Every year, our Museum scientists name new species from research carried out in the collections, labs, and out in the field.

This year, they’ve helped to describe 262 new species!

From insects, crustaceans, fish, fungi, worms, amphibians, reptiles and even creatures known only from fossils, 2025 has revealed an extraordinary snapshot of life on Earth.
