Out and about Walking in Blockley
Blockley is a sizeable Cotswold village situated about 3 miles northwest of Moreton-in-Marsh. At the last census it had a population of just over 2,000. In the early to mid 1800's when the wool trade was on the decline the area turned to the silk trade to generate a source of income but then after 1860 a tax was imposed on silk imports which slowly brought the six silk mills in the village to a stand still.
Blockley has its own parish church, the church of St Peter & St Paul. The church is of a Norman era construction. There are public houses in the village which is The Crown Inn & Hotel and the Great Western Arms.
