Perhaps Pixar could bash this out in a few months, but I'm working on home on obsolete computers and software that's nine years out-of-date because it's all I can afford.I was raised when the Star Wars saga was new, and I've always wanted to do something similar...and by "do something similar", I mean actually have a space adventure...but since that seems unlikely, my next-best-thing was to make one of my own. Thus, "Quinn Redshift" was born.I knew I wanted to make something in the big-chinned-hero vein in order to keep with the pulp style; John Carter, Flash Gordon, Buck Rogers, Spaceman Spiff, and Buzz Lightyear were all influences and inspiration."Quinn Redshift" is also a love-letter to my childhood. As a kid, Hollywood's assumption that cartoons are solely for children (just as Japan about that!) and thus must contain slapstick humor, musical numbers, and a life lesson about believing in yourself...and I hated it. It felt very condescending; I wanted something I could really sink my my teeth into!And thus I wrote a script that I felt was ageless, could be enjoyed by anybody and not just kids...and as a kid, I would have loved "Quinn Redshift". I love it as an adult, too, and wish more cartoons were made with that goal in mind.I hope this trailer leaves people wanting to see more...

Toonsplosion Test 01 BionicDance 2021-05-29 | As cartoon explosions go, this is fairly adequate.A big problem is that you actually almost never see an explosion dissipate in a cartoon. Y'ever notice that? Zapper Gun Blast ANIMATION TEST BionicDance 2021-01-26 | This is just test footage.It's not meant to be impressive: the sound effects are crap, it's not even particularly good animation. 100% of the point was to see whether the look of the zapper bolts worked.The idea was to look kind of like they have distorted light; there are three slightly offset cylinders that taper and converge at the ends (giving the blast an almost diamond shape). One is red, one is green, and one is blue, and all are set to an additive filter; that's why, when they overlap, they look white.The bolt is also rotating so that the RGB distortions are not always in the same place relative to each other and which hopefully helps the distorted look.Yes, there is a chance I've over-thought this, but that's fine.

The universe is a very mundane place compared to our fertile imaginations.If you weren't a kid in the 80s, you missed out; there was so much magic out there in terms of games and movies and TV. It was a much more care-free time when it came to fiction than today; Hollywood was in this Goldilocks Zone where FX were started to be good enough to be believed, but they hadn't quite realized they could use them in place of good writing yet...and we, as kids, absorbed a LOT of it. And I can't speak for others, but for me, it made me wish with all my heart for a world that is so much cooler than the real one. It's why I animate and play games: those are socially-acceptable ways for adults to play Make-Believe....well, that, and religion.Cuz religions paint pictures of a world that's magical and amazing, with miracles and magic and an all-powerful guardian figure...if you didn't know that was religion, it might sound like a killer comic book, knowhutImean?So, when faced with a real world that's stinky and slimy and gross and requires a lot of schooling to understand, it's easy to understand people preferring a much simpler, more satisfying version of reality.Real or not. It won't be the first time; goodness knows that Greg Koukl advises theists on how to never be the one under the spotlight, never sitting in the hot seat...because he knows he religious positions cannot be defended under critical scrutiny. And I think that's the deal with this guy, here. He dresses it up to sound like he just wants to know the atheist position on certain weighty matters, but I think it's his only line of defense against what is, after all, pretty devastating to his position.But that's not how this works; I don't have to be right to know he's wrong, to point out that what he's saying doesn't fit the facts.
