While many surviving paintings have been attributed, there is very little known of him from records, and he tended not to sign his work. He is believed to be responsible for mainly religious art, but also painted portraits on commission. He sometime painted from classical sources, often setting the figures in modern-dress, or a contemporary domestic setting. In his lifetime he was successful; he had a large workshop, his work was sold internationally and he was especially popular in Spain.
Benson became popular as a source for pastiche with 19th-century painters, who are sometimes known as the "followers of Benson". In particular his many variations of the Magdalen and Sibilla Persica were further copied and became popular with contemporary buyers.

The museum is housed in the Palau Nacional, a huge, Italian-style building dating to 1929. The Palau Nacional, which has housed the Museu d'Art de Catalunya since 1934, was declared a national museum in 1990 under the Museums Law passed by the Catalan Government.
That same year, a thorough renovation process was launched to refurbish the site, based on plans drawn up by the architects Gae Aulenti and Enric Steegmann, who were later joined in the undertaking by Josep Benedito. The Oval Hall was reopened in 1992 on the occasion of the Olympic Games, and the various collections were installed and opened over the period from 1995 (when the Romanesque Art section was reopened) to 2004. The Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya (Museu Nacional) was officially inaugurated on 16 December 2004.
It is one of the largest museums in Spain.

Self-titled "the most Colombian of Colombian artists" early on, Botero came to national prominence when he won the first prize at the Salón de Artistas Colombianos in 1958. He began creating sculptures after moving to Paris in 1973, achieving international recognition with exhibitions across the world by the 1990s. His art is collected by many major international museums, corporations, and private collectors. In 2012, he received the International Sculpture Center's Lifetime Achievement in Contemporary Sculpture Award.
While his work includes still-lifes and landscapes, Botero has concentrated on situational portraiture. His paintings and sculptures are united by their proportionally exaggerated, or "fat" figures, as he once referred to them.
Botero explains his use of these "large people", as they are often called by critics, in the following way:
"An artist is attracted to certain kinds of form without knowing why. You adopt a position intuitively; only later do you attempt to rationalize or even justify it.

Van Dongen's early work was influenced by the Hague School and symbolism and it evolved gradually into a rough pointillist style.
From 1905 onwards – when he took part at the controversial 1905 Salon d'Automne exhibition – his style became more and more radical in its use of form and colour.
The paintings he made in the period of 1905–1910 are considered by some to be his most important works.[3] The themes of his work from that period are predominantly centered around the nightlife; he paints dancers, singers, masquerades and theatre. Van Dongen gained a reputation for his sensuous – at times garish – portraits of especially women.

He was born in Brussels, the son of a smith, and was initially self-taught. With the encouragement of his friend the artist Théodore Fourmois he later began studying at the Académie Royale des Beaux-Arts in Brussels with Balthazar-François Tasson (later Tasson-Snel) and exhibited at the Brussels Salon from 1843 to 1875, as well as at the Paris Salon and elsewhere.
He also wrote many travel books based on his extensive travels as far as India.

While his fame initially rested on his achievements as a painter, he also became known for his notebooks, in which he made drawings and notes on science and invention; these involve a variety of subjects including anatomy, astronomy, botany, cartography, painting, and palaeontology.
Leonardo's genius epitomized the Renaissance humanist idea, and his collective works compose a contribution to later generations of artists rivalled only by that of his contemporary Michelangelo.

He lived all his life in Florence, and from his late 30s was kept busy as the court painter of Cosimo I de' Medici, Grand Duke of Tuscany. He was mainly a portraitist but also painted many religious subjects, and a few allegorical subjects, which include what is probably his best known work, Venus, Cupid, Folly and Time, c. 1544–45, now in London. Many portraits of the Medicis exist in several versions with varying degrees of participation by Bronzino himself, as Cosimo was a pioneer of the copied portrait sent as a diplomatic gift.

