Germany has become the first EU country to launch GLP-1 pills, marking a major development in the European weight-loss market as it begins to introduce tablets alongside injections.
GLP-1 tablets offer an alternative to so-called 'fat jabs' as the treatment soars in popularity to tackle obesity as well as diabetes.
The pill-form of Wegovy, made by Novo Nordisk, has been available in the UK since June, in September they are launching in Germany, with other EU member states set to follow.
GLP-1 is prescribed by healthcare professionals to patients who are struggling to lose weight through diet and exercise but some in the health space are wary of the treatment, warning it is no substitute for a healthy lifestyle. The medication can also have severe side-effects.
