‘That's what I call eternal art!’
In Benedikt von Peter's production of Kurt Weill´s and Bertolt Brecht's musical theatre critique of capitalism, AUFSTIEG UND FALL DER STADT MAHAGONNY (The Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny), the bourgeois opera house on Bismarckstraße is transformed into a proletarian party town.
But the mood quickly changes when it becomes clear that neither the shameless exploitation works nor can the self-proclaimed city laws survive unscathed. Disillusionment and emptiness are followed by the question: What is missing?