Alexander Averin, 1952 | Plein Air painter
Russian painter Alexander Averin / Александр Аверин was born in Noginsk, near Moscow.
The main theme of Alexander Averin’s painting are genre scenes with charming Russian young ladies against blossoming meadows and gardens, shady river coasts and sea landscapes.
Averin learned his technique from the painter Dmitri Yorontnov at the School of Fine Arts "Souvenir de I'An 1905" in Moscow.
He is a member of the Moscow Painters Association, with whom he has exhibited on many occasions.
For many years he specialized in portraits.
His style is purely realistic, with a strong influence of the late 19th Century Russian painters, usually depicting domestic scenes in a soft twilight. His realistic painting is typical for the ones of the end of the 19th Century.
Like Pavel Fedotov, Averin's favourite painter, he works outside in the air, using surroundings to inspire the brush and compliment the work.

Gluckmann (Glickman), Grigory
(1898, Vicebsk – 1973, Los Angeles, USA)
Painter and graphic artist.
Studied at Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture (1917–1920). In 1922, he emigrated to Western Europe. He lived in Berlin, where he was a member of Spindle literary community. He worked for some time in Florence and then settled in Paris. During that period, he worked mainly in book graphics. Later he turned to easel painting. He exhibited his works at the Au-tumn Salon and at the Salon des Independants in Tuileries, had a number of personal exhibitions. In 1937, he was awarded a gold medal at the International Exhibition in Paris. With the beginning of World War II, he moved to the United States. In 1940–1957, he regularly arranged his personal exhibitions. In 1945, he received the award of the Art Institute of Chicago.
Traditions of Russian art techniques and knowledge of techniques of the European schools of painting were fused in Gluckmann’s works, where he used colorist achievements of old Venetian masters and French artists of the second half of the 17th – the early 18th centuries. Like the old masters, he mostly painted on wooden panels, overlaying paints to achieve the effect of depth and richness of colours.

Ballade no. 4, Op. 52
rédéric Chopin composed his fourth Ballade, Op. 52, in 1842 in Paris. He dedicated it to Baroness Rothschild, who had invited him to play in her residence and introduced him to the Paris aristocracy. According to Schumann, this Ballade was inspired by Mickiewicz's poem 'The Three Budrys'.

THE YOUNG GENERATION OF BIG-CITY DWELLERS, RADICAL NUDISTS, CONSIDERED STROLLING THE STREETS WITHOUT CLOTHES TO BE A REVOLUTIONARY ACT.
A new attitude to the human form was fostered at the courses in "biomechanics" for actors started by Meyerhold in petrograd in 19182 and in the laboratory of choreology opened at the Russian Academy of Artistic Sciences (RaKhN) in 19233. Those participating in such experiments were very serious about developing bodily expression. The essence of training and research was in differentiating between a "psycho-physical" naturalness and a "technical-artistic" embellishment of the body's plasticity, in treating them as opposites. It was as if the body was being reinvented.
In visual art the interest in nude studies following classical standards sometimes gave way to a total ignorance of the harmony and perfection of the human body and moved towards formal analysis. Thus, the pronounced focus on things "of old" - popular prints (the lubok), pagan idols, and stone-carved women (the baba) - was explained by attempts to "research" national identity.

Giotto's contemporary, the banker and chronicler Giovanni Villani, wrote that Giotto was "the most sovereign master of painting in his time, who drew all his figures and their postures according to nature" and of his publicly recognized "talent and excellence". In his Lives of the Most Excellent Painters, Sculptors, and Architects, Giorgio Vasari described Giotto as making a decisive break with the prevalent Byzantine style and as initiating "the great art of painting as we know it today, introducing the technique of drawing accurately from life, which had been neglected for more than two hundred years".

Violin Sonata no. 2 in A minor
Memling's portraits built upon the styles that he learned in his youth. He became very successful, and in 1480 was listed among the wealthiest citizens in a city tax list.
He married Anna de Valkenaere sometime between 1470 and 1480, and they had three children. Memling's art was rediscovered, and became very popular, in the 19th century.

