Gradius Walkthrough [Part 1]
updated
In celebration of the 30th Anniversary of a certain Disney cult classic, I've managed to recreate the finale song in 2 different versions (2A03 & YM2612, just as I did ELP / Dirty Pair in recent years). What you're about to hear is inspired by Tevin Campbell (as Powerline), featured just after Goofy & Max survive their disastrous cross-country road trip - and there's no better way of seeing any situation than... 'I 2 I'!

Based on the 2nd TV series that ran from the fall of '88 to the spring of '90 (and need I remind everyone that this was WAY BEFORE ALL THAT ETHAN HUNT BALLYHOO; nothing against Tom Cruise?!), this American-and-European-only adaptation of said series revolves around the efforts of the IMF (Impossible Mission Force), assembled by the returning Jim Phelps (the late Peter Graves) as they solve a kidnapping case orchestrated by a terrorist group by the name of the SINISTER 7. They've shanghaied both a well-known scientist and Shannon Reed (another femme-fatale IMF operative, portrayed by Jane Badler; thus replacing Casey Randall portrayed by Terry Markwell).
The 3 main agents you take control of are from the show: Max Harte (the also-late Tony Hamilton), Grant Collier (Phil Morris, son of the also-late Greg Morris) and Nicholas Black (Thaao Penghlis), and in true TMNT fashion - if one of them dies, you can still continue on...but it's an INSTANT GAME OVER IF THE ENTIRE IMF TRIO OF AGENTS GETS WASTED!!! At least there's infinite continues here unlike in TMNT, despite the fact that YOU HAVE TO GO THROUGH EVERY OBJECTIVE FROM SQUARE ONE!!!

Developed for SEGA by the already-defunct NuFX (the same people responsible for Taz-Mania & Beavis & Butt-Head also on Game Gear), SURF NINJAS - based on the 1993 New Line Cinema action-comedy film bearing the same title - revolves around 2 young LA surfers Johnny & Adam McQuinn (Ernie Reyes Jr. & Nicolas Cowan), who eventually find out that they are crown princes of Patusan, a coastal Asian kingdom (which is Thailand in reality), thereby reluctantly following their destinies - with the help of Zatch (portrayed by Ernie Reyes SR., "Johnny's" real-life dad), Iggy (a pre-SNL Rob Schneider) and Lieutenant Spence (Tone Loc) - the latter 2 of which aren't featured within - to dethrone the dark and devious Colonel Chi (portrayed by THE LATE, GREAT Leslie Nielsen, and expect to see him A LOT).

Here's yet another passion project of mine that's been stuck in my "mental think tank" up until now. What you're about to see is a historical, shot-by-shot reel of every pop-culture figure I've encountered in person throughout the last decade, if a hair over that - not to mention how much they've been influencing me throughout the span of my very existence.
Songs featured - YES' "Long Distance Runaround" / "Roundabout", except both were rearranged / recomposed from memory via Famitracker.
As is the case with last year, I've managed to compose & arrange the same song but with 2 different tracking programs. Case in point - what if ELP received both the NES (2A03) & Genesis (YM2612) treatments?!
Programs Used: Famitracker / DefleMask
Did I forget to mention that this is for @RachelFlowersMusic?
TEKKEN TAG TOURNAMENT (1999-2000): Introduced as a non-canon spin-off to the series, Tag Tournament features a handful of the same characters from the 2nd offering making unexpected returns, despite some of them being killed off in the main storyline, and Kazuya being the most heavily promoted character of this installment.
TEKKEN 4 (2001-02) - In regards to its much darker plot as opposed to its predecessor, scientists under the employ of Heihachi have captured most of Ogre's blood & tissue samples to splice with the former's genome for the ultimate aim of Mishima's immortality. Unfortunately, the experiment results in failure due to him not possessing the Devil gene, whereas his grandson Jin does despite having gone missing. Eventually, he learns that Kazuya's body with the Devil gene infused within is stored in the laboratories of a cutting edge biotech firm with the aim of making revolutionary advances in biogenetics research, the G Corporation. The company is eventually raided by the Tekken Forces, but all of them were subdued by the genetically-resurrected Kazuya himself days following the latter's apparent death. Unbeknownst to Heihachi, Jin was exiled in Brisbane through a self-imposed, self-teaching duty to re-learn traditional Karate, vowing NEVER to have "piss-all" to do with his Bloodline since the betrayal of his infamous grandpa - who's just recently announced the start of the 4th King of Iron Fist Tournament in order to lure them out, by the by.
TEKKEN 5 (2004-05) - G Corporation has just invaded the Honmaru Dojo, deploying numerous armies of Jack-4 machines while the Mishimas fend them off. As the fight ensues, Kazuya leaves his dad for dead while making his escape and the Jacks outnumber Heihachi via self-destruction while another mysterious ninja witnesses the incident, RAVEN, thus relaying the incident to his higher-ups. Heihachi's death is also-thus declared throughout the globe with everyone foreseeing the end of his massive conglomerate... that is until a shadowy entity from deep below the Honmaru takes over the King of Iron Fist Tournament.

