Final Chapter of FE6 Hard Mode Ranks

The strategies and unit deployment, while at times inspired by those of the ranked runner Melth - lparchive.org/Fire-Emblem-Binding-Blade-(by-Melth) - are ultimately of my own creation. These were recorded on mGBA and should be replicable on mGBA. The filter being used is mGBA's OpenGL filter, which desaturates and darkens the colors to something a little less eye-searing.
Ranking requirements for this chapter:
Turns: 10 (I took 2 turns, so I'm -55 total)
EXP: 50100 (total)
Funds: 150000 (total)
Power: 1001 (represents the combined total of all recruited units' levels; promoted units are their level + 20)
A Ranked Run is a run of Fire Emblem where you attempt to have 5 stars in every rank by the end of the game. Ranks can be viewed with the "Augury" option before a chapter (first available somewhere around ch11). Information about what is needed to achieve each rank can be found at serenesforest.net/binding-blade/miscellaneous/rankings/details/.
I also have several sub-goals:
* Finish the game with more than 150k in funds (this is what the funds ranking is supposed to be but for the bug mentioned in the Serenes Forest link).
* Get the best ending (fight Iduun & use the Binding Blade to finish her).
* Get a Roy/Lilina A support for the additional cutscene at the end.
* Recruit all characters. Recruit Cath in chapter 12. Recruit Hugh for full value.
* Visit every village, get every chest, and also visit every house even though they're useless.
* Steal all items worth a Lockpick or more, and steal as much else as is feasible.
* Raise all unpromoted units to (at least) level 20.
* Never use the Arena.
* Go to the A route on the Western Isles, the route that gets you Echidna and Lalum.
* Go to Ilia. (I wanted to do Sacae for the flex, but I'm not sure that's compatible with the "get all units to 20" rule without more RNG manipulation than I want to bother with.)
I'm also going to try to get at least one S rank user of every weapon type, but may have to settle for all but Light.
This chapter was played 'blind' because I didn't see it necessary to route what amounts to "hit legendary weapon button", which explains the occasional suboptimal moves with Lalum/Fae etc.
Very amused to break Fae's divinestone at the time I cap her, though.
Compared to averages, Fae has:
- 3.7 HP
- 0.1 Str
- 1.15 Skill
+ 1.65 Speed
+ 0 Luck
- 1.7 Def
+ 2.5 Res
Fae stats, who really cares
I showed off all units at the beginning of the video except the ones I bring to this chapter (which I'll show off next time). Here are the final comparison stats of every unit that is promoted, gained at least one level, and did not come to this chapter:
Marcus has:
+ 0.8 HP
- 0.5 Str
+ 0.6 Skill
+ 0.5 Speed
+ 0.6 Luck
- 0.3 Def
- 0.4 Res
He only gained 2 levels lol
Zelot has:
+ 0.25 HP
- 0.25 Str
- 0.2 Skill
- 0.2 Speed
- 0.15 Luck
+ 0.7 Def
- 0.15 Res
He only gained 1 level lol
Lance has:
- 1 HP
+ 1 Str
+ 2.75 Skill
+ 0.5 Speed
- 0.75 Luck
- 1 Def
+ 6.25 Res (????)
Nice Res bless, I guess.
Alan has:
+ 2.75 HP
- 0.25 Str
- 1 Skill
+ 2.75 Speed
+ 5 Luck
+ 0.75 Def
- 1.5 Res
I like the slightly higher Speed stat.
Cecilia has:
- 0.2 HP
+ 0.3 Mag
+ 0.1 Skill
- 0.5 Speed
+ 0.5 Luck
- 0.4 Def
- 0.5 Res
She gained 2 levels lol
Hugh has:
- 0.25 HP
- 1.3 Mag
- 2.3 Skill
- 1.95 Speed
+ 1.25 Luck
- 2.2 Def
+ 1.35 Res
Pretty average. Extra healing is nice though.
Melady has:
+ 0.5 HP
+ 0 Str
+ 0 Skill
+ 0 Speed
- 1.5 Luck
- 0.4 Def
- 0.1 Res
Hard to tell if she was blessed because three stats are capped lol
Zeiss has:
- 1 HP
- 1 Str
- 1 Skill
- 1 Speed
+ 0 Luck
+ 3 Def
+ 0 Res
I guess screwed overall? Not that matters, he's still pretty good.

Wolt has:
+ 2.8 HP
+ 0.4 Str
- 4.5 Skill
- 2.6 Speed
- 2.6 Luck
+ 3.2 Def
- 1.9 Res
Bad unit and he got screwed on top of that.

