Now, eyes are on what will happen in the Middle East, now that the Hamas leader is dead.
Our Lee Eun-hee spoke with an expert to discuss the potential implications.
A "good day for the world," is what U.S. President Joe Biden said on Israel's claim on Thursday of killing Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar.
He described it as an opportunity to free hostages and end the war in Gaza, emphasizing that this is the direction the U.S. intends to take.
Vice President and Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris echoed Joe Biden's views.
"And it is time for the day after to begin. Without Hamas in power, we will not give up on these goals, and I will always work to create a future of peace, dignity, and security for all."
Yahya Sinwar, who'd long been at the top of Israel's target list, was described by the United States as a "major obstacle to peace."
With his removal, will U.S. optimism for a potential resolution to the Gaza Strip actually unfold?
This stands in contrast to Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu's assertion that "the war is not over," emphasizing the ongoing goal of disarming Hamas.
That is why experts say that while Yahya Sinwar's death opens a new chapter, there are split ends to the potential outcome.
"So I mean the pressure on Netanyahu will be there within like three or four days but the day after it is not here yet and we don't know how the Netanyahu will gonna react."
The professor notes that this signifies a new chapter, with significant pressure anticipated on Netanyahu to bring the war to an end, including from the U.S.
However, some opposing views argue that this could also open the door to renewed aggression in the Middle East conflict.
"You know, it will gonna give another good motivation for Netanyahu to just push a little bit forward to make an aggression not only to Hezbollah but also expand it to Houthi."
While we'll have to see how much pressure the U.S. and other authorities will exert and whether it will be effective, the ultimate decision lies in Netanyahu's hands.

The National Intelligence Service has confirmed North Korea's direct military involvement in Russia's war with Ukraine.
According to the NIS on Friday, North Korea began deploying around 15-hundred special forces troops to Russia as of October 8th, with more deployments anticipated.
The soldiers are currently stationed at Russian military bases, undergoing training before deployment.
The NIS also reported that North Korea has supplied over 13-thousand containers of weapons, including artillery shells, missiles and anti-tank rockets to Russia since last year.
An NIS official emphasized that the allegations of direct military cooperation between Russia and North Korea have now been "officially confirmed."

In response to this, South Korea says it's not going to sit idly by and will mobilize all available means to respond with the international community.
This came as the Presidential Office on Friday said that President Yoon Suk Yeol presided over an emergency security meeting with top security officials regarding North Korea deploying troops to support Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
The participants also recognized that the continued expansion of military cooperation between Pyongyang and Moscow is not only a threat to South Korea's security but also to the international community.
The top office added that it has been tracking the deployment from the early stages with Seoul's friendly nations and will continue to do so going forward.

China's economic growth in the third quarter remained below its government's target for the year.
According to China's National Bureau of Statistics on Friday, the country's GDP for the July to September period rose 4-point-6 percent year-on-year, below the government's target of 5 percent for 2024.
This not only marks the second straight quarter that China's GDP has fallen below the five percent target, but it was also lower than the 4-point-7 percent growth of the second quarter.
The bureau remained optimistic, however, citing the government's new stimulus measures and the economy remaining "generally stable."

Thank you for joining us. I'm Yoon Jung-min.
We begin with the killing of the leader of Hamas, Yahya Sinwar, by Israeli Defense Forces in Gaza.
Responding to this, Israel says it will continue to fight.
Cha Yun-kyung has the latest.
On Thursday,.. Israel confirmed that the de facto leader of Hamas, Yahya Sinwar, had been killed in an operation in southern Gaza.
Israeli Defence Minister, Yoav Gallant, said that Israel "settled a years-long score with the leader, who is a despicable murderer and terrorist."
According to CNN, an Israeli drone flying over Gaza spotted Sinwar's body in the rubble of a building struck by an Israeli tank.
Israeli officials say they ran DNA tests and used dental records to confirm that it was Sinwar.
The leader is believed to be behind the deadly attacks on October 7th, 2023, which sparked the current conflict in the Middle East, leaving hundreds of Israelis dead, and many more injured.
In response to the death of Sinwar, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the moment marked the "beginning of the day after Hamas," calling on those holding Israelis captive to surrender and return hostages, promising safety for those who do so.
He also vowed Israel will continue to fight, saying it will continue with all its strength to bring back the hostages taken by Hamas last year.
"Yahya Sinwar is dead. He was killed in Rafah by the brave soldiers of the Israel Defence Forces. While this is not the end of the war in Gaza, it's the beginning of the end."
Meanwhile, according to Russian news agency TASS, citing Lebanon’s LBCI news website, Khaled Mashal, chief of the Hamas office abroad, has taken on the role of acting Hamas leader.
LBCI News reported that Mashal is now responsible for communication with the key parties involved in talks on the release of Israeli hostages.
Following Sinwar's death, Hamas has expressed concern that discussions on prisoner exchanges and a ceasefire will become more challenging.