What better way to commemorate the occasion by presenting the NES-inspired and Genesis-inspired covers of the show's iconic opening theme by the Rembrandts?! Although, granted, the NES' lifespan has already died out before the show aired, and the 16-bit fad in consoles was still reigning supreme while 32-bit / 64-bit were on the rise...all pointless rambling aside, ENJOY ONE AND ALL!
Based on the '60s Addams Family TV series (pre-dating the Paramount film duology by over 1/4 of a century), this brutally hard top-view adventure by Sunsoft (Blaster Master / Freedom Force / Batman & Batman - Return of the Joker / Journey to Silius / Gremlins 2 / Trip World / Gimmick!) puts you in control of the bumbling Uncle Fester (portrayed by the late Jackie Coogan) as he's out to exterminate the alien menace threatening his civilization by hauling ass not just through the streets, but also in the underground sewers, the 3D indoor buildings where the 5 "Alien Invaders" await, and finally within their UFO above the center of the city.
There's 2 ways Fester can attack: with his introductory Blaster Gun (that can be enhanced up to 8 levels) and later Morticia's whip (that can be enhanced to 4 different styles, akin to Simon's Quest by Konami). Other items and weapons Fester can use include Wednesday's Vice Grips (to reverse Fester's accidental slowdown), TNT from Pugsley, Potions for health-rejuvenation and temporary invincibility from Thing, Nooses from Grandmama & Lurch (serving as an instant screen-nuke) and the like - accessed via houses (as long as you've got the keys), and even going to hot dog stands to re-energize him (as long as you've got enough cash)...and let's not get ourselves started with the bulbs to reveal the overall underground sewer environments.
DIE AT ANY POINT THROUGHOUT THE GAME, YOU HAVE TO START ALL THE HELL OVER EVEN IF YOU DECIDE TO CONTINUE. Zelda 2 syndrome, anyone?!

For this next karaoke session, who could forget the mid-to-late 2000s emo hit from an already-disbanded pop rock project - hence its inspiration?
CONTENT WARNING - There may be a ton of cursing, heated outbursts, and another crucial element I'm best off keeping clandestine for the time being (which, despite my intention to limit any of the following, all are part of my comedic routine). However, I'll make every effort to keep this livestream as civil and well-organized as possible...BUT DON'T EXPECT ANY TRUE, SOLID PROMISES!
*Not only did he co-star in this as the Play-Tone A&R Representative, but also wrote and directed, and managed to involve both his wife and son as the Blue Spot waitress Marguerite and the City of Broadcasting page, respectively.
FUN FACT: This was in 'The Departed', also filmed there.
Therefore, why not send 'em out all "willy-nilly"? The first should jog everyone's memory for all the "emo-addicts" out there! Expect more like this throughout the season!
One day, his entire aquatic community is suddenly whisked away following a sudden storm...in a fit of curiosity, he must consult the Big Blue (a whale), and later the Asterite (an omnipresent organism resembling a DNA strand)...but must go through an unexpected myriad of trials & tribulations.