Chapter 23 of FE6 Hard Mode Ranks
This run, in a sense, uses RNG manipulation. The RNG of FE6 is static, which means that from a fresh reset, the same numbers are rolled to determine any action that uses RNG, such as whether an attack hits, crits, or misses; which stats are gained on a level up; which direction the enemies move on enemy phase; and which direction the arrow pointer moves if it has to redraw itself. I used this, along with savestates, to my advantage in my routing. This run is constructed by me making an action with the unit, observing the outcome of either the attack or the entire player phase, and deciding what to do afterward. If the outcome is successful or neutral, I would continue on from there. If the action failed, I would reload savestates and play with different enemy targets, movement orders, weapons, or placement until I got an outcome I liked. This means that this strategy is not at all safe: if I send Sophia who gets OHKO'd and doubled by an opponent to attack that opponent with a 43% hit rate, I'm doing it because I know in advance that she'll hit, so there's no risk of her taking a counter.
I recognize that this isn't everyone's cup of tea; I think a lot of people want to watch Fire Emblem content that seems a lot more properly random instead of "rigged", and while it is possible to SS-rank the game without using savestates or paying attention to RNG, I wasn't sure if my goal of getting all units to 20 would even be possible without rigging some actions in their favor (like the Sophia example above).
This series is largely intended as a proof-of-concept demonstration. At some point in the future, I would like to revisit ranked runs and play them live, without knowing what the RNG will do. But for right now I am just testing the game's limits.

The chests in this chapter work as follows:
3 chests will be manaketes and 3 will have elixirs. Whatever random number generation decides which is which is identical to what decides if a unit picks up a desert item, which means I can't actually route the whole chapter in advance since I won't know if I need to use RNs on attacking manaketes until I get there. Therefore, everything after the first chest Roy gets was played 'blind'. A rare occurrence in this otherwise perfectly structured run.

I brought Cecilia because I had an extra unit slot, and no units that I hadn't already promoted that I'd want to bring. In my previous run I was adamant about making sure I didn't use prepromotes after Marcus and Zelot in the early game, and while I kept the mentality this time, I simply didn't promote enough units to make that possible. Fir and Sue were strength screwed, Lilina (as a long term unit) was speed screwed, and no one else really stood out to me as being promotion-worthy.
That said, Hugh does promote, despite being aggressively average. More healers & Aircalibur users is just nice to have.
Regarding Galle: I like to leave him alive because I like to imagine he and Melady can still be together after the war :( her talk with him makes it seem like he is going to die and I want to prevent that!!!
Also, his AI is actually predictable. He and his squad, and I think some of the reinforcements, share an AI that I believe works as follows:
1) If Roy is in range, they will attack Roy.
2) If Roy is not in range, but could theoretically be attacked if the wyverns have infinite movement, they will surround the nearest unit without attacking. (This means that Roy cannot currently be rescued, and he has to have a path of empty tiles between the wyverns and him.)
3) If Roy cannot be attacked with the weapon the wyvern has, they will attack as normal enemies do.
Because Galle has a Spear, he can hit Roy from 2 tiles away. You'll notice that the turn the wyverns that were previously passive start to attack is the turn that Roy is blocked from north and south on the east side, but Galle doesn't attack because Roy is still targetable with a 2-range weapon. This is how I manipulate Galle.
Compared to averages, Lilina has:
- 3.55 HP
+ 0.75 Mag
+ 1.2 Skill
+ 0.35 Speed
+ 1.5 Luck
+ 2.1 Def
- 3.65 Res
I would have promoted her and used her long-term if she didn't end up with normal Lilina bad speed, but alas. I've seen the blessed Lilinas and they kick butt, but not this one.
Sue has:
+ 0.55 HP
- 1.7 Str
+ 1.55 Skill
+ 0 Speed
+ 0.5 Luck
+ 1.1 Def
- 2.85 Res
Strength screwed and really only saved by bows' flier effective damage. A shame, I would love to use her in endgame over Shin, but she just is usually not better.
Zeiss has:
- 1.4 HP
+ 0 Str
- 1.5 Skill
- 0.55 Speed
- 0.6 Luck
+ 1.75 Def
+ 0.35 Res
Average. Flying is nice, a defense stat is nice, and supporting with Miledy is nice, though.
Hugh has:
- 1.75 HP
- 0.5 Mag
- 1.5 Skill
- 0.25 Speed
- 0.25 Luck
- 1 Def
+ 1.25 Res
Also pretty average. I don't really have a lot of overall blessed units this run, huh?

