!) Pokemon Scarlet Violet DLC

Collector Togami 2023-09-18 | Over the last few days, my friends and I have been sitting together trying to get hard... mode cleared in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet's DLC's Teal Mask's minigame, Ogre Oustin'. Get your mind out of the gutter.

This is a tough minigame in that you need to get a ludircous amount of berries by popping balloons while also defending the turn in point. This is likely undoable solo, at least for now so close to launch.

We decided to use the strategy where we all spread out to one corner of the map and then come back with the berries. I was designated the guard, meaning I had to repeatedly press the R button to drive away Munchlax and other threats to our stash.

Good thing this new Switch controller with turbo came in the mail-- made life a lot easier for us.

If you win this minigame, you will gain a surefire shiny Munchlax with the Crafty Mark (The Opportunist title when thrown out). There are arguably easier ways to get Munchlax shiny, such as breeding (albeit with a large step count), or just plain looking around with a Herba sandwich. Speaking of, you do get Herba Mystica as a prize from this, in addition to the Kitakami Mochis, so it's definitely worthwhile if you get the hang of the minigame. Even Ability Patches are on the list.

I don't know why the developers made this such a fun minigame in a freaking DLC and threw such compelling incentives for us to participate and actually socialize, but they did. And it's been a ride.

A wise, dragon obsessed man once said, "Okay, but why are we in space?" when confronted with a difficult fight. In this case, instead of being in space, the question is, why are they Titans? Herba Mystica is not mentioned at all during the DLC, but for some reason, Okidogi, Monkidori, and Fezandipiti all have Titan form and are quite powerful.

Carmine really does help in this set of battles, and I'm glad she tags along. Despite her Morpeko going up against three Poison types, she still deals a lot of damage. (I wish I knew their typings in advance... but that's another story)

A series of dominoes falls after we beat Kieran again. This causes him to punch the monument at the plaza, and from that impact, the legendary trio of this generation comes out. Okidogi, Monkidori, and Fezandipiti are all formidable enemies, and appear to have become Titans no less! It turns out they weren't the good guys as stated in the lore, and so it's out job to take them down. Carmine is a surprisingly competent Trainer, and does more than her share in the coming battles.

What you get for all your trouble is a flashy variant of your Festival Jinbei, which you get from Carmine's parents early in the story of the DLC. Was it worth it? That's a subjective question. I personally don't like it, the color reminds me too much of the meh green shiny variants some Pokemon get.

Catching Ogerpon Pokemon Scarlet Violet DLC Teal Mask

I'll come clean. This fight was not at all what I expected. I thought Ogerpon would act like a standard Terastalized overworld encounter, in that you lower its health and it loses the Terastalization, and then you can catch it as you would a regular Pokemon. As such, I swapped out my team of prized rare Pokemon for a team of False Swipers I had made to handle most situations.

Unfortunately, most of my team does not have attacking moves outside of False Swipe, which means I was forced to improvise with what I had on hand, leading to a really fun fight. My forethought of capture situations led to a large number of scenarios being covered. When Ogerpon buffs itself by changing masks, I can use Haze to cleanse all buffs. When he goes for Fighting type moves, I have a Ghost type handle it etc.

I do wish Carmine told me now is not the time to try catching way earlier in the battle, as I spent the fight initially handling it as stated above. Not cool, man.

Much to my surprise, the game straight up hands you an item to boost EXP gain on your entire team just like that. Unlike Hassel's Lucky Egg gift in the original story, this key item does not take a held item slot, meaning you are free to use whatever suits your fancy.

All you have to do is win the minigame with the berries in the DLC story, and as you can see from my less than stellar skills at it (which were totally on purpose, totally), you don't need to win the first stage! They still give you the item.

In all seriousness, the level curve is steep in this DLC. You're given the EXP charm easily for a reason, because these fights go from "ha ha why does she have a Poochyena at that high a level to" "Oh god why" super fast.

Carmine had already shown herself to be a capable combatant when she fought alongside you as a better Arven against Titans. It's no surprise, then, to see she can fight. At the same time, I am no slouch, and came with an entire party of rare Pokemon to win. You can read more about my team below if you wish.

Let's start from the end. After a fun, short quest, we are challenged once more to a battle by our new friend Carmine, who has a team in the seventies. I decided to go all in with Thrud, since she opens with a physical attacker and I hold enough bulk to take the hit and retaliate with a Drain Punch. This in turn sets up an entire sweep single handedly.

The ending shows that this is really an introduction to the DLC more than anything. There's a lot of things left unanswered, and I hope we find out with the second part of the DLC later this year.