GUILTY GEAR X (2000-01) - Reports of a newly-discovered commander Gear have surfaced less than a year following the previous game's events, and another Holy Knights Tournament ensues amid concerns about another war breaking out. A bounty is placed on the head of Dizzy, worth 50000 World Dollars if she's terminated, yet her life's been spared by Sol-Badguy upon being deemed harmless and later discovered by his rival Ky Kiske, currently appointed as the United Nations' police chief, no longer the Sacred Order of Holy Knights' chief. The Jellyfish Pirates' own Johnny & May eventually adopt her as part of that gang, and Jam Kuradoberi manages to finance her restaurant by taking all the credit for Dizzy's disappearance and obtaining her reward.
GUILTY GEAR X2 (2002) - 2 weeks later, following Dizzy's next disappearance...the Gears and the previous tournament combatants are investigated by a mysterious outfit, The Post-War Administration Bureau. In response to their needs & ambitions, the Bureau manages to create an endless army of mechanical clones of Ky Kiske - hence, the "Robo-Kys". All of the legendary combatants are enveloped in the warped, uncontrollable reality of "That Man's" latest servant, punk-rocker-witch I-NO.
GUILTY GEAR ISUKA (2003-04) - Although everything's the same like the other offerings, this allows an epic 4-player battle mode (2-on-2, 3-on-1 or Everyone for Themselves), and Boost Mode, among other features.
GUILTY GEAR XX ACCENT CORE (2007) - The 3rd updated version of Guilty Gear X2, after #Reload & Sharp.

The song heard during this trailer is my take on the late Gustav Holst's "MARS", composed in Famitracker (as will the majority of every song in this series). Please refer to the provided speech after the title, and be sure to LIKE & SUBSCRIBE!!
KINGDOM HEARTS (2002) - A host of shadowy, sinister creatures, THE HEARTLESS, have destroyed the Destiny Islands on which Sora dwells alongside his companions (Riku & Kairi)...that is, after taking a raft away from the islands and later discovering the Keyblade to fend off his adversaries, and later traveling to various universes based on & inspired by numerous Disney films - hence why Sora eventually teams up with Mickey, Goofy and Donald, of course. In terms of chronology, it takes place after Birth by Sleep and before Chain of Memories, despite partially overlapping with 358/2 Days.
KINGDOM HEARTS 2 (2005) - Taking place AFTER Chain of Memories & 358/2 Days, Sora and his comrades' endless wars against the Heartless AND Organization XIII continue, as he learns of another race of beings including Nobodies (those who have lost their hearts to darkness, of course)...and the plot shifts to HIS OWN NOBODY, Roxas.

CAPCOM VS. SNK 2 - MARK OF THE MILLENNIUM (2001): Following the events of Millennium Fight 2000 (hence the previous CAPCOM VS. SNK), the political conflicts of both the Garcia Financial Clique and the Masters Foundation clash with each other - thereby culminating into a $1,000,000 fighting tournament involving not only the usual legends but also newcomers (a few including Rival School's Kyosuke Kagami, Samurai Shodown's Haohmaru, Final Fight 2's Maki, Last Blade 2's Hibiki, SF3's Yun Lee, Garou's Rock Howard - Geese's son, and others).
MARVEL VS. CAPCOM 2 - NEW AGE OF HEROES (2000-02): The earth and all life and civilization are on the verge of extinction - to which a female pirate by the name of Ruby Heart (hence one of this game's original characters, alongside Amingo, SonSon III and others) finds the source of an evil being, referred to the Armor of Erosion, ABYSS (hence the game's final 3-form boss). She then summons all of the greatest heroes to find said being - hence every Capcom and Marvel legend & newcomer alike (the latter involving Star Gladiator's Hayato, Resident Evil's Jill Valentine, Cable - Cyclops' son, Marrow / Sarah Rushman from X-Men, and the like). ABYSS' source of power turns out to be a huge black metal ball buried within itself.