Roy has:
+ 2.4 HP
+ 0.4 Str
- 1.5 Skill
- 1.6 Speed
- 0.4 Luck
+ 0.25 Def
+ 0.3 Res
Maybe a little below average, but perfectly serviceable for endgame once he gets the Binding Blade.

Power: 831 (represents the combined total of all recruited units' levels; promoted units are their level + 20)
* Never use the Arena.
I would have liked to have Lugh at C staves before starting the chapter to make my life easier with Restore, but oh well.
Also, we finally see the second triangle attack, which I promised earlier I would show off!
Compared to averages, Wendy has:
- 4.15 HP
+ 1.4 Str
+ 0.4 Skill
+ 1.4 Speed
- 0.55 Luck
- 0.7 Def
+ 0.1 Res
Having Speed that isn't utter garbage is helpful, I guess, but Wendy is still just not worth it. But you all knew that.
Noah has:
- 1.75 HP
+ 0.1 Str
+ 0.15 Skill
+ 0.1 Speed
+ 0.8 Luck
+ 1.1 Def
+ 0.7 Res
I guess he wouldn't have been an awful filler paladin, but he probably isn't doubling anything.
Lot has:
+ 1.4 HP
- 0.1 Str
+ 0.9 Skill
+ 2.05 Speed
- 1.1 Luck
- 0.8 Def
+ 0.45 Res
He's average now, but he had like 7 strength in chapter 18 and struggled to do significant damage. The Speed blessing is pretty funny though. He probably wouldn't be an awful unit to promote.
Dieck has:
+ 0.5 HP
+ 1 Str
- 2 Skill
- 1.5 Speed
- 2.25 Luck
+ 0 Def
- 0.25 Res
He's such a good early game unit but clearly struggles later on.
Shanna has:
- 0.55 HP
+ 2.3 Str
- 0.45 Skill
+ 0 Speed
+ 1.6 Luck
- 1.9 Def
+ 1.25 Res
Blessed, and I still just don't think she's a very worthwhile combat unit worth promoting.

Chapter 20 of FE6 Hard Mode Ranks

Only one armor knight remains to cap and then the saga of "oh god I have to train armors" will be over! Cath and Chad make an appearance to steal items, but this chapter conveniently also has a great training opportunity for them both.
Compared to averages, Bors has:
+ 0.9 HP
+ 0.3 Str
+ 2.3 Skill
- 0.6 Speed
- 0.5 Luck
- 1.65 Def
- 1.9 Res
Very average all around. Which is not a good unit.
Chad has:
+ 0.85 HP
+ 2.5 Str
- 2.5 Skill
+ 0 Speed
+ 0.6 Luck
- 2.75 Def
+ 1.15 Res
Chad is surprisingly decent at combat even with average growths.
Cath has:
+ 3 HP
+ 0 Str
+ 0.25 Skill
+ 0 Speed
- 2.5 Luck
- 1.25 Def
+ 2 Res
Still not a good unit, but at least capable of beating brigands.

Chapter 19 of FE6 Hard Mode Ranks
This run, in a sense, uses RNG manipulation.

Weird Gonz. He isn't very good, but I don't really have a better Armads option.
Trec has:

Wade has:

+ 0.4 Speed

You'd think this would be a blessed Wade, but he's just still not a good unit.

+ 1.05 Skill
+ 0 Speed
- 0.2 Luck

dancer unit lol

Pretty average. Still need an Apocalypse user, though.

Compared to averages, Lugh has:
- 0.5 HP
+ 1.4 Mag
+ 1.5 Skill
+ 1.5 Speed
- 1.65 Luck
+ 0.15 Def
- 1.7 Res
Pretty blessed where it counts!
Ogier has:
- 1.45 HP
+ 1.2 Str
+ 0.9 Skill
+ 1.35 Speed
+ 3.65 Luck
+ 0.6 Def
+ 4.45 Res
VERY blessed overall. Excellent!
Miledy has:
- 0.5 HP
+ 0 Str
+ 0 Skill
+ 2.5 Speed
- 1.5 Luck
- 3 Def
- 0.5 Res
Weird Miledy. I like Speed though.

