Today we think people in the past were really stupid for thinking that the sun and planets go around the Earth. But it is not quite so simple. You can't just go out and look and see the Earth turning or going around the sun. In particular, Galileo noticed moons going around Jupiter, which meant to him that the Moon goes around the Earth. But some evidence didn't fit. Why is it that the Moon is not rotating the way the Earth does? We can explain it today but centuries ago it was not so obvious.
