PvP in MMOs is awkward, because the MMO is focused on slow progression and increase in player power, and this works really well for pve when the AI enemy can be balanced to your team and level, but not for human opponents.

The spirit of competition is equal and balanced conflict with both sides having even chance of victory, and the result is mostly based on skill, not overwhelming power.

The PvP MMO's however, often focus on overwhelming power rendering skill obsolete.