Chapter 15 of FE6 Hard Mode Ranks
---
The strategies and unit deployment, while at times inspired by those of the ranked runner Melth - lparchive.org/Fire-Emblem-Binding-Blade-(by-Melth) - are ultimately of my own creation. These were recorded on mGBA and should be replicable on mGBA. The filter being used is mGBA's OpenGL filter, which desaturates and darkens the colors to something a little less eye-searing.
Ranking requirements for this chapter:
Turns: 20 (I took 19 turns, so I'm -15 total)
EXP: 28100 (total)
Funds: 90000 (total)
Power: 536 (represents the combined total of all recruited units' levels; promoted units are their level + 20)
* Never use the Arena.
* Go to the A route on the Western Isles, the route that gets you Echidna and Lalum.
* Go to Ilia. (I wanted to do Sacae for the flex, but I'm not sure that's compatible with the "get all units to 20" rule without more RNG manipulation than I want to bother with.)

Compared to averages, Thea has:
- 0.2 HP
+ 1.2 Str
+ 0.6 Skill
+ 0 Speed
- 0.8 Luck
+ 0.2 Def
- 0.4 Res
The Str blessing, though slight, is enough to make her worthwhile imo.

Fir and Rutger finish their training. Notice Rutger started at level 12 and made it to 20 and still had a few enemies to beat. This chapter is excellent for getting absurd amounts of EXP on any sword user. Do recommend.
Thea, Miledy and Raigh also get a lot of experience... preparing for them to promote pretty soon. Unsure if I'll promote Lugh or Raigh first, but they're both getting promoted at least. Thea got a couple lucky Strength levels, plus promoted flyers are good, and Miledy is Miledy.
Sophia also managed to pick up 6 and a half levels in this chapter alone! That's impressive, I'd say.
Compared to averages, Rutger has:
- 1.8 HP
- 1.8 Str
+ 0 Skill
+ 0 Speed
+ 2.2 Luck
- 1.2 Def
- 0.2 Res
Pretty average.
Fir has:
+ 0.75 HP
- 3.75 Str
+ 0 Skill
+ 0 Speed
+ 1.5 Luck
- 0.85 Def
- 0.8 Res
I would have promoted her if she was screwed in any stat other than Strength :(

Otherwise, I'm not sure there's a whole lot to say here, other than pointing out that Raigh's perfect level after killing the boss was not rigged at all. This chapter is just a big EXP fest for so many of my units.
Okay, I lied. I do have one more thing to point out and that's Saul's absurd 22 speed. I love this unit.

I rigged a couple Mag/Speed levels to ensure he'd be decent at combat (especially doubling), so this is about what was expected.
Meanwhile, Bors continues to get disappointing levels overall. Lilina got Speed again, I guess that's nice.

Wendy taking out all the cavs with Horseslayer is terrific and it shows why Horseslayer is actually integral to developing the armors. I'll probably be burning at least one Hammerne use on it later. She got lucky with a couple of her levels too.
Gonz however didn't get as many offensive levels as would be expected for his growths. Neither did Shin. Unfortunate.
I'm really proud of how I approached this map and enjoy the novel way I got Klein recruited and all the green units rescued. I hope you enjoy watching it too!

Most of those low% hits on the fighters at the end of the chapter weren't rigged lol. I just got lucky.
Also got lucky with the boss kill. Just decided to see what would happen if I had Fir hit him with Wo Dao, got double crits, and decided to roll with it.

Turns: 25 (I took 19 turns, so I'm -11 total)
EXP: 14100 (total)
Funds: 60000 (total)
Power: 251 (represents the combined total of all recruited units' levels; promoted units are their level + 20)
* Never use the Arena.
A lot of low% crits in this chapter! I didn't rig them and I didn't anticipate them, they just kind of happened.
Barthe never having a hit rate above 70 is so hilariously sad.

The first turn was inspired by Melth's T1 in his LP, although I used Bors instead of Dieck.
This chapter was streamed on the r/FE server and I received some community feedback in helping to construct a good clear, and while this one does have a lot of cases where my units are hitting on below-70 hit rates, it's kind of the nature of Chapter 7 that you have to get lucky with hit rates if you want a very solid clear.

Lance finally levels strength, but is it enough to catch up in time?! We will see. Shanna getting a couple strength levels was nice though.
The 90% miss the mage had on Shanna was not rigged. It just happened that way lol.

Sorry for the delay. I finished routing the run only to realize my notes were actually unusable, so now I have to redo the whole thing lmfao
Bors and Wolt getting what scarce exp they can before they're benched for a while. It comes at the detriment of my actual good units like Alan and Lance, but... I mean... Lance still hasn't leveled strength. Don't like it.

* Never use the Arena.
Wade and Lot get a C support, which will do little to help them in the long run, and maybe even the short run as well. Axe accuracy is just that bad.
This is where I start to abandon some of my previous attempts to use "safe" strats. Obviously Bors is still using vulns to ensure his survival, but the axe bros take a lot of uncertain hits at low health. It will only get worse as the run goes on!!

