SM64 The ABC Trials 0x A Presses in 33:47 Zerolin 2024-06-24 | I decided to try and complete this hack over a year ago, but got stuck at trial 16. Since then, I've gotten much better at TASing in general, and decided about a month ago to give it another go. And finally today, I completed it! Overall, this is probably the hardest thing I've done in this game. The hardest trials IMO were trial 30, 37, 45 (the hardest overall), and trial 60. Some tech required to complete this hack I had never done before and had to learn, such as the Swooper manipulation in trial 30 and the Heave Ho manipulation in trial 27. Pannen's old videos helped a lot with this. Overall, this hack is a great way to challenge your TASing abilities, I'd recommend trying it even if you can't do everything. Btw, there are tons of skips and cheese strats that you can do to make the whole thing easier, but I thought it would be lame to do these since it defeats the purpose of the challenge. SMSR - Enter Puzzle of the Vanish Cap - 0x A Presses Zerolin 2023-10-12 | It turns out it's possible to get a scuttlebug to clip into the Secret Tunnel room, which allows you to bounce on it and get onto the pipe. Initially I couldn't get the scuttlebug to clip without it despawning (since scuttlebugs despawn when colliding with a wall too far below their current home). However, Marbler (@supermarble94) showed me a much better spot to clip the scuttlebug, and this made it possible to get it to clip into the room without it hitting a wall and despawning! This new glitch essentially allows us to upwarp to a preset HOLP using Chuckya, which is how I collect this star. Here's what I do: First, I enter Mountain Mushroom Town and set the HOLP to a precise location. Then, I go to Fatal Flame falls. Once there, I grab Chuckya light and throw him to the preset HOLP using BCA. SMSR - Break into the Building - 0x A Presses Zerolin 2022-10-15 | TAS made by me and MarblerI collect the star "Break into the Building" in 0x A presses. This video is an improvement from the previous strategy, which collected this star using 1 A press. You can find that video here: youtu.be/lL0IaP0PxLkSince then, we planned out a way to collect this star in 0 A presses by using a goomba ladder to get up to the star platform. Note that simply getting up to the star platform isn't enough to collect it, as breaking the window requires a kick which would require A to be held. However, by bringing Chuckya up as well, it's possible to clip past the window. Here's what we do in the video. First of all, we set the HOLP to a very precise location; this will be the location of the highest goomba that we bounce on. Without this preset HOLP, the strategy would still technically be possible, but would take an extra 16 goomba clones. To set the HOLP, we go to Melting Snow Peaks and manipulate a fly guy to around where the HOLP needs to be set. Then, we use the crazy box and bounce on the fly guy to set the HOLP. We exit the course and go to Chuckya Harbor. The very first thing I do here is place the highest goomba clone. To avoid updating the HOLP, I use behind camera anywhere when cloning. The main problem with cloning like this has to do with how cork boxes work. In order to grab a cork box fake you must first drop it and wait until it unloads. Since I need to preserve the HOLP, I'm forced to release the cork box at the HOLP when I first drop it. This is a problem of course since the HOLP is far away from Mario, meaning I wouldn't be able to grab it a second time in order to clone with it. Luckily, I can make use of the out of bounds failsafe mechanism. The HOLP's lateral and vertical position is in bounds. However, the HOLP's lateral position at Mario's vertical position is out of bounds (Inside of the roof). This means that I can release the cork box out of bounds with Z (releasing it at the HOLP's lateral position but at Mario's height) which causes it to instantly snap to Mario's position. Then, I wait for the cork box to unload in order to grab it fake, clone a goomba, and release it with a throw which releases it at the lateral and vertical position of the HOLP. I do all of this while Mario is behind the camera (I activate BCA twice during this process since I have to change Mario's position). Next, I set the HOLP to a new location and start the process over again. I reset the HOLP a total of 7 times for 7 goomba clusters, making a cluster of 7 goombas the first time, 6 the second time, etc. After constructing the full goomba ladder/staircase, I grab chuckya light and bring him to the top. At the peak of the last goomba bounce, which is still quite far below the top platform, I throw chuckya and have him grab Mario at the same time. This gives Mario a huge boost in height, which is just barely enough to get onto the platform. From there, chuckya throws Mario past the window and directly into the star! At the end I show a side view of the final goomba climb. You can see just how much height I gained from the chuckya throw at the end!
