In December 2025, LSO Spotlight Artist Antoine Tamestit joined the London Symphony Orchestra and Chief Conductor Sir Antonio Pappano for a stunning performance of William Walton’s Viola Concerto.

Composed in 1929, Walton’s Viola Concerto is one of the most important works ever written for the instrument. Lyrical, introspective and richly orchestrated, the concerto transformed the viola’s role from orchestral inner voice to expressive solo protagonist. Its soaring melodies, bittersweet harmonies and virtuosic passages continue to captivate audiences nearly a century after its premiere.

Antoine Tamestit brings extraordinary depth and colour to this masterpiece, shaping Walton’s long melodic lines with warmth and intensity, while Sir Antonio Pappano leads the orchestra in a performance full of nuance and dramatic sweep.