Welcome to Within the Frame where we delve into the most up-to-date issues across the globe, I'm Kim Mok-yeon.
The 2024 U.S. presidential election is just around the corner.
With just over 20 days until voters head to the polls, the race is heating up in key battleground states.
Democrat Kamala Harris seems to have erased Republican Donald Trump’s lead over President Joe Biden since announcing her candidacy on July 21st.
Survey results have been neck and neck lately.
Trump gained a lead over Harris in a Fox News poll released Wednesday that found him up 50 percent to 48.
Meanwhile, a different poll by an Economist/YouGov shows Harris with a four-point lead.
So which key aspects could sway the hearts of the voters, and how do the candidates' policies differ in terms of economy and diplomacy?
For answers to this, we're joined in the studio by Min Jeong-hun , Professor at Korea National Diplomatic Academy.
Welcome to the show, Professor.
Also joining us online is VOA Correspondent Chris Casquejo.
Good to have you, Chris!
1. (Chris) Let's begin our discussion with Chris. With just over 20 days until the U.S. presidential election, can you tell us, what’s the current state of the race in key battleground states? How is the sentiment among voters being analyzed?
2. (Chris) What strategies are both candidates employing to solidify their support bases and expand their appeal to moderate voters? How would you evaluate them?
3. (Min) Now to Professor Min, how about you? how do you assess the effectiveness of the strategies being implemented by both candidates?
4. (Min) Some analysts suggest a decline in support for Harris among traditional Democratic voter bases like Black and Hispanic voters.
Professor, how would you read into this potential shift in sentiment despite Trump's hardline immigration policies?
5-1. (Chris) Early voting began in Georgia on October 15th and on the 17th in North Carolina. Chris, can you tell us about the current trends in early voting and public opinion?
5-2. (Chris) Also, reports indicate that over 320,000 voters participated in Georgia on the first day of early voting. What factors do you think are driving this high turnout?
6. (Min) It’s generally believed that high early voting rates favor Democrats. Professor Min, do you think this trend will persist in this tightly contested election?
7. (Chris) Economic issues have emerged as a crucial factor influencing voter decision. What is the current public sentiment regarding economic policies Chris?
8. (Min) Now regarding cooperation with South Korea, Professor, how do the candidates plan to address trade agreements with South Korea? What changes could we anticipate depending on the election outcome?
9. (Min) On North Korea, how might each candidate’s stance on the regime differ? What implications could these positions have for Korea's diplomatic engagement and denuclearization efforts?
10. (Chris) The ongoing conflict in the Middle East is also a variable in this election. Harris advocates for a ceasefire, while Trump calls for strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities. So Chris, how might these positions affect the election landscape?
11. (BOTH) As election day comes near, what key points should we be paying attention to in the lead-up to the vote?
Alright, we'll have to conclude our discussion here.
Thank you so much for your time and your insights tonight Chris, and of course Professor Min. we appreciate it.

North Korea's Kim Jong-un has taken to fresh bellicose rhetoric against South Korea amid the regime's designation of Seoul as a "hostile state".
Our correspondent Kim Jung-sil covers his latest comments and the response here.
North Korean leader Kim Jong-un points at a large map on the table. Though the map is blurred, the word "Seoul" is visible at the top. A TV screen behind him shows a map of the Korean Peninsula, with a thick blue line drawn near what appears to be the military demarcation line.
The photos, released by the North's state-run Korean Central News Agency on Friday, also included Kim's remarks during his visit to the command of the Second Army Corps the day before.
Kim referred to South Korea as a 'foreign, enemy state' and threatened to use military force—without conditions—if South Korea infringes on North Korean sovereignty.
Seoul's Ministry of Unification reiterated its position on Friday.
"We warn that any provocation from North Korea will be met with a strong response, backed by the powerful ROK-U.S. alliance."
The North's leader also mentioned the destruction of the cross-border roads, stating that it signifies more than just a 'physical closure' and serves as a symbol of the 'complete severance of bad blood with Seoul'.
"The term 'Seoul' ultimately carries the significance of the Blue House in the past and now the Presidential Office. The North is sending a message that it will target Seoul, including the Presidential Office , if UAVs were to distribute leaflets again."
Seoul neither confirmed nor denied its involvement with the alleged unmanned aerial vehicles.
The KCNA also carried statements from Kim Yo-jong, who criticized reports by South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff accusing Pyongyang of using footage of the North's road demolitions taken by the South Korean military without authorization.
Kim Yo-jong claimed that the South too has used KCNA media footage without authorization.
"Vice Department Director Kim Yo-jong's claims of copyright infringement are completely groundless. Our media use KCNA materials legally, by paying royalties through a Japanese intermediary. It is, in fact, North Korea that has been using our content without permission."
Deputy Spokesperson Kim added that North Korea should act responsibly as a member of the Berne Convention, the international treaty for copyright protection.