Final Boss and Ending Fire Emblem Engage Fell Xenologue Ending

Collector Togami 2023-04-05 | Because everyone has predetermined levels and classes, and everyone comes back after every fight, it's hard to have a Gotoh archetype. Instead, the devs gave Alear's sword a plus thirty damage passive to the final boss which I honestly found eye popping.

This fight isn't so bad if you maneuver yourself in such a way that Seadall can make Alear move again immediately after breaking the first HP bar, skipping any mechanics associated afterwards. This allows you to cheese the fight due to the perfect lining up on stats. I almost wonder if this was designed on purpose for such a scenario.

Your skills are retained from your main campain, but your convoy, classes, and unit levels and stats are all predetermined, without exp growth, and go up as you progress in the story. I went with a conservative approach of Hold Out and Lifesphere on Mauvier, Seadall, and Alear, which proved to be more than enough, not even needing to give skills to the other units in my team. And the plan worked!

Overall, this is a way easier fight than Sombron. Just be really careful about the jumps.

Fire Emblem Code of The Black Knights Endgame X The Last Stand (RNG Manipulated)

Collector Togami 2023-03-28 | I've been delving into the world of FE ROM hacks on the side, and recently came across one in particular that caught my eye, called Code of The Black Knights. The sheer number of branches in the story line is amazing, and there is one particular branch I have yet to see uploaded to YouTube.

If you get exiled from Al-Hadar for killing their council member, refuse the peace treaty post time skip, keep the Archbishop alive, accept Kayleth's proposal, and have a slip of the tongue during the subsequent peace counsel, an additional chapter is unlocked where max level promoted units come guns blazing at you. This is the entire might of the continent combined, even your own countrymen.

The continental army waits until right after you kill the literal god being that you summoned, and then turns against you. No matter what you do, this is a fight you are meant to lose. From unmissable instakill siege tomes to making Light Brands deal effective damage against you, and even having Layton, the final boss of another route charging at you, there's no shortage of hurdles you have to face.

Even if you do everything perfectly, Noir, one of your Lords, will have a literal heart attack from dark magic overuse, forcing a cutscene to play after your next action. You can be winning single handedly, but the game will go "naw fam" and roll the ending.

All of this is fun a story, but one thing stands out. The Dancer unit of this game has a skill that allows her to move again that turn with a luck% chance, similar to Thracia 776 movement stars. But here's where it gets extra spicy. You can activate this skill an indefinite number of times and have infinite turns. This is very much doable if you understand the RNG in games like these, which I do. So I used luck manipulation in a tool-assisted superplay, recorded a movie file, and played it back for this. It was an incredible experience to pull off.

ALL Veronica Bond Supports Fire Emblem Engage

Final Superboss Galdera Octopath Traveler II

Collector Togami 2023-03-05 | He's somehow back... after a shoehorned side quest series, we can fight Galdera but he's way tougher than he was in Octo 1.

To get this quest line, you need to help Al outside of your first character's town, then turn in three books to the library, and finally teach Al how to decipher languages. This will make an island near where you get Arcanist be the Gate of Finis, which you can go from there and beat Galdera. No boss rush, convenient save point and all that.

For the first stage of the fight, my strategy relied on using Divine Protection under Sealctige's on Hikari to make me invincible. I had two Dancers for that reason, so I could easily reapply even if the eye took away my buffs. I also relied on Ochette's Provoke Beasts skill to keep breaking shields easily. And of course Cassti's medicine really helps here.

For the second stage, I rely on Temenos using his literal nuke skill to clear the way to the boss, having way too many close calls in the process. Thanks to an excessive sum of money, both phases can be handled by spamming the most expensive hidden Hired Help, as it deals damage and heals. Despite Geldera's massive shields, I'm able to just keep whirling away and keeping myself alive.

Also of note: I had Partitio Hire the 10 star priest for initial ivulnerability. I had Temenos hire the Tutor for a little shield breaking and meat shielding. Ochette had a Ku Officer which gives a bunch of buffs that I did not have to use. And Agnea had Benkei, whose dance ability gives plus one BP to target.

Just like in the original, your prize is an item that completely eliminates random encounters. The fight was super hard as Galdera's HP is way higher than before, but I am glad I finally beat it. Phew.

Unlocking Conjurer Secret Class + Priestess Hinoekagura Superboss Octopath Traveler II

Collector Togami 2023-02-25 | If you visit Ku's castle grounds after beating Hikari's path, you will find a building's doors open. The Five-Tiered Tower holds a gauntlet of boss fights meant to only be undertaken by the best challengers, and at the top awaits the prize of the Conjurer hidden class. In my opinion, that class is fun but not as fun as Arcanist, which has a much easier unlock that I will be showing in a later video.