Chapter 3 of FE6 Hard Mode Ranks

The sequel to my FE7 Intended Ranks run, it's time to start on my FE6 run! Like the FE7 run, I'm trying to get all unpromoted units to level 20, so units like Bors and Wolt have to be used here in this chapter to get any sort of fighting chance at doing anything in the future. In this case, Bors... doesn't do as much as expected due to accuracy issues and WTD. Oh well, we'll find time for him to do things later.

Bors and Wolt getting what scarce exp they can before they're benched for a while. It comes at the detriment of my actual good units like Alan and Lance, but... I mean... Lance still hasn't leveled strength. Don't like it.

Turns: 12 (I took 10 turns, so I'm -2 total)
EXP: 300 (total)
Funds: 6000 (total)
Power: 7 (represents the combined total of all recruited units' levels; promoted units are their level + 20)
* Never use the Arena.
* For the first ball: You want to hit the fourth balloon that will come in on the top conveyor, which will be blue. To time it, try to prepare so that you hit your Tack-Q right before the blue balloon scrolls on screen at the right. The timing here is a little flexible (as shown in the video) due to the balloons' large hitboxes, but you probably need to wait a half second longer than you think you do in order to time it right. This is probably the hardest one of the three to get right.
* For the second ball: Immediately after hitting the first ball, head to the second ball and hit it as soon as you walk in front of it. If you are early on the first ball, it's possible to be barely too early on the second, so you may want to delay your input for a split second if you fear that (which I did in this video, it's hard to tell though).
* For the third ball: After you hit the second ball, you will see 3 red balloons come across the bottom conveyor (one of which will already be on screen when you hit the second ball), followed by a blue balloon. You want to hit the blue balloon, which should be lined up with the top conveyor such that you will hit two blue balloons simultaneously. I don't recall ever having a problem to where I would hit the first blue balloon but not the second, the timing is flexible here, and it should be easier to predict the blue balloon's timing than it was on the first ball. You can hit your Tack-Q after the blue balloon starts scrolling on screen and it will work.
Hopefully this helps all the hammos out there who struggle(d) with this minigame!

Final Chapter of FE7 HHM Intended Ranks
The strategies used for Hector Mode, while often inspired by those of the ranked runner Melth - lparchive.org/Fire-Emblem-Blazing-Sword-(by-Melth) - are ultimately of my own creation. These were recorded on mGBA and should be replicable on mGBA, though perhaps not on a cartridge copy; I've heard that the public ROM differs from the cart copy, but I don't know exactly how.
Ranking requirements for this chapter (used rankings):
Turns: 10 (8 for part 1, 2 for part 2)
EXP: 3000 (2800 for part 1, 200 for part 2)
Funds: 80% of 150000, so 120000 (all from part 1)
Ranking requirements for this chapter ('intended' rankings):
Turns: 12 (10 for part 1, 2 for part 2) (I took 6 turns total, so I end the run with 12 extra turns)
EXP: 3050 (2800 for part 1, 250 for part 2)
Funds: 80% of 150000, so 120000 (all from part 1)
A Ranked Run is a run of Fire Emblem where you attempt to have 5 stars in every rank by the end of the game. Ranks can be viewed with the "Fortune" option before a chapter, or in "Battle History" from the main menu, which shows you the data for each difficulty's highest rank. Information about what is needed to achieve each rank can be found at serenesforest.net/blazing-sword/miscellaneous/rankings/.
Hector mode uses the data for Eliwood mode. Whether this was intentional or not, we aren't sure, but the game does contain unused values that correspond with Hector mode. This run is an attempt to complete a ranked run of the game with the "intended" ranks. I am using a modded ROM that uses the unused values for ranks, but no other modifications have been made. The unused data for Hector Normal Mode can be found at pastebin.com/2TPNzcUR and Hard Mode at pastebin.com/E9qKxwME.
I also have several sub-goals:
* S-Rank Lyn Mode.
* Unlock all chapters. This includes 19xx which means Nils must be leveled to 7 in Lyn Mode.
* Recruit all characters. This includes Farina, who costs 20000 gold, and Karla, who requires promoting Bartre.
* Steal as much as possible.
* Raise all unpromoted units to (at least) level 20.
* Never use the Arena.
* Go to Linus' version of Four-Fanged Offense.
* Go to Jerme's version of Pale Flower of Darkness and recruit Karel.
I bet you also weren't expecting to see Karla and Karel here. I love how this run gets me to use everyone.
Also, in Genesis, it was pointed out to me that Florina landed on a chest and didn't open it. I intended to open it. If I had, though, I would be 1 chest key short on this chapter, since the chest key used here is a 2-use key (out of 5) used to open 2 chests. Matthew stole a couple of 1-use chest keys back in Night of Farewells, so I could have just put one of them on Merlinus and had Karla take it out after getting the first chest.
There isn't much to say here, though. Other than the novelty of Karel and Karla, it's just a bunch of swordies hitting axe guys and getting stupid amounts of crits and EXP.
I didn't intend for Florina to crit Kishuna. I wanted to take out the rest of the berserkers. But I also didn't care enough to re-record. Oh well, a few extra turns granted this way anyway.
For those keeping track at home, though, I got Karla 7 levels here. I love this dumb map.
As this is Karel and Karla's last appearance, here's their stat comparisons:
Karel 14
-0.2 HP
-0.8 Str
-2 Skill
+1 Spd
-0.8 Luck
-0.6 Def
+1.1 Res
He did what he needed to, not much to say.
Karla 12
+1.8 HP
+0.25 Str
+1.85 Skill
+1.15 Spd
+2.2 Luck
+0.3 Def
+0.6 Res
She's above average in every single stat! I don't think any other unit has been so far. That's pretty funny. GOAT Karla over here
Merlinus 10
+0.2 HP
+0 Str
+0 Skill
+0 Spd
+0 Luck
-0.2 Def
+0.4 Res
... it's Merlinus. Although, since I deployed him on every map and he never died, I think 20/10 is the max level he can be.

