Taiwan's story, Horton argues, is inseparable from the island's transformation into a vibrant democracy and technology powerhouse. Its semiconductor industry underpins the global economy, while its political trajectory has made it a frontline state in the contest between authoritarianism and democracy. Yet, Taiwan's international space remains constrained, with few formal diplomatic allies and constant pressure from Beijing to isolate it further.
Horton has been a foreign correspondent based in Taipei for a decade, having previously worked in China and Hong Kong.
