Betty Crockers Cookbook for Boys ad Girls(The 1957 classic)

Stay to the end of the video for a vintage cooking/baking tip.
This cookbook is so adorable, mine is a reprint from the original but the recipe are still just as good as they were in 1957.
Directions
Heat oven to 350*
grease and flour an 8-inch square pan
Stir together-1 1/3 Bisquick, and 3/4 cup sugar
Add- 3 tablespoons of Soft Shortening, 1 egg, and 1/4 cup of milk
Beat vigorously for 1 minute.
Stir in-1/2 cup of milk, and 1 tsp. vanilla
Beat 1/2 more minute
Pour into pan. Bake 35-40 minutes. While the cake is still warm spread with broiled coconut icing.
Broiled coconut icing.
Mix-3 tbsp. of soft butter, 1/3 cup brown sugar(packed)
2 tbsp top milk or heavy cream, 1/2 cup flaked coconut
1/4 cup chopped nut.
Spread mixture over warm cake in the pan, Place 3 inches un boiler at low hear until mixtures bubbles and browns (3-5 minutes). Watch the icing closely as it broils, so it won't burn.
