Cameron Bertuzzi of @CapturingChristianity and @CapturingCatholicism recently dismantled the alleged miracle of the Holy Fire in Jerusalem. But does he apply the same critical standards when miracle claims support Christianity or Catholicism? Joe Schmid’s recent public conversion to Catholicism, in which miracle claims played a major role, makes that question especially timely.
Cameron’s follow-up also responds directly to Andrew Wilson of @The_Crucible, who presented the Holy Fire as an unexplained Orthodox miracle during his appearance on The Joe Rogan Experience.
We begin with Fr. Evangelos Markantonis’s account of the Holy Fire, recorded inside the historic Kapnikarea Church in Athens. The interview was conducted by Stephen Nelson of @CrossBibleOfficial and filmed by Neal Sendlak of @GnosticInformant.
Then we examine Cameron’s carefully argued case against the Holy Fire and compare it with his treatment of Fatima, the Zeitoun apparitions, and the alleged Eucharistic miracle of Tixtla.
The issue isn’t whether Cameron is right about the Holy Fire. His investigation presents serious evidence against it. The question is whether eyewitness testimony, chain of custody, alternative explanations, and motivated reasoning receive the same scrutiny when a miracle appears to support Cameron’s own religious beliefs.
This isn’t an argument for the Holy Fire. It’s a test of consistency.
