Random Making Encounters
Book nooks need books for their nooks. This book nook DIY tutorial is a really quick way to make miniature books that have a real feel to them.
This is loosely base on a bit of how-to from Josh Williamson. All similarities end after the cover-I don't have nearly the attention to detail he has!

Everyone will need to make fake rocks at some point in their lives. Trust me! The classic myth is you can scrunch up some tinfoil, pour some plaster in, and get realistic rocks. Uh... sorta. With just a bit more work... not a lot... you can get amazing, realistic results for your Dungeons & Dragons terrain, book nooks, model railroads, or scale dioramas. Fer realz!

For those interested in a bit more information, there are certainly less expensive hot wire cutters, rock tumblers, and mediums. You could use rock as your tumbling medium but I found they break down and create a lot of dirt and dust (it's a tumbler after all). The resin triangles hold up well, do the trick, and don't generate and grit. It's easy to vary the amount of rounding by increasing or decreasing the tumble time and you can get consistent results from batch to batch!
Happy diorama making!

Materials:
This project uses materials from my local hobby store. Here's a quick list of the things I used if you're building out a shopping list.
- Inexpensive paint brush sets. I tend to mostly use flats. I ruin brushes so I look for bundles.
- Craft paints. I don't have a brand favorite and generally just pick the colors I need. Look for satin or matte finish. Some of the colors I use are black, white, espresso brown, honeycomb brown, forest green, yellow, antique white, brick red.
- Matte or gloss acrylic medium. I use Liquitex but am always on the lookout for the best value.
- Gloss gel medium
- Extra fine tip black paint pen
- Plastic glass substitute for picture framing

When looking for a switch, make sure it's a momentary, normally off switch. I have a Treadlite switch but I wasn't able to find the model I purchased. What I did find was significantly more expensive than what I paid. I have some Wen tools and have had pretty good luck. I don't have this switch but it's a low barrier to test if this works for you. I would absolutely buy and try this if I needed a second switch.

As with all things electrical, always use caution when wiring and never exceed the ratings of the components you use. My general rule of thumb is... when in doubt... don't.

For those of you with keen eyes, you'll notice that the wire is actually 22 AWG instead of 24 as mentioned in the video.
