On Tour During Covid: Will I Survive? I Am Kawehi 2023-05-04 | In 2019, I decided it was time to go out on tour again after a 2-year hiatus. We planned for a yuuuge 2020 World Tour, and then - Covid struck. Cut to 2021 - we’ve postponed and rescheduled for the 3rd time. My gut was telling me to postpone again and push for 2023. But everyone was tired of rescheduling, so we went forward with the tour.Don’t get me wrong - I was super excited to see everyone out there after being cooped up for a year and a half. But my intuition was telling me that it was too early to go back out. Ticket sales were terribly low, and we were all still feeling a little hesitant to be shoved in a room, shoulder to shoulder for hours at a time. I am not signed to a record label, so going on tour is incredibly expensive for me, and I usually end up losing money in the end. Of course, I don’t go on tour for the money, but when you’re broke AF and haven’t had a paying gig for a year and a half - it’s hard to reconcile the positives when there are so many negatives. Needless to say - this tour took a lot outta us. We almost lost everything. Hell - we’re still in the red two years later. But I learned a lot of lessons on this tour. In the end - I learned to stick up for myself. To not be pushed again into doing something against your better judgment. I learned how to say NO, without beating myself up afterward with guilt. I learned that I had balls of steel, going out on tour when no one else was. And I was reminded, by all of you who showed up to these shows - that there’s still so much love out there.
