Pull Saw: amzn.to/2QxmhaAMaking an Epic Tome w/ Secret Lock | Leather Bound Book w/ Brass ClaspBrett McAfee2021-12-05 | Each year, our podcast (Fools With Tools) facebook group hosts a sort of Secret Santa. We call it, the Treasure Trade. We are secretly given another maker to make something for, and create something special for them. This year I had the honour of getting John D. Harvey, a writer, artist, and blacksmith. I felt is was only fitting to make him a notebook for his creative works using leather, steel, and brass. The secret locking mechanism was my favourite part to make. Thanks for watching!
Behind the Scenes: instagram.com/skullandspade13Forged and Fabricated Coffee Table Base | Making Steel TreeBrett McAfee2021-10-18 | This forged tree table base is my largest and most complex blacksmithing project to date. The client has a 250+lb petrified wood slab that he would like to use as a table top, and wanted an organic tree-like base to set it atop. Using my power hammer, my friend's hydraulic press, an oxy torch, and a ton of elbow grease, I think I can safely say: Mission Accomplished. Thank you for watching!
P.S. This project tested almost every aspect of "making" I've learned over the years, and I'm proud to say I think I created something that the client will enjoy for many years to come. We've come a long way on this journey, and we've got calm sees ahead. Here's to the next one.

Muriatic Acid: amzn.to/3m8uXAK100 Million Year Old Fossil | Forged DisplayBrett McAfee2020-09-26 | It is a strange feeling to hold something so absolutely ancient in your hands. The Ammonite had a long run on this planet, starting around 250 million years ago, up to around 65 million years ago. A piece like this has traveled so far to end up in my hands. I tried out a lot of different techniques to create this holder/display, and I love how it turned out. This was a focus on creating organic shapes, and an overall "underwater" aesthetic. I hope you enjoy.
