Inspired by the original track and Piano Collections version, we decided to cover Tifa’s Theme and add our own flair to it. Although this tune is usually played in a slow and soothing manner, we created a more upbeat arrangement intending to depict both sides of Tifa’s personality: shy and badass. This is especially apparent in the contrast of mood between the piano and violin solo segments (i.e., the piano solo represents shyness, whereas the violin solo represents badassery). Along with the special powers of the bass and drums to add a funky rhythmic groove, here we have an arrangement called “Tifa Funk”! Our jazz fusion remix does the unthinkable-- expands the simple song into a 5 minute jazzy piece!Also, happy Valentine’s Day!This is our contribution to the “Operation: 1-UP” video game music cover album. All proceeds will go to John Means, a young teenager who is currently suffering from kidney failure. The money raised will help cover the cost of John’s medical expenses, including the dialysis treatments and kidney transplant.Because the title of the album is called "Operation: 1-UP", we decided to cover another song from Super Mario 64. We chose a song that's not often covered, but we're sure you'll remember "Inside the Castle Walls"!Even though this song is meant to be subtle background music, we created an arrangement to be much more dynamic. We incorporated viola to cover the lower harmonic notes, making more space for the piano. DRAGON ROOST ISLAND. Kristopher, our pianist, has a way with arranging these songs in fairly unconventional ways which seems to bring a new life to these songs which have been covered a seemingly large number of times. It's always a joy to get to be a part of these projects with such talented musicians! This rendition of Dragon Roost Island felt very proggy to me, and I loved being able to lay down some more hectic rhythmic ideas. This song jumps feels... 6/8 feel... 5/4 feel... etc. It was really fun! Pay close attention to those epic triplets masterfully played by Anthony! Also, I'm still amazed whenever a violist or violinist holds their instrument without any hands... is that weird? Joanna, I'm impressed. Anyways, if you're watching this/reading this, thank you very much! Compared to our previous upload (our Chrono Trigger Medley), this song is much more laid-back and groovy at the same time. This song is really fun to jam to!When listening to our version, I want you guys to focus on both the range and harmonies of the viola. Despite its seemingly limited range, the viola has the ability to create beautiful harmonizing lines. It also has the ability to hit surprisingly high notes with such an aesthetic tone!Of course, I want you guys to also focus on (and enjoy) the groovy bassline created by Anthony and the yummy drumming by Mitchell (aka "Mtchl"). This is krissalad speaking.I played this game over the summer, and not only did I fall in love with the game, but I fell in love with the music! I decided to ask Anthony and Mitchell to do a cool jazz-type trio set together. Spontaneously, we chose to open up a brand new channel and form a video game (VG) band called "Tetrimino," which means Tetris block!Our fourth band member is Joanna (also known as xclassicalcatx), but unfortunately she won't be appearing in this video because this band was kind of formed at the last minute. She will be, however, appearing in our next video!This video is also a tribute to Verdegrand, who (due to unforeseen circumstances) has disappeared from YouTube exactly a year ago from today.
