How does an innocent man get executed in America today? In Missouri, it might be easier than you think.
For a state that incarcerates its population at a higher rate than most countries on earth the system has been rigged to make sure these convictions remain final no matter what comes to light.
At the center of it all: Marcellus Williams. Even though DNA evidence was discovered seven years ago that could have exonerated him, the state has refused to even allow an evidentiary hearing to present this.
Marcellus Williams' execution date is currently set for September 24th, 2024.

Back in 1968 the country was in turmoil over Vietnam and protestors took the streets during the DNC in Chicago to protest President Lyndon B. Johnson and the Democratic party’s position on the conflict. They were met by brutal force from the Chicago Police Department and the National Guard and the story became national news furthering the divide amongst the party. Shortly after, Nixon won the presidency with a narrow margin thanks in part to all of these problems
Now, 56 years later the Democratic Party is divided once again, this time over Gaza, with tons of protestors planning to show up to the DNC in Chicago. If history repeats itself it could spell the end of Democrats hopes for this fall.

Every year in Oklahoma there are hundreds of deaths that are ruled as undetermined. When this happens the police can essnetial dismiss the case and no longer look into it.
A large number of these cases being ruled as undetermined are Native American cases. There's no real rhyme or reason as to why this happens at 2-3 times the rate of any other group in the state.
Families searching for answers have to go through lengthy processes and convince the agencies to change the ruling in order for any justice to be found.

Nowhere as much as Oklahoma, whose history as Indian Territory has left a lasting impression on the state's Native community.
Oklahoma currently has the most recorded missing persons of any state in America. The indigenous population are 3 times more likely to go missing than others. Murder is one of the leading causes of death amongst the women and men.
The numbers obscure a larger problem and is one of the reasons it's hard to determine just how massive this crisis is. Less than half of violent victimizations against AI/AN women are ever reported to police. A retroactive study found In 2016 only 2% of reported missing AI/AN women cases made it to NAMUS.
