This is when Anna came across the NUTRISHIELD app created by the EU funded Horizon 2020 project NUTRISHIELD.
This project aims to provide personalized nutrition advice assisting young people in achieving their optimal health and well-being.
The data, from a series of tests administered to Anna by her doctor, is processed locally at the hospital and then the NUTRISHIELD algorithm is used to prepare food recommendations.
Anna signs in to the app to find her doctor’s recommendations.
However, Anna is not sure what each of the portions means, so she clicks on the circles below to see, in more detail.
Throughout the day, Anna monitors her daily nutritional progress by sliding circles to the left until she has ingested all the recommended portions.
Anna can even take picture of her food and include it in the app alongside a description or scan the barcode and make note of this in the app.
If she decides to eat an extra portion, that’s ok! She just takes note of it in the NUTRISHIELD app so that her and her doctor are fully aware.
Before bed, Anna takes a minute to input her daily activity into the app by replying to 4 simple questions.
In this way her doctors know how well Anna follows their advice, and Anna knows what the doctors want her to eat every day.
Within 4 and a half years, NUTRISHIELD managed to integrate all the required elements into one platform, as a new tool for fact-based personalized nutrition.
