Minecraft Hardcore Historic Castle 20 - The Gatehouse (+Competition) @Dreymasmith

Dreymasmith Dreams I'm making an historic castle in Minecraft - in hardcore mode. The Gatehouse was an important element of defence in a castle. I'm making one that will be hard to breach. Ep 21 is here youtu.be/oNqY4OXi8Ss

When there are enemies at the gate you need a strong gatehouse with lots of defensive features. This gatehouse has it all - portcullises, arrow loops, murder holes, drawbars, machicolations, you name it.

The rules for my castle -
make it as accurately as possible
western European style
wall thickness, size and height accurate on averages
cranes and other lifting equipment to be built
accommodations for workers

all on Minecraft hardcore mode - which means one life and one life only.

THE COMPETITION:
I need a banner for the lord of the castle. Brush up on your heraldry and design a banner.
Rules: must be craftable in survival, so no more than six steps. Nothing obscene or offensive. No ombre or colour gradation - solid colours only. Post a screenshot of your design to the "banner-competition" channel in my discord and list the blazon Minecraft provides (that's the description you get when you hover over the banner) so that I can make the banner in my world. Also add any story or explanation for your design if you want to (this bit isn't required, but is there if you want it)
Competition closes 10 November 2021 AEDT
The Prize: The winner will get a shout out in the episode when I announce the winning design. The winning design (that is, the one I choose) will become the banner for my castle and I will hang copies of it around the castle and grounds. I need to find ender pearls and blaze rods to make eyes of Ender. Then I need ghast tears so I can resummon the Ender Dragon. Once I've got all those it's a hunt for a new stronghold and a deep dive into the End to bring down the dragon again and look for an end city with a ship and an elytra. I may be gone some time.

Building with the landscape can make even the simplest structure look like it's built by a pro, or at least a pro in the making. And it's a lot less work that cutting down hills or filling in holes. And there is no risk of an accidental mob farm. So watch this super quick video and nestle your next build into the landscape.

Dreymasmith Dreams 2022-09-24 | Because... it is a mine. I'm building a multi level mine to optimise ore gathering. With a rail system and storage shed. But the depths hold some secrets.

When Mojang changed ore generation, it changed how we can mine most effectively. And this mine in my snowy village takes full advantage of that. But why leave it as a hole in the ground, or as steps down? I'm decorating and building to my heart's content. Let me know in the comments what you think, and if you have any suggestions for additions.

Hopefully I can now find enough diamonds to get proper armour and go find an Ancient City. Which might be a mistake. Ah well, at least I have a mine.

Minecraft Hardcore Historic Castle - Lighting the Castle in 1.18

Let's talk about candles, and rushlights, and the truth about torches in a historic castle! Then I make an alchemist's chamber for... the chaplain. There's only time for a quick history of alchemy - it is worth doing a lot more reading, especially about Mary the Jewess, she was remarkable. I love her theories on the gender of metals.

Just remember that the new lighting rules are not without their risks. I don't quite get it right and there are consequences.

The rules for my castle -
make it as accurately as possible
western European style
wall thickness, size and height accurate on averages
cranes and other lifting equipment to be built
accommodations for workers

Dreymasmith Dreams 2021-12-02 | It's time to update but what did 1.18 do to my world? Let's find out. I'm removing torch spam, digging down into the deep caves and heading up into the mountains. The Caves and Cliffs update had better deliver. I want a lush cave. Will I find it?

I find out how to find lush caves in 1.18. I go looking in deep dark caves and I find out where the diamonds are in 1.18. Lots of exploring!

Minecraft Hardcore Historic Castle - Nether a Knight Went Errantry

The easiest way to find a nether fortress isn't necessarily easy. I need soul sand, but I also want blaze rods and nether wart. Can I find them all? Will I make it back alive? Or are my castle building days over? Find out in this episode!