Bach Goldberg Variations
The Goldberg Variations, BWV. 988, are a set of 30 variations for harpsichord by Johann Sebastian Bach. First published in 1741 as the fourth in a series Bach called Clavier-Übung, "keyboard practice", the work is considered to be one of the most important examples of variation form. It is named after Johann Gottlieb Goldberg, who may have been the first performer.
The Video Gallery of Art is a virtual museum and searchable database of World fine arts from the 3rd to 21th centuries.
The collection has some of the characteristics of a virtual museum.
The Video Gallery of Art is intended to be a free resource of art history primarily for students and teachers. It is a private initiative not related to any museums or art institutions, and not supported financially by any state or corporate sponsors.
We are convinced that such a collection of video digital reproductions, containing a balanced mixture of interlinked visual and textual information, can serve multiple purposes. On one hand it can simply be a source of artistic enjoyment; a convenient alternative to visiting a distant museum, or an incentive to do just that. On the other hand, it can serve as a tool for public education both in schools and at home.

Chopin Ballade no. 4, Op. 52
Frédéric Chopin composed his fourth Ballade, Op. 52, in 1842 in Paris. He dedicated it to Baroness Rothschild, who had invited him to play in her residence and introduced him to the Paris aristocracy. According to Schumann, this Ballade was inspired by Mickiewicz's poem 'The Three Budrys'. Chopin may be said to be the creator of the Ballade as a distinct genre, inspiring many musicians (such as Liszt and Brahms) to write their own Ballades. Though the pieces seem to be entirely different between them, analysts have shown that the Ballades share a number of traits, like a mirror reexposition (where the order of the first and second themes are inverted), and the so called ballade meter (a 6/8 or 6/4 meter). A distinguishing feature of this Ballade is its contrapuntal nature, which sets it aside from the others. Of the four, it is considered by many pianists to be the most difficult, technically and musically.

Chopin Etudes, Op. 25
Chopin's second set of Études was published in 1837, and dedicated to Franz Liszt's mistress, Marie d'Agoult, the reasons for which are a matter of speculation. Chopin's Études were the foundation of a new system of technical piano playing that was radical and revolutionary. They are some of the most challenging and evocative pieces of all the works in concert piano repertoire. Because of this, they remain popular and are often performed in both concert and private stages.
Adams grew up in central Indiana, but received his formal art training at the South Kensington School of Art in London and spent seven years in Germany, where he attended the Academy of Fine Arts, Munich. Adams formed the Muncie Art School with Forsyth, but the school closed after two years. Adams also assisted in planning and taught art classes at the John Herron Art Institute, which later became the Indianapolis Museum of Art and the John Herron School of Art in Indianapolis, and gave informal art lessons at the Hermitage, his studio-home near Brookville, Indiana.

In 1540, after the death of his father, he was brought up and trained in art by a close friend, often referred to as his 'uncle', the mannerist painter Agnolo Bronzino, whose name he sometimes assumed in his pictures.[1] In some ways, Allori is the last of the line of prominent Florentine painters, of generally undiluted Tuscan artistic heritage: Andrea del Sarto worked with Fra Bartolomeo (as well as Leonardo da Vinci), Pontormo briefly worked under Andrea, and trained Bronzino, who trained Allori. Subsequent generations in the city would be strongly influenced by the tide of Baroque styles pre-eminent in other parts of Italy.
Dieric Bouts (born c. 1415 – 6 May 1475) was an Early Netherlandish painter.
Bouts may have studied under Rogier van der Weyden, and his work was influenced by van der Weyden and Jan van Eyck. He worked in Leuven from 1457 (or possibly earlier) until his death in 1475.
Bouts was among the first northern painters to demonstrate the use of a single vanishing point (as illustrated in his Last Supper).