By now, the very title that sparked an unforgettable, massive franchise should jog everyone's memory! Introduced in Japan as Demon Castle DRACULA (Akumajo DRACULA) for both the Famicom Disk System and MSX2 [aka Vampire Killer - hence Simon's iconic whip] in '86, CASTLEVANIA has you taking control of vampire hunter SIMON BELMONT (descendant of another VH), as he approaches the castle of Count Dracula, who reappeared a century following his defeat by Simon's ancestor. And, as expected - like the majority of most NES titles - EXPECT ABSOLUTELY NO MERCY FROM THIS WHATSOEVER.

Also, forgive the last 15 seconds of black at the end...
BANDAI NAMCO's TEKKEN series - which kicked off in '94 - revolves around the Mishima family, including long-time rival father-&-son HEIHACHI and KAZUYA, with the former adopting and raising the silver-haired orphan Lee Chaolan to further challenge his true son, and the latter having vengeance built up within himself after being thrown off a cliff during childhood, resulting in that iconic chest scar that awakens the "Devil Gene." He then travels the world and taking on other combatants through the "King of Iron Fist Tournament", the result of which ended in a draw against Paul Phoenix. Later on, the 2 pit themselves in an all-out familial battle, resulting in Kazuya NOT ONLY toppling Heihachi, but also chucking him down to that very same cliff during childhood - thereby claiming ownership of the Mishima Zaibatsu.
However, the plot doesn't stop there... the Zaibatsu has become corrupt thanks to Kazuya's illegal activities, including the countless deaths of critics and rivals by hired assassins, money extortion attempts and the smuggling of endangered species to perform genetic experiments due to that very same DEVIL GENE, but eventually gets convicted by Jun Kazama, an animal rights activist, for the latter-indicated offense. Over time, Heihachi is now enduring the same hardships as his son last time after emerging from that very same cliff while Kazuya announces the 2nd tournament, during and after which Jun & Kazuya couldn't help but be attracted to each other all because of a mystic force beyond her control. She then becomes pregnant with their child, thus leaving everything behind while Heihachi kicks serious ass at the Tournament before losing to Paul - despite the latter being replaced by Heihachi after being stuck in traffic. He and Kazuya confront each other once more, during which the latter transforms into the Devil due to that very same gene that's been active within him, but the internal conflict between Devil & this other entity "Angel" were too intense for Kazuya to handle, thereby resulting in Heihachi finally taking his son down. Jun then gives birth to hers and Kazuya's illegitimate son (JIN).
15 years later, the Tekken Force was established by Heihachi, dedicated to the Zaibatsu's protection. A squadron of soldiers from that brigade was dispatched to seek out an ancient Mexican temple for an excavation project - who were wiped out by this mysterious creature OGRE. Heihachi then intended to capture OGRE to harness its immense fighting power for his personal gain, but the creature starts all kinds of insanity by annihilating all the known worldwide martial artists. Meanwhile in Yakushima, the Kazama family have been living a quiet life (Jun and her son Jin)...which is eventually shattered due to OGRE's presence sensed by Jun, who ends up being its primary target. Of course one thing leads to another after Jin swears his vengeance against OGRE while being tasked to seek Heihachi - he's accepted by his grandpa, he befriends a Chinese Mishima High School classmate Ling Xiaoyu and her pet Panda. But unbeknownst to them, Heihachi announces the 3rd King of Iron Fist Tournament while using his grandson and everyone else as bait to lure the malevolent OGRE out into the open.

Over a week ago - on my 32nd, no less - at the Ruth Gordon* Ampitheater, me and a very faithful companion of mine have decided to put together yet another in the series of "comeback content". For those that remember my recent appearances on DIWhy The Show with Andrew Lowrey, this is one of my original aliases I've been embracing ever since its debut - hence, my "Patriotic Kabuki" ensemble. In true KISS fashion (step aside, Gene Simmons), this tutorial entails how every element of the face-painting ensemble is designed, one color-based coat at a time (white, red, blue and finally black), and are conveniently sped up for everyone's sake.
I've even invited a special guest co-star / DP for the ride who, before now, has more than truly made me feel like I belong due to the always-growing potential that I've long since possessed,