One of the reasons I wanted to promote Sain is because, if I didn't have him to bring, who else could I have brought? My only other promoted units are Bartre, Karel, and Karla. Bartre's unfortunately gotten pretty speed-screwed and thus can't do much, and Karel and Karla both I plan to use later. Promoting Sain gives me an additional useful unit who can gain a lot of EXP here. Certainly he's better able to handle this chapter than Isadora, unfortunately for her. But I think you'll be surprised at the contributions of Marcus, Isadora, and Geitz here.
Dart and Dorcas getting a lot of exp in the middle area isn't as hard as you might expect. I've gotten Nino a lot of levels there before in easier modes.
Canas is getting pretty close to level 20 promoted.........................!
Hawkeye wasn't supposed to get hit by the valkyrie to go to 3 HP. I don't know where I did something wrong, but I clearly did, so Pent had to Physic him and I had to play differently from there on.
lol @ Renault doing 1 damage to a falco with lightning. gotta love light magic
Also I'm very amused with myself for the strategy of having Dart pick up the village by crossing the river.
Vaida killing a valk with a Brave Lance was also a mistake. She was supposed to use something else and I think she was supposed to kill someone else, but I clicked too fast and thus wasted a Brave Lance on something that would have died to anything else. Fun!
Sadly I wasn't able to get Renault a single level :( I was hoping I could claim to have gotten at least 1 level on everyone except Athos, but alas, it was not to be. Not for lack of trying, though. Renault was very helpful.
Dorcas:
+0.4 HP
+2.8 Str
-0.8 Skill
-0.4 Spd
+0.35 Luck
+3.75 Def
+1.45 Res
Surprisingly blessed overall.
Dart:

-1.8 Str
-2.4 Skill
-1.2 Spd

Bad unit here. Watching him facetank wyverns and slowly rise to the challenge was fun though.
Geitz 10
+2.05 HP
-0.5 Str
+0.9 Skill
+1.2 Spd
+1.2 Luck

He was fun to use, and the extra Speed was nice.
Isadora 4
-0.25 HP
-0.9 Str
-0.05 Skill
-0.5 Luck
-1.35 Luck
+0.4 Def
+2.25 Res
I guess she got 3 for 3 on 25% Res. I didn't even notice.
Marcus 9
+0.8 HP
-1.4 Str
+0 Skill
+1 Spd
+0.6 Luck
-1.2 Def
+0.2 Res
Average Jagen. I love that I got use out of him in Victory or Death though.
Vaida 11
+0.8 HP
-0.9 Str
-0.5 Skill
+0.2 Speed
-0.6 Luck
-0.5 Def
-0.3 Res
She got two levels. There wasn't much variation possible here for her.
Hawkeye 10

-2.4 Str
+3.2 Skill
+1.5 Spd
+1.6 Luck
-1.2 Def

With so many deployment slots, though, I have a lot of room for other units. Pent is necessary as a second staffer. Louise supports Pent and has good use due to being able to hit stuff through the wall. Hawkeye is a beast, and Geitz is really just filler lol
Yes, I really did sent Eliwood down to the left with an Iron Rune and expect him to do well. No, it didn't work. Laugh if you will. You can see I realized it wouldn't work when I sent Geitz over to help.
Kent using Brave Lance was pretty cool if you ask me. The fact that he's fast enough to wield it all 4 times and usually strong enough to get kills with it is so nice.
I'm very amused by the maneuver I used to get Denning trapped, where each unit killed a unit that allowed another to move into place.
For those keeping track at home, we have five unpromoted guys left to cap!

