In this video I use an old Vivanco SC-112 CD-to-phono adapter as a phono preamp tester. This adapter makes an frequency curve, which is that what happens when records are made; the bass is reduced and the treble is increased. The phono preamp does the opposite. The Vivnco SC-112 also attenuates the input signal so that the phono preamp will not be overloaded. I monitored the phono preamp output of a stereo receiver with an AC voltmeter, and the response of the stereo receiver was basically flat (constant) at frequencies from 20 to 20,00 Hz. Units like this adapter can sometimes be found used on eBay or circuits can be found on the Internet if one searches for "inverse" or "reverse" RIAA. Might be a handy, inexpensive testing gadget to have.
