I Built a Castle for a Squirrel | Gary House #2 ijessup 2023-03-15 | Why would I work on my own house when Gary needs a castle? Okay, it's not that simple... Firstly, this was supposed to be a sponsored video but it isn't now and I explain why over on Patreon. Secondly, I might not be able to start reconstruction on the PoopHouse until October. It is not uncommon for a content creator to be found recording voiceover in their closet. This is because it can be tricky to find a quiet, anechoic space. If, as in my case, you happen to live with other content creators, this is even more difficult because SOME people don't respect the "don't shout and/or use power tools when I'm recording" rule. SO, I'm remedying that by creating my own sound studio. The interior of the PoopHouse will be one large room that is devoid of carpets or other sound dampeners so I decided to dedicate the RV to my cause. This is the first of a probable trilogy: demolition, framing, build-out. I sure hope it all works out. Cleaning out a Hoarders House | Tiny House Renovation Phase 1: Cleanup ijessup 2020-04-26 | Well, I finally did it: I completed the first step in the COMPLETE OVERHAUL of my tiny house in the desert. DIY Cedar Shelf with Felt Hampers | Bathroom Furniture ijessup 2019-02-28 | I share a bathroom... enough said. But really, our bathroom is small and there are enormous, built-in, floor to ceiling cabinets that are mostly filled with building materials. Not only is there only one place to hang any towels or washcloths - a problem for another day - there's a very small amount of floor space that is usually covered in dirty clothes, shoes, and the occasional pair of glasses. This is my attempt to rectify that problem. I built a very sturdy shelf out of cedar ( it was what I had on-hand; 2x4s would have worked just as well ) and sewed two very simple, felt clothes hampers. The dingus is away for a bit so you'll just have to follow me on Instagram to find out how well they work in real life. I recorded the voiceover right after returning from WorkBenchCon. Four straight days of talking and, in the louder scenarios, yelling really did a number on my voice. I like to think of it as sultry but really it's just froggy. Battle Axe made from a Rogue Fitness Weight Plate for The Mountain | Game of Thrones ijessup 2019-01-25 | Presenting the MOST ANTICIPATED VIDEO OF 2019: Game of FoolsStarring:Jessie Uyeda as Mysterious ValyrianBrett McAfee as Westerosi Blacksmith-Our story opens on a mysterious Valyrian who receives an even more mysterious message from a distant land. It would seem that a Westerosi blacksmith is calling upon her ancient knowledge of conjuring and angle grinding to aid in creating a battle axe "the like of which has never been seen". How could she refuse when all that is needed is a simple blood sacrifice? -Once again, you see my reach far exceeding my grasp. This project, along with being my first real collaboration, was the first time that I made anything for someone. When the opportunity arose to create a battle axe out of a 45lb Rogue Fitness weight plate AND present it in person to Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson - a.k.a. Thor, a.k.a. The World's Strongest Man, a.k.a. Ser Gregor Clegane, a.k.a. The Mountain - I jumped at the chance. What seemed like a pretty straight forward build turned out to be a problem-solving marathon. There was much frustration, many burns, a fair bit of blood, some tears... all in 15º weather. But, we persisted and delivered the battle axe at (near) the designated time. Thor was delighted by his gift and that made this whole adventure even better. It could have ended there...... but then I decided to re-record all the music. Yeah... if you are interested in hearing me complain at great length about that debacle then make sure that you watch my next vlog which will be released on February 1st. We've got a good crew: blacksmiths, leatherworkers, crafters... even picked up a bonafide Al. There are those that are rich and flush with the new technology; us, not so much. An idea will get you a build; tools will help you build it. A Maker's goal is simple: find a build, find a crew, keep flying. In Foolfly: Episode 01, Captain Malcolm Reynolds forges a battle axe for River to fight the Reavers. Episode 03 finds Mal taking the shuttle to the desert to deliver the axe. Finding a lone weapon to be problematic to her balance, River makes The Reaver Sword to keep her in alignment. But, Mal and River must postpone their trip to Persephone when Mal gets a wave from Monty. DIY 2x4 Furniture | Modern Outdoor Furniture ijessup 2018-04-29 | Just in time for summer! When we came out to Joshua Tree we knew that we wanted to watch movies in the alien landscape. But, the sand and cactus issue was... well, an issue. Hence, outdoor furniture! This might be my simplest build yet. Each side is cut from a single 8' 2x4 and a grand total of 12 1x3 slats. I designed them to specifically fit these outdoor cushions that I got from Target. DIY Log Bench a.k.a. The Ogre Bench ijessup 2018-04-05 | I've always been a bit leery of chainsawing because, well, chainsaws. But, the time came for me to strap my boots on and see how she fared. I wasn't able to make any of my original three designs because of log length, minimal heartwood, and the inability to cut straight lines with a chainsaw. So, what came out was this bench that, according to Ben and Mike, has an ogre's foot. Therefore... The Ogre Bench. I do want to do more with logs, boots, and chainsaws in the future but I'll have to do a bit more planning before I tackle that beast. DIY Shelf ijessup 2017-12-20 | My first idea for this project was to make a step stool so that I could reach the dishes on the top shelf. After many renditions of collapsable/folding things that were way too complicated for me to build, I settled on this: a shelf/stool hybrid. I used doubled up 3/4" plywood for added strength and "fancied" it up a bit by using copper pipe and inadvertently giving it the exact face that I made when resigning myself to build yet another plywood box. DIY Old School/New School Phone Holder ijessup 2017-07-26 | I miss the days of holding an ACTUAL phone receiver... so, I'm bringing it back! I made this phone holder out of a scrap piece of plywood that was just cluttering up my shop. With a bit more care put into it, this could be a pretty snazzy project. As it is, it came out great and I'm pleased with it. Also, I tried out doing an intro for the first time... well, you saw it. DIY Modular Rolling Table ijessup 2017-06-14 | I like tables. I like shelves. I like things that roll. I've always wanted to do a modular build that incorporated all three but I didn't know how to start. So, I sketched it out and modeled it and even attempted a 3D model. But, I can't sketch or model or 3D model... so, I just built it instead. If there is anything that I can impart to you, dear watchers, it is this: don't be afraid to just go for it. I rarely know what I'm doing when I start. A build like this is awesome because I had an idea and I carried it out with materials I had on hand. Repurposing and using leftover scraps can produce the most rewarding builds! DIY KINTSUGI ijessup 2017-03-27 | What do you do when your project "fails"? Fill it with resin and dust it with gold! When one of our concrete slabs cracked, we used the opportunity to try something which neither of us had done before. Kintsugi is the art of repairing a broken item (mainly pottery) with lacquer and gold dust. While this was not exactly the 'proper' method, it was fun to give something new a try. There was a lot of room for improvement and I'm looking forward to giving it another shot in the future.
