repost via Club Red Circle: In 1991, when British pop was filled with divas, boybands and producers looking for the next big hit, three English men decided to laugh at it all: Right Said Fred — the brothers Richard and Fred Fairbrass along with guitarist Rob Manzoli — release I’m Too Sexy, a provocative mix of dance-pop, disco and camp mood. The song was born in 1990, inspired by the Fairbrass brothers' gym, and was written by Richard, Fred and Manzoli. They even had to fund the demo themselves after several labels rejected it.

The single appeared in July 1991 and quickly became a phenomenon. In the UK it reached No.2, behind the unbeatable Bryan Adams, but the real bomb comes across the Atlantic: in February 1992 it reached No.1 on the Billboard Hot 100.
