The focus this time is on building out the mechanical parts and blocking the armour panels to push the design further into the hard-surface biomech world.
I show a quick and simple way to use a duplicate of the base mesh, subdivide it, and with the Slice Curve brush split it into different polygroups. From there, I delete what’s not needed and dynamesh the rest to create clean, interesting panels.
I also demonstrate how I used my custom GIO brush to sketch and refine the hard-surface details, adding structure and definition to the creature’s mechanical shapes. Stick around for the full process, tips, and workflow insights on bringing organic and mechanical elements together in ZBrush. ____________________________ 🎬 IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:

The main focus was on using the Balloon Mesh Brush to block out large shapes and quickly establish the main forms of a creature with four legs and two mantis-like arms. I then showed how to refine and rearrange those elements into a more cohesive design using simple adjustments and proportions.
I also demonstrated how to use ZRemesher as a sketching tool, pulling, pushing, and re-remeshing on the fly to refine shapes while keeping the mesh low poly and clean. This alternative workflow works similarly to Dynamesh, but keeps your topology light so you can stay focused on exploring big, bold shapes before worrying about details.
It’s a fast, flexible way to prototype complex creature ideas while keeping the process fun and experimental.Building your mesh with ZSpheresPablo Muñoz Gómez2025-10-14 | Strong sculpts start with solid foundations 💪 In this reel, I’ll share a few ZBrush do’s and don’ts to help you block better, stay clean, and sculpt with intent, before diving into details.

I walked through a few different ways you can export your sculpt, from sending the high-res mesh with polypaint (vertex color) straight into Marmoset, to creating quick UVs for baking normal and texture maps.
We also explored how to use the Multi Map Exporter in ZBrush to generate maps automatically, and how to set up your materials inside Marmoset for both high-res and low-res renders. The main goal is to show you how to get a clean, polished render of your sculpt using your ZBrush polypaint… without overcomplicating the process.
If you want to see how to take your concept from ZBrush to a final render, this session is a solid walkthrough.

Substance 3D Painter is incredibly powerful… but there are a few hidden tips and shortcuts that can make your workflow much smoother. In this video, I’ll share five practical tricks that can save you time and frustration when painting, texturing, and managing your projects.
Here’s what you’ll learn:
- Lighting Based on Camera – A simple switch in display settings to keep your model lit, no matter where you rotate it. - Focus Mode – How to isolate texture sets, masks, and objects to work cleaner and faster. - Custom Filters in the Shelf – A smarter way to organise and instantly access your own assets and materials. - Auto Updater for Resources – Keep external images and assets synced automatically. - MatFX HBAO – Add ambient occlusion from height information to capture all the small details you paint.
These are small but powerful tips that can make Painter feel more intuitive and help you focus on creativity instead of fighting the software. ________________ Find more details, resources, and links for this tutorial here: 👉 https://www.pablander.academy/tutorials/my-top-5-tips-to-work-more-efficiently-with-substance-3d-painter

We’ll start by refining surface details with the Soft Form brush and subdivision levels, then dive into Polypainting in ZBrush to bring the creature to life. The focus will be on building believable skin tones and color variation, starting with bright hues like yellow, blue, and red, then blending them together to create natural-looking transitions.
By the end of the stream, we’ll have established a striking red skin look for the Uakari creature, with richer detail and texture variation.
What you’ll learn: - How to refine details with brushes & subdivision levels - Approaches for setting up base hues in Polypaint - Techniques for blending colors for natural skin tones - Tips for achieving variation and richness in creature textures with masking ________________________________________ 🎬 IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Skin Details & Custom Brushes - https://www.pablander.academy/event/skin-details-custom-brushes _________________________________________
When it comes to sculpting, the real progress happens early, during the blockout and foundation stages. That’s where you make the big decisions. Detailing is the easy part… it just takes patience and good references.
In this video, I’ll share some practical "Do’s and Don’ts" to help you keep your sculpts clean, intentional, and easier to refine, from the first ZSphere to the final details.
Here’s what we’ll cover:
- Blocking with ZSpheres – Use them to establish proportions and silhouette, not secondary forms. - Subdivision vs Dynamesh– When to use each, and how to avoid messy surfaces. -Brush Control – Why big strokes and clean surfaces matter more than early details. - Primitives, IMM, and Subtools – Flexible ways to block shapes and refine volumes. - Dynamesh & ZRemesher – How to use them at the right time for cleaner results. - Details & Custom Brushes – How to add surface quality without losing form or hierarchy.
The goal isn’t to overwhelm you with fancy tricks… It’s to give you a solid, repeatable workflow that makes sculpting faster, cleaner, and more intentional. ___________________ 🎬 WATCH NEXT: Making The Thing: From Blockout to Render - youtube.com/playlist?list=PLTHWvraT6EYcNHEm0ci3JIKPoZhsamMpR

In this video, I’ll show you how to keep everything inside a single mask and still use anchor points to drive generators, blending, and detail.
This “master mask” workflow has saved me a ton of time and makes it easier to keep track of complex materials. Instead of cluttering your stack, you can drop anchor points as 'checkpoints' within one mask and reference them whenever you need.
I’ll walk through building a simple fabric material step by step, starting from the threads, so you can see exactly how this method works in practice.
If you’ve ever felt lost with anchor points or struggled with messy stacks, this approach will give you a clearer, more flexible way of working. _________________

Increase the document resolution and click on AAhalf to avoid pixelation 2. Framing! make sure your angle works to showcase your model 3. Choose the right material that works for the model, if your focus is to show the quality of your sculpt and surface quality... don't use Red Wax ;) (when in doubt, the basic material is the best option).Stylised Eyes With PolypaintPablo Muñoz Gómez2025-09-01 | In this third video of sculpting The Thing, I take the sculpt a step further by increasing the resolution and refining the forms. The focus here is on smoothing transitions and maintaining clean surfaces.

Spoiler: it’s seriously impressive!
In this video, I put Blender’s new sculpting performance to the test with millions of polygons and was surprised at how fluid the whole process feels. It’s not a direct comparison with ZBrush (that’s not the point), but it’s wild to see how close Blender has come in handling heavy meshes for sculpting.
One thing that really stood out for me is how easy it is to jump between sculpting and rendering. Being able to switch into Cycles in just a couple of clicks and check your volumes under proper lighting makes the workflow incredibly compelling…. especially for concepting and quick iterations.
This isn’t a tutorial on sculpting, but more of a showcase of where Blender is at with sculpting right now and why Vulkan in 4.5 is such a game-changer, which is HUGE!
Let me know in the comments below what are your thoughts about this sculpting capabilities in Blender 4.5! _________________________________________ 🎬 Watch Next: Making The Thing: From blockout to render (Playlist): www.pablander.academy/tutorials/making-the-thing-from-blockout-to-render
