Happy 69th Wedding Anniversary, Mom & Dad! 8/29/09 grimscribe126 2008-08-27 | From Jim Hallowes: In 1990, I'd been hired to produce and direct a TV spot with President Ronald Reagan to be shot at his offices in the Century City after he'd left the White House. I arrived there in the prestigious Fox Plaza building in Century City and after clearing security we were escorted into the elevator, and with the swipe of the guard's special magnetic card we were zooming towards the penthouse, not stopping at any other floors along the way. The doors opened into the former President's office, there it was...sitting on the desk...the famous jar of jellybeans he was known to be so fond of. There was also a large American flag, bald eagle statue, and other trappings from his two terms in office. It sort of made me feel as if I was in the White House itself. After being introduced, I said "Great office you have here Mr. Reagan." and he shot back "You'd never know it from the movie they shot here!" He then shouted out the door "What movie they shoot here?!" And the response "Die Hard! with Bruce Willis!" came back. He went on to tell us how he'd moved in, right after they'd finished filming the movie. In fact, if you're curious, there's a great shot of the Fox Plaza building on the "Die Hard" video label, and right there where the explosion is, is where Reagan's offices were. You might want to check it out next time you're in a video store. I was happy to be at the 20th Anniversary screening of "Die Hard" just a few weeks ago over at the Academy Theater. Time sure flies, doesn't it? I'm happy to say the shoot with the Ronald Reagan went very well, and when we were done, the former President asked if there was anything else he could do for us, and I said "Well, my parents' 50th Wedding Anniversary is coming up, would you be willing to record a greeting to them?" He said, "Yup, I'll be happy to!" So, here is that videotaped Anniversary greeting. I played it at a party I threw for my parents and they renewed their vows on their 50th Anniversary. And note, because I didn't want to have to rewind the video tape you'll see I edited it together to play twice and on the second round, if you listen closely, you'll hear me talking to the President, which my parents especially enjoyed.
