I wanted to offer something that allowed me to share what I have learned over the years as a physiotherapist and yoga therapist helping men and women optimize their pelvic floor health and function.
These practices address the roles our pelvic floor plays in breathing, posture, hip function, core timing, and standing balance ability and are filmed in breathtaking nature settings with spectacular cinematography by Mike Bernard and soulful music uniquely created by Trance Blackman with special care and attention to the intentions of each practice.
Healthy pelvic floor muscles need to be capable of being engaged in functional and coordinated ways in timing with other muscle groups and, like other muscles, it is essential that the pelvic floor muscles also be flexible and capable of being released and relaxed, with the ability to move throughout the full excursion during the breath cycle. These videos address these concepts:
Part A: "Pelvic Floor Muscle Relaxation": 30 minute practice of releasing the pelvic floor muscles through pelvic floor awareness, visualization and breathing methods, during mindful movements and yoga postures.
Part B: "Pelvic Floor Muscle Engagement": 40 minute practice that includes engagement of the pelvic floor muscles with various mindful movements and yoga postures integrated with the breath pattern.
I have also included a free bonus feature, the 'Toilet Meditation', where I guide you through the 6 stages of mindful toileting that I created to help improve awareness and pelvic floor muscle relaxation to help fully empty the bowel and bladder. *This bonus feature is available for you to stream for free, if you purchase both Part A and Part B videos above as the "Buy All" package.
**These practices are not meant to act as treatment for your specific issue nor replace your current treatment. Please check with your health care professional before starting this program to see if there are any precautions or contraindications you need to adhere to and whether pelvic floor muscle relaxation, engagement , or a combination of both, is indicated for you.
I sincerely hope you enjoy these practices, appreciate the nature settings and music, and hope they make a difference in your life, in a valuable way: vimeo.com/ondemand/pelvicfloorhealth/151444217
My intention in sharing these practices is to help people cultivate more awareness, presence, connection, regulation and self-compassion.
Research shows that mindfulness meditative practices such as these can help with things like pain, stress management, emotional and mental health and resilience, ability to focus and concentrate, and even improve compassion towards yourself and others.
This series includes 4 guided audio practices:
1) Self-Compassion Body Scan 2) Self-Compassion and Courage Meditation 3) Breath Awareness practice 4) Breath Control practice
**These mindful practices are created to be suitable and safe to follow. However, they are not meant to act as medical advice or as treatment for any conditions. Please seek guidance, advice and treatment from your licensed healthcare professional for any unmanaged conditions or symptoms (physical, mental, emotional) you may be experiencing before starting or continuing these practices.

As healthcare providers, it is assumed we will provide compassionate care to those we serve, as it is inherently part of our job. However, research shows that the capacity for compassion can vary and depend on a wide variety of factors. There may be challenges we face that may influence or inhibit our ability to offer and receive compassion.
In this short presentation, Shelly Prosko, physiotherapist and yoga therapist, outlines some of the challenges and the benefits of cultivating compassion and self-compassion in pain care for both the person living with pain and the health provider.
Compassion in pain care is more than just extending kindness towards people in pain. It involves gaining a more in-depth understanding and insight into the needs of the person we are serving and ourselves, then choosing responses that serve both, within the context of the situation.
