We don’t need to always use verbal communication, in this example on a walk, where I am walking on a road where cars can suddenly appear. I keep my dogs closer than when we walk on a trail with no cars. You can see how they can easily understand I’m stopping by the sound of my feet. Leash Pressure trained with +R EXPLAINED - Professional Dog Training Dog Training by Kikopup 2023-11-05 | Firstly, Different trainers condition and use leash pressure in different ways. Some compulsion trainers will condition the leash pressure to become a conditioned punisher that will stop a dog doing something or make them less likely to do it in the future. While a lot of trainers like myself specifically condition leash pressure to become a cue like a recall trained with positive reinforcement, to mean, come back and stay with the owner. But because most dogs without any initial training find being touched by the leash when they pull aversive, the trainer first has to use counter conditioning to change the dog’s emotional response to the feeling of the pressure to be a positive one, before then conditioning it to be a cue to return to owner. The difference in this training means that when the dog does hit the end of the leash or the owner shortens the leash, the leash pressure will not act as a conditioned punisher making whatever the dog was doing less likely to happen. So with positive reinforcement training, the trainer will then have to reinforce the behavior they DO want the dog to do, otherwise they will get a dog constantly hitting the end of the leash for treats. So to do this while training the leash pressure exercise you will see the trainer, marking and reinforcing for the dog staying next to them as the behavior they do want the dog to do around distractions. Things are not intrinsically reinforcing or punishing. You can turn food and petting into a punisher and something like putting on a leash and harness or even pulling on one into a reinforcer. Over time and in different situations the values change and a punisher can change into a reinforcer and vise versa. So the trainers and owners need to be good at reading their dogs body language and taking note of their dogs behavior rather than just assuming something is a punisher or a reinforcer. Over time a dog could regress to start to find the leash pressure aversive and so more conditioning would be necessary. In the same way a dog might start to not enjoy being groomed the steps need to be broken up and worked on where the dog is having a positive emotional response during the session. She could tell as soon as we left the areas she knew, that we were somewhere new. Even if she wasn’t looking out the window. I am pretty good at teaching dogs to be calm, but wish was really stressing out from time to time in the car. One day I just decided to ask her if she wanted to howl and she really enjoyed it and immediately settled afterwards. So now, from time to time I ask her questions while we’re driving. Usually if she’s in the back, but this time she was in the front, so I got to film it. I saw some viral video where a guy tells his dog he’s going on a road trip, and then says woo hoo, and wish loves that game. It settles her right down and gets her in a positive state of mind.Has anyone else had experience with asking their dog to howl and it helping them relax?Ps, my dogs are usually in crates in the car but For some reason my back of my van was not opening.Dog training behavior modification anxiety stress

She knows the back feet static position changes. The way that I think is the easiest to train, is choosing the correct nonslip platform. This is an exercise platform for humans I got on Amazon for super cheap and it’s got Velcro on the bottom to keep it stuck to the carpet. You could have one for the back feet as well. But when they are learning to jump back, I don’t suggest it be very tall, and I don’t suggest it be the type of object that could hurt them if they bumped into it. The front pad should be wide enough for the dog to sit on comfortably, and long enough for the dog, to put their elbow down on with their front foot at the edge of it. The way that I teach down from a tucked sit is by asking the dog to back up, marking the movement of jumping back and then asking them to go in the down. Getting the position of stand from a tucked sit first. Then combining the cues when the dog has a beautiful movement. I would add a new cue soon with Wish because she got it very quickly. You don’t need to press on your dogs back, or push into them, put a noose on their abdomen or jerk on their neck, use a stern voice or shout at them to get them to have beautifully precise and reliable position changes.
