LAFD Fourth of July Structure Response: Multiple Auto Fires Expose Multiple Buildings 310FIRE 2023-07-10 | While in route to a nearby auto fire myself and fellow photographers noticed a loom up. At the same time Rescue 833 was driving through the area and noticed the loom up. Rescue 833’s driver notified MFC (Metro Fire Communications.)Los Angeles Fire Department Light Force 64, Rescue 64, Engine 57, Engine 65 and Battalion 13 were dispatched to Broadway and Century. Rescue 64 arrived on scene, updating incoming units of an outside fire exposing a two story apartment complex. Engine 57 initiated fire attack on the autos and rubbish while Light Force 64 took the roof of an exposure. Knockdown was called a short time later with minor heat damage to the exposures. The pursuit looped around and headed to El Segundo before eventually being spike stripped two times. The suspect came to a stop in Downtown Los Angeles. The vehicle was stolen. LAFD Brush Fire: Ballona Wetlands 310FIRE 2022-06-20 | Los Angeles Fire Department Engine 5 (on a 24hr move up to FS 67) was dispatched to a vehicle fire at the intersection of Culver & Jefferson Blvds. Upon arrival Engine 5 requested one additional engine. Engine then requested two additional engines modifying it to a grass assignment. Moments later the incident was modified to a full brush assignment with air operations attached. LACo.FD Engine 110, Engine 58 & Quint 110 took the zulu flank off of Jefferson Blvd while LAFD units & Culver City resources worked the alpha flank on Culver Blvd. Battalion 4 was known as Jefferson IC with Fire 2 assuming hel co.Jefferson IC’s main objective was keeping the fire within the “V” of Culver & Jefferson, not allowing the fire to jump the road.Ground crews made great progress along with two drops from LAFD’s Agusta AW139 water droppers. Additional resources were requested to relieve the assisting agencies. Through a well coordinated progressive hose lay the fire was held to 3 1/2 acres within the “V”. LAFD Major Emergency Commercial Fire: Fashion District 310FIRE 2022-05-06 | The Los Angeles Fire Department was dispatched to a reported structure fire on the 1300 block of S Los Angeles St. Light Force 10 was first on scene reporting a one story row of commercials with heavy smoke showing. Companies began an offensive fire attack. The majority of the fire was located to the C (rear) side of the building.Within 15 minutes two additional task forces were requested by the incident commander. Truck 10 & Truck 11 aggressively ventilated the roof to assist interior companies with locating the fire. The building was corrected to be a two story with the mezzanine containing heavy fire on the second floor. 10 minutes into the firefight two additional task forces (Light Force + Engine) were requested, an additional three were later requested.The Incident Commander (Command 22) which was known as “LA IC” requested all companies off of the roof and out of the building due to firefighter safety concerns. Rapid intervention crews (RIC) were standing by for firefighter safety. Companies set up heavy flow hand lines from the exterior and ladder pipes to hit the fire from above. Knockdown was eventually called in two hours and four minutes with no reported injuries. The commercial structure contained clothing and other materials. Dramatic LA River Rescue: LAFD Rescues Good Samaritan After Trying to Capture German Shepard Dog 310FIRE 2022-03-29 | The Los Angeles Fire Department was dispatched to the LA River at Burbank Blvd. Responding units immediately strategically positioned themselves down river from the reported location. A female and her dog were located at Kester with water moving 5-10mph due to rain falling. Ground crews threw a life saving device but the female valued her dog over the safety of the ring. LAFD Air Ops arrived on scene and lowered a rescuer to her location and hoisted her. The dog began running down the river. LAFD Fire 3 (LAFD Copter) began making multiple attempts to hoist the dog which came up unsecceful due to the dog being defensive. A man jumped in the water to attempt his own rescue but was unsuccessful and needed to be hoisted by LAFD Air Ops. Nearly two and a half hours later LAFD Swift Water Rescue teams were able to capture the dog.