I love promoting healers for the meme. I would totally have promoted her here in any other run and laughed about bishop Serra.

Also, surprise Sain promotion out of nowhere! This was actually not in my original plan for the game. However, my first attempt at the run was a few levels short of meeting the requirement. Since Heath and Florina came to Night of Farewells instead of Fiora and Farina, they're also higher-leveled than they were in that failed run. I crunched my Funds rank and realized I had enough to promote an extra unit. While lots of unit types would have worked for this, I settled on Sain because a) I wanted a sword unit in particular for something going forward, b) he has a mount, c) he has those funny minmaxed stats, and d) it honestly would seem like a waste to bench him after all the effort that went into him in Lyn mode. So welcome back Sain as a team member with three chapters left in the game.
I don't need all the elixirs I buy, but the best way to improve funds rank here is to buy things with the Silver Card using every piece of gold you can. I think ending up with 12 left is pretty good.
Bartre 5
-0.7 HP
-2 Str
-0.7 Skill

Sadly, Bartre remained unlucky to the end.

Otherwise, there isn't much to say. I got everything except the Pure Water and only had to drop a single Vulnerary, which is pretty cool. I got bad luck when it came to the Kaim fight, though. If I had gotten one crit, or if Hector had one more point of strength, I could have completed the map at least a turn earlier, but sadly my luck was poor there.

Pent and Louise are here because a) I want an extra healer and restore user, and Serra is close to capping and can't fight besides and b) I really just want to get all of Louise and Pent's talk convos for some reason. Which means Louise gets to come to this chapter, even though other units might be better. Oh well!!!!
I'm rather partial to using Merlinus to equip Farina to kill the druid. I could have given her those weapons from the beginning, but I didn't, so it was pretty cool when I got to that part and realized I could still make it work with Merlinus. I also use Merlinus to equip Vaida later in the chapter, too. Uses for Merlinus!
I'm also quite amused that using Barrier on an injured Farina to let her tank monks is better than healing her.
Lucius face-tanks wyverns for 4 levels. That's what I meant when I said it was dumb. He literally cannot take more than 1 hit and sometimes not even 1. It's just FE7 dodge tank at work and I'm sure you are screaming obscenities at me for it. Enjoy the show!
Florina gets slept, she's too far away to do much with, so I just... leave her there. She starts out with 2 EXP when she goes over there and when she wakes up she has 45. She got nearly half a level from just sleeping on the battlefield. This run is dumb.
The reason capped Hector kills a wyvern is because, if he doesn't (and enemy phase starts on the same RN), Lucius will die to the very last wyvern to attack him. It'd be a shame if that happened, so I just had Hector kill the offending wyvern and then changed the rest of my player phase to ensure enemy phase starts on the same RN (which is why nobody attacked). Lucius lives!
I made a mistake in where Vaida dropped Florina. You can see me try to reach her with Ninian and realize I screwed up. From that point on, I'm having to improvise. It's part of why Lucius and Farina suddenly start doing things despite being capped, and why I check a whole bunch of damage range stuff. It worked out, I guess.
Fiora:

Farina:

Lucius:

Even after all that, Lucius is pretty average. I think he's a really fun unit to use anytime. I love his speed.