Priestess Hinoekagura has 200k hit points... and that's about all she has going for her. If you were strong enough to survive Hikari's boss gauntlet, then you're probably strong enough to unlock the other things necessary for the combo used in this video.

As stated in the 10 star Cleric video, my strategy centers around the usage of Divine Protection to set up the ultimate form of insurance, while having Temenos as the main DPS with his mana-to-damage dump. Both Hikari's Divine Protection and Temenos' skill are powered, of course, by Partitio's EX skill of giving away mana. And all of this comes together with Cassti's Concoct ability granting us more BP to act.

I could haver beaten this boss faster, but I wanted to humiliate her by taking my time, setting up Eternal Seal on Aelfric's so I effectively had permanent 2 moves in one turn on everyone. I also wanted to show just how stupidly broken things get once you have Arcanist!Partitio, and it did not disappoint.

I wonder if Dancer!Osvald can deal more damage as a whole with The One True Magic III vs Temenos, but that's something to test another day. It's the same core concept, just with the caveat you need to set up Alephan's.

Beating 10-star Cleric NPC from Octopath Traveler II Demo

Collector Togami 2023-02-25 | Without a doubt, this is one of the strongest NPCs in the game due to having about 70,000 hit points, few weaknesses, and the actual ability to become invincible for a few turns.

After a lot of thought, and with the full version of the game, I came to the conclusion that Arcanist!Hikari is one of the best ways to beat her because he gets all the fun cheesy stuff from Octopath 1 condensed into a single class. Not only can he reflect the spells from Cleric right back at her (to which she is somehow weak), but he can also set up a revival seal just in case things go sideways.

I played a very defensive game here, and have no doubt there are more offensive ways to defeat Cleric. I wanted to play with my food, so to speak.

If Hikari beats Cleric, he will learn the skill Divine Protection. For 100 SP, he will negate x amount of hits on a target character, x being boost factor. So in other words, if you cast Sealctige's Seduction on Hikari beforehand, he can quad boost and give everyone ivulnerability for four moves.

This works best if you have Arcanist!Partitio in your party, who can cast Seal of Eternity to keep Sealctige's Seduction up indefinitely, Donate BP as needed, and of course use his EX skill to overcap SP for the entire party.

Between Arcanist!Partitio being able to give everyone Sidestep just like Tressa used to do in Octopath 1, Hikari giving literal invincibility, and Arcanist having the ability to freaking make turn count based Divine Skills like Aelfric and Doether last forever, you can really mess with the game doing this.

I will post a video on how to get the Arcanist class at a later time, as that is the key component to the entire cheesy sandwich.

Journey for Dawn Octopath Traveler II Endgame

Collector Togami 2023-02-25 | Unlike the first iteration in the Octopath Traveler series, the second game is far more self aware of its shortcomings and gives us a great story involving all eight main characters coming together towards a common goal, actively talking among each other.

You also do not need to do any convoluted side quests to get the ball rolling. All you need to do to initiate the endgame of Octopath II is to clear all individual character main stories, and then do both chapters of all four Crossed Path stories, which take about half an hour each and are super easy.

Once you do all of this, you are told where to go, near Cropdale, to begin the questline. For the duration of the quest, it will always be night time, so you cannot use your day path actions. This means a high level Agnea and Throne, combined with Hikari and some money, are your best bet for doing any last minute stuff you may have otherwise forgotten.

The massive amount of lore dumping and plot twists is really great and ties things together far better than Octopath I did, and so I will let it speak for itself.

In addition to the main story itself, you have four sets of quests where four groups of two come together to solve something that has a greater significance in the whole.

Osvald and Partitio have long been my go-to combo in this game due to their natural synergy, moreso once Osvald gets The One True Magic and Partitio gets the ability to share his mana pool with the team. Unsurprisingly, I was exhilirated to see what fate had in store for them, but to be honest, this one felt more like a filler arc compared to the others as the telescope is not used to directly influence the plot.

The lyrics of the song Hikari hears are nearly perfect and Chekovian in terms of what will happen and why they need the mirror from the Temenos/Throne plotline. With the benefit of hindsight, this is one of the biggest foreshadowing moments in the game as it details very early on EXACTLY what will happen, and it is kinda frightening.

Instead of a convoluted series of side quests like in the original Octopath, the second installment in the series gives us a more straightforward way of unlocking the truth behind everything and reaching the crossed path. In addition to the main story itself, you have four sets of quests where four groups of two come together to solve something that has a greater significance in the whole.

