Vicki Dobbs Beck is the VP of Immersive Content Innovation at Lucasfilm and ILM. She is a veteran entertainment executive with more than 30 years of experience driving innovation and digital transformation in support of storytelling. In 2015, she co-founded Lucasfilm and ILM's award-winning Immersive Storytelling Studio, previously named ILMxLAB, and has since been at the helm pioneering innovation in immersive storytelling.
Using technologies like virtual, augmented and mixed reality, ILM aspires to create connected, cross-platform experiences that transform places, spaces and our daily lives as we transition from story-telling, one way communication, to this much bigger idea of story-living where you're in a world, making meaningful choices that drive the narrative forward.
We had the immense pleasure of hosting Vicki as our 2025 Explorer in Residence.
About “This is Immersive” Video Series
“This is Immersive” is a video playlist focused on providing expert insights in defining the field of immersive. Our goal is to highlight the variety of disciplines working towards promoting, designing and developing immersive as experiences that are intimate, experiential and interactive with an audience. This series was designed to be a useful resource for faculty and students interested in this subject.
Texas Immersive Institute (TXI) is a program within the Moody College of Communication at the University of Texas at Austin focused on empowering storytellers to design participatory experiences that harness emerging technologies and impact the world.
