I was joined by Dr. Beth Felker Jones to discuss her recent book, "Why I Am Protestant" addressing critiques that Protestantism is fragmented, individualistic, and cut off from tradition. She argues that Orthodox, Catholic, and Protestant Christians share a central “deposit of faith” summarized in the early ecumenical creeds as reliable summaries of Scripture centered on Jesus’ death and resurrection. She explains her claim that Protestants can be “catholic,” “orthodox,” and “reformed” in broad senses, highlights an “ecclesiology of grace” drawn from Augustine’s response to the Donatist controversy, and offers models of unity such as Luther’s “church in action” and Anglican-inspired branch ecclesiology.