Ochette and Cassti's subplot is one that really spells out the incoming doom, as shown by how everything goes dark all of a sudden. Something is up, they know it, but they need more information before drawing any conclusions. This is later obtained from the other characters at the end of their own Crossed Paths journeys.

I really like how the final battle was handled this time. Even if your second team isn't as powerful, you can still get away with your first. And all AoE moves affect the entire party, so you can really go far with heals, buffs, and so on. I REALLY gambled on Ochette's Provoke Beasts with Chubby Cait and honestly it paid off due to sheer overuse.

The ending and epilogue were a fantastic touch, I'm amused I got a Cait encounter and it fled from me as I reached the ending, that's a very Octopath way to end things lol. Vide was a way more fun final boss than Galdera, without the boss rush immediately before, and a convenient way to save. And the way they title drop at the end? Chefskiss. I love every bit of it.

I noticed Temenos did a lot of the talking, and wonder if this is the case if he is not the main character first picked.

Cassti Regains Her Memories Octopath Traveler II

On its surface, Cassti's third chapter is a filler arc, not unlike Agnea's. It's just a bunch of talk and exposition in a town, without any actual combat. However, what distinguishes this chapter isn't the fact you face an enemy in combat, but the fact it's one big Wham Episode where Cassti finally remembers every little bit of the lost memories she had from the past, and why she was there.

Her unfaltering ally and guide, Malaya, was in fact dead the whole time and was just a fragment of her mind guiding her along to remember and work past the trauma. And it finally worked. I have to applaud Cassti's mental fortitude, I do not know if most people would be able to handle something of this magnitude without more outward signs of emotional damage.

Hikari's chapter 5 breaks a lot of the "conventions" of an Octopath chapter. Instead of starting at a town, going to a conveniently nearby dungeon, fighting a boss, and then being told where to go next, we start barging INTO the town in question, and then we have a series of powerful boss fights, most of which can stand on their own even when compared with the other arc end bosses. I'm honestly surprised Hikari's chapter did not have a higher level recommendation like Ochette does.

During the penultimate chapter of his tale, Osvald finally learns the whereabouts of his arch nemesis Harvey, and runs to him to finally beat the guy. After a brief discussion, Professor Steve Harvey shows the survey says "unalived wife" as the number one answer, and forces Osvald to fight this abomination fueled by the blood of his wife.

After that, we realize that Osvald's daughter is still alive, just brainwashed so hard she thinks Harvey is her dad instead. This is another major twist, as her blood is considered more purely attuned to her ancestral bloodline of a hero who once destroyed a great evil, thus making them biologically conductive for The One True Magic.

This video shows the final battle for the character arc of Ochette, where they face Lajackal. After a long arduous journey, Ochette finally gets to end their arc and get the happy ending they deserve… or do they?

NOTE: I was not expecting this character to not only have the highest leveled end chapter, but to also have it be the freaking third chapter of all things. As a result, I had to use the option to playback scenes I had already seen.

Full name Lajackal of the Sorrowful Moon, this is in fact Akaia if you chose Mahina at the very start of your journey. I really like how the final boss of the entire plot arc is the "starter Pokemon" you did not pick, and I like it even more that Ochette has a lot of potential for this fight going in. Not only does she have the three guardians, but if you get some Octopuffs and/or Caits, you can really mess around with this fight. The skill she gets at the end of this allows her to, at max boost, summon any non once per battle monster combination, six times. This includes repeating monsters you already own ie 6x Chubby Cait. It's stupidly good.

When I say Steam Tank Obsidian, I am referring to Roque, who was somehow petty enough to not only expect Partitio to somehow have a ludicrous sum of leaves, but also had a contingency plan in case he was forced to enforce the contract-- building a steam powered tank / locomotive, the first ever armed vehicle in this universe history. I really like how this plot arc in particular showed us things like the creation of department stores and the shift to "silver leaves" as currency, and the repercussions it had to the silver miner town Partitio came from.

This video shows the final battle for the character arc of Hikari, where they face Enshrouded King. After a long arduous journey, Hikari finally gets to end their arc and get the happy ending they deserve… or do they?

Enshrouded King is actually Hikari's Brother, Mugen, who got consumed by the inner darkness of the Ku Clan blood. It repeats sentences stated by other major plot points, leading to the linking thread once more. This fight's gimmick is the BP permanent decrease for the duration of the battle, not unlike the max HP crain in Cassti's. Merchant!Hikari is uniquely poised to evasion tank and break anything this boss throws our way.