* S-Rank Lyn Mode.
* Never use the Arena.
* Go to Linus' version of Four-Fanged Offense.
* Go to Jerme's version of Pale Flower of Darkness and recruit Karel.
This chapter is long, boring, and turtle-y. But it features 5 guys capping, Nino getting a ton of EXP, and Bartre getting to level 5, so can't be all bad, right?
Originally I wanted to bring Fiora and Farina over Heath and Florina for additional EXP but in practice my team was just too scrubby to do anything meaningful. Heath and Florina were great for setting up kills though, especially on wyverns, and tough enough to not be threatened by long-range magic or ballistas most of the time.
Matthew needs the light brand to do anything worthwhile. 6 strength is simply too low to rely on here. It's pretty fun seeing how much I'm able to do with it, though.
Rebecca getting her last level by taking potshots at promoted guys to soften them up for others is really funny and anticlimactic (but simultaneously #ThisRunInANutshell)
Things you can do with a ballista: take a unit and drop them while riding the ballista. This run has been mad interesting for ballistas and if you don't think so you're wrong
The thief not being able to access the chest because someone keeps standing on it was unintentionally but really, really funny.
Yes, everyone really did get stuck in the water and have to deal with it for 2 turns. This chapter is boring. At least I set up things for them to do while stuck.
The noticeable audio cut/"State loaded" moment is because I disconnected my controller while recording, knew I couldn't fix it quickly, but didn't want to restart the recording. I made a save state so I could close the emulator and recording, and then loaded when I resumed.
Canas sleeping a thief here was an excellent idea suggested by KrashBoomBang when I complained about the thieves on this map.
The Erk/Priscilla support never comes back. I just figured it was funny to do it.
Jaffar's Silencer wasn't planned, but I actually really wanted it to get Jaffar more EXP, so I was very glad when it happened.
After that, Canas is really just using Physic for staff & wexp.
Compared to level 20 averages:
Guy:
-1.75 HP
-0.1 Str
+0 Skill
+0 Spd
+1.35 Luck
-0.55 Def
-2.25 Res
Pretty average.
Rebecca:
-1.4 HP
+0.4 Str
+0.5 Skill
-1.4 Spd
-1.5 Luck
+2.15 Def
-1.7 Res
Also pretty average, and after all that time rigging early level ups to let her do anything. Archers suck.
Hector:
-0.1 HP
-2.4 Str
+0.45 Skill
+2.35 Spd
-2.7 Luck
-4.5 Def
+0.25 Res
Holy heck Hector is low on Defense. At least he got Speed I guess??
Matthew:
-6.5 HP
-1.4 Str
+2.8 Skill
+0 Spd
+4 Luck
+2.5 Def
+0.4 Res
What a weird Matthew.
Erk:
+0.65 HP
+0.4 Str
-2.6 Skill
+2.5 Spd
+0.3 Luck
+0.2 Def
+4.4 Res
What a weird Erk, too. Wish I could have promoted him with that Speed.
Priscilla:
+4.35 HP
-0.8 Mag
-5.5 Skill
-0.8 Spd
+0.95 Luck
-0.55 Def
-1.5 Res
What a weird Priscilla. I think she ate Matthew's HP.

Chapter 28x of FE7 HHM Intended Ranks
The strategies used for Hector Mode, while often inspired by those of the ranked runner Melth - lparchive.org/Fire-Emblem-Blazing-Sword-(by-Melth) - are ultimately of my own creation. These were recorded on mGBA and should be replicable on mGBA, though perhaps not on a cartridge copy; I've heard that the public ROM differs from the cart copy, but I don't know exactly how.
Ranking requirements for this chapter (used rankings):
Turns: 28
EXP: 2250
Funds: 80% of 94000, so 75200
Ranking requirements for this chapter ('intended' rankings):
Turns: 28 (I took 33, so I'm -12 overall)
EXP: 2950
Funds: 80% of 95000, so 76000

Why Louise? Because I like fielding her when I field Pent. That's literally it. I have no doubt someone like Marcus or even someone like Raven or Lucius or a flyer would have been better here. I'm just weird about Pent and Louise tbh
Florina surviving two hits from Maxime after rescuing Kent is pretty funny... granted she had a Ninis' Grace but I still think that's just amusing
As you can see Ninian gets tons of mileage this chapter. She's a great way to get EXP on awful units; unfortunately I don't get to field her every map because I need to bring so many scrubs, but for those with a less tight schedule she can really help out with grinding. But I'm sure you all knew that, especially since y'all probably use arena, unlike me.
Ninian originally used Filla's Might on Lowen to let him kill the hero. Until Lowen got a convenient crit.
I'm rather proud of the maneuver where Kent gives Jaffar to Lowen before taking out the archer. I thought that was pretty clever.
I'm also very amused by the grand rescue chain that gets Nino all the way to the left side and then lets her attack too!
Canas' Afa's Drops already seem to be putting in work. Florina and Pent both got awesome level ups this chapter too, though.
Compared to averages, Lowen has:
-1.2 HP
-1.4 Str
+3.6 Skill
+0.6 Spd
+3 Luck
-1.2 Def
-0.4 Res
Wish those blesses could have been in speed or something. Ah well.
