This conversation stems from me trying to better understand audio companding as was used in E-MU's early samplers. diving into wikipedia and other online resources, I found inadequate. Most of these online resources just assumed that the companding was the same as done in early days of telecom. This however I found to be inaccurate. So I reached out to Dave to ask him some details and what follows is the result. I can't thank Dave Rossum enough for sharing his knowledge and time with not just myself , but the community as a whole. This industry would not be the same without him and I am humbled everytime I get to speak with him.
I sit down to have a chat about what it was like bringing the MPC 2000, Akai DPS12 and other products to light during the mid to late 90's era
This is one of the most powerful mutants in the hydrasynth but often misunderstood. To get this preset you can join the Facebook group facebook.com/groups/asmhydrasynth and find it in the Files section.

A pioneer of the Modbap community and movement, Corry Banks coined the term “Modbap”. As the founder of BBoyTechReport, Beatppl, and Modbap Modular, Banks focuses on assuring the voice of hip-hop is present in music technology. Banks’ passion is to bridge the gap between hip-hop and modular synthesis. modbap.com

With the announcement or leak of the new Maschine Standalone, the question arises... Are we witnessing a paradigm shift? To tether or not to tether that is the question. Has NI lost its stronghold on the beatmakers market now that Akai has set a new standard of strong stand-alone machines like MPC X, One, Live (II) etc? How much does it matter that NI has traditionally offered very strong plug-ins and VSTs vs. AKAI having flipped things on its head with plugin in their standalone boxes? How does the hardware compare? Do we need a CV on these stand-alone boxes? What CV alternatives and eurorack integration options exist for both brands?
Let's talk about it all on Saturday, 09/12/2020.

About Dave...
Starting with his co-founding of E-mu Systems, Dave provided the technological leadership that resulted in what many consider the premier professional modular synthesizer system. The E-mu Modular System combined superlative analog design, innovative use of digital technology, and unparalleled physical construction and reliability.
In the following years, Dave and E-mu turned their attention to affordable professional digital sampling with the Emulator keyboards and racks. The Emulator II in particular established sampling as the leading music technology of its time, becoming a standard fixture in professional studios worldwide and appearing on innumerable hit records and film soundtracks. SP-1200It was followed by the Emax samplers, the legendary SP-12 and SP-1200 sampling drum machines, the Proteus sound modules and the Morpheus Z-Plane Synthesizer.
In addition, Dave also developed and licensed technology that enabled the creation of many iconic synthesizers, including the Oberheim 4-Voice, the Sequential Circuits Prophet 5 and, via his design of many of the SSM music ICs, instruments from Korg, Kawai, and many more.

More on Roger Linn...
In 1988, he designed the innovative MPC60 MIDI Production Center for the Japanese Akai Company, with his signature appearing on the product’s front panel. Combining a sampling drum machine with a real-time MIDI sequencer, this product gradually became the industry standard in the production of hip-hop, dance and related music styles throughout the 1990s, and has been credited as a significant influence in the evolution of hip hop music. This was followed in 1994 with the enhanced MPC3000 and others. In addition to these designs for Akai, he also helped design products for a variety of companies during the 1990s, including the Japanese Roland company.

We will dig into all of this and more on 4/22/2020 at 6 pm PDT.
The Hypno is inspired by analog video systems. It digitally emulates and extends common analog video workflows that previously required whole systems to achieve, with shape generation, colorization, feedback and the ability to patch these elements in a simple compact interface.
Improvements:
System setup now saves Tuning, Scope, LED Dim, TempoLock now.
Now when you name a patch, shift+left control knob will bring you to the first character of current group instead of previous group.
Tempo knob easier to hit 120 now.
Mutator in mod des renamed to Mutant.
Optimize the home page patch name display.
Now if you save a patch with glide off, it will record the glide time information.
Now Hydrasynth will send clock only in INTRUN mode.
System ARP mode from OFF/ON change to RX Only/TX RX/TX Only
Now if you hold a note, and change octave, the note polyAT still work.
When Overflow ON,now USB MIDI will still follow AT TX。
Cut the internal midi loop in chord mode.
Bug fixed:
When you have midi loop, mod matrix will change depth when you highlight the mod des.
Fix the bug that Hydrasynth didn't respond to program change when MPE on.
Fix the CV Mod in offset inverted problem.
Using Ext tempo with DAW, and play latch ARP. There will be a chance to generate a long note when you stop the DAW.
Not sync with DAW downbeat while using ext clock.
Fix the bug the Hydrasynth didn't save ribbon Hold in patch.
When overflow On,1 USB Midi didn't respond to AT TX setup.
Fix the bug that there's chance the direct cutoff don't work in some pages.
c-1 ref note didn't respond pb wheel
Very low note may send wrong CV
Fixed sometime after you change the patch, the * will disappear.
