Etna 28 February 2021 paroxysm Dean Gill 2021-03-07 | A short but very powerful eruption occurred on the morning of 28 February. Once again, this event was caused by the New Southeast Crater. The volcanic outbreak dumped a large amount of lapilli on its eastern slope, especially on Milo and Zafferana Etnea.

Storm chase in northern Spain Dean Gill 2010-10-11 | Left Geneva at 2:30 AM for a long drive to northern Spain with my chase partner Olivier Staiger (Klipsi). Caught a nice tail-end Charlie storm near Saragossa (Aragon). After a while, the storm became more outflowish and produced a spectacular shelf cloud. Later in the evening, other storms formed over the western mediterranean sea bringing lightning and torrential rain to the coastal resorts of Catalunya.

Tornado in Italy - July 6, 2008 Dean Gill 2010-01-23 | A successful chase in northern Italy. Left Geneva - Switzerland for a 600 km drive to Venice - Italy. Intercepted a first cell around noon west of Milan (north of Novara), then headed towards Venice where nicely backed easterly winds from the Adriatic provided an excellent environment for supercells and tornadoes (high dew points and strong low level directional shear). Intercepted a second storm which fired on the Alpine foot hills near Verona. It quickly became supercellular as it entered the Venetian plain. A first rain wrapped tornado occurred south of Padua then a second one as the storm entered the Venetian lagoon. Actually, not sure how to call it, tornado or mesocyclonic waterspout? as it occurred over the western fringe of the lagoon called "Dead Lagoon", which is a mixture of water and land.

High instability, very good shear, everything was right for supercells and tornadoes. Caught an impressive supercell which produced 2 tornadoes. This is the second tornado in its rope stage.
The La Grange tornado in its rope stage - Wyoming - 5 June 2009 Dean Gill 2009-09-03 | After a very close encounter with a tornado and some destructive giant hail, another nice tornado appeared 20 minutes later east of our position. This one was a rope tornado. Actually, it's the same tornado we saw 20 minutes earlier, only it was wrapped by rain and hail for quite a long time. And yes, it's a tornado, the La Grange tornado, not just a funnel.
