A big part of this AU is that when FP disconnects, in order to do so in a way that he effectively becomes independent from his structure, he has to leave almost all of his memories behind.SOMA AU: based on SOMA. this is after "rot world future" where the crew create a city built for and managed by iterators. it's decades in the future, and after Pebbles finally succumbs to his rot in the original story, there's a lot of sadness and grief but ultimately everyone copes. in this AU, however, WIF isn't able to manage and goes insane (another concept we joked about was that his actual body, the grub in his head, died from stress, essentially making him a soulless robot) he downloads Pebbles' memories, personality, etc, and makes a perfect clone. however, it doesn't take very long for the clone to realize he's a clone, and he kills himself. The process repeats over and over again. Imagine a closet in WIF's house full of dead pebbles clones lmaoanyway, as they're created, the clones become more and more makeshift as WIF loses his mind. it gets to the point where he's turning on their consciousness before they're even finished in his desperation to see his best friend. Pebbles (or rather, the last clone) makes the realization that this is never going to end unless he kills WIF and is forced to do so
