Following the pilgrimage to Spruce Island, the clergy and faithful gathered for the Vigil and Hierarchical Divine Liturgy in honor of Saint Herman, as well as for the weekend Vigil and Divine Liturgy at Holy Resurrection Cathedral in Kodiak.
During the Sunday homily, Archbishop Alexei gave an inspiring word, reminding the faithful that our lives, like Saint Peter walking upon the water, must be firmly rooted in Christ. Guided by faith rather than fear, and refined by the love of God, we find our salvation in Him.
"So today, beloved, let us remember: Christ is our only foundation, fear is the enemy that sinks us, and the fire will reveal what we have built. And if you have fallen, like Saint Peter, remember this: he walked, he faltered, he cried out, and the Lord saved him. That is the Holy Gospel revealed in one man’s weakness, and it is our Gospel as well. Christ is near. Even when the night is dark, even when the wind is strong, even when you are far from shore, He comes. He walks toward you. And He will not let you drown. Let us leave this church today as those who have heard the voice of Christ and stepped out of the boat. Let us walk by faith, and not by fear. Let us build our lives on the only foundation that will never fail. And with all our heart, let us cry, in calm and in storm, now and forever: “Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner, and save me, O my Savior.”