The top military officers of South Korea and the U.S. have condemned the military cooperation between North Korea and Russia.
The condemnation was shared virtually earlier on this Thursday at the 49th Military Committee Meeting during which they also underscored that such cooperation disrupts not simply the stability on the peninsula but also that of the broader international community.
Admiral Kim Myung-soo in particular shed grave light on North Korea's persistent provocations including its floating of waste-carrying balloons into South Korea and the regime's recent designation of South Korea as "a hostile state".

Domestic demand appears to be on road to recovery but the pace remains varied depending on sector.
Now this is according to the Finance Ministry's latest assessment.
Our correspondent Moon Hye-ryeon reports.
South Korea’s economy continues to recover, primarily due to strong export performance, while domestic consumption is showing gradual signs of improvement.
That's according to the latest economic greenbook a monthly economic assessment report released by the Finance Ministry on Friday.
"Our economy continues to recover, led by exports and manufacturing, with price stability improving. Domestic demand is gradually picking up, mainly in facility investment and services, but recovery rates vary across sectors."
The government has been consistently diagnosing domestic consumption as showing "signs of recovery" since May, citing improvements in the services sector, among other factors.
However, it has also noted a disparity between the recovery of exports and domestic demand.
Service production increased by point-2 percent in August compared to the month before, marking the third consecutive month of growth.
Retail sales an indicator of consumer spending were also up by 1-point-7 percent month-on-month.
However, compared to the same month last year, retail sales decreased by 1-point-3 percent, showing an ongoing downward trend.
The government reported that it expects an increase in retail sales to be tallied for September due to recorded growth in credit card spending and domestic car sales also noting that the Chuseok holiday and the release of the new iPhone series could have an impact.
While domestic demand has shown mixed signals, exports continued to perform well on the back of the booming IT sector.
Exports increased by 7-point-5 percent in September, marking 12 consecutive months of growth.
Driven by strong export performance, manufacturing production also increased by 4-point-1 percent in September compared to the previous month, and by 3-point-8 percent compared to the same period last year.
The government maintained its assessment that inflation is stabilizing.
Consumer prices rose by 1-point-6 percent year-on-year in September, marking the first time since March 2021 that the growth rate has fallen below 2 percent.
The government identified potential risks, including concerns about a global economic slowdown and fluctuations in commodity prices.
The ongoing conflict in the Middle East, such as between Israel and Iran, could lead to volatility in international oil prices.

In other news.
The fresh global spotlight on the literary works of author Han Kang has many industry insiders and readers alike hoping for a fresh boost of broader interest in the art of reading and more.
Ahn Sung-jin explains.
The first Asian women to win the Nobel Prize for Literature.
Author Han Kang is being praised as Korean literature's equivalent of K-pop's BTS, both leading figures that reflect Korean culture in the world.
"I think this is very nice because Korean literature is very good and it deserves more recognition, especially abroad."
"Seeing an Asian female author in this generation win an award, especially a Nobel Prize, is such a big thing and I think it’s a really big gateway for many women and minorities."
As well as garnering attention outside of Korea, Han is igniting a small light that is bringing positive change, especially in the printing and publishing industry.
This printing company, which had been seeing a decrease in revenue over recent years, has suddenly seen a surge in the number of copies printed.
"Han Kang’s novels are flying off the shelves after her Nobel Prize win. This printing company has been working day and night to meet demand."
After the announcement, staff at this company have turned in their weekend to cater to the requests.
"I feel great and thankful to her. I hope more authors get the chance so the publishing company can become even more dynamic. With fewer people reading books these days, I'm hoping this will turn things around."
Written in Korean, her books are easily approachable and enjoyable for domestic readers.
"I felt proud as a Korean because I was able to read the book in Korean without having to worry about understanding the nuance or the meaning like other award-winning books.
Han Kang's win is a milestone for Korean literature, but some say more is needed to be done to really develop Korean literature.
"I think it's necessary to foster a reading culture which allows people to read and buy books at libraries or bookstores for more occasions like these. It's important because I think Korea still lacks that bit."
Many in the literature industry hope that her Nobel Prize win will rejuvenate the fiction market and potentially even lead to a new boom.

한국 향한 애정으로 감동 전한 에드워드 리, 이균 셰프 단독 인터뷰
A Korean survival show involving celebrity chefs and their lesser-known counterparts on Netflix has been reviving taste buds across the globe as well as a stronger fan base for the contestants.
Our culture correspondent Song Yoo-jin sat down with one of them.
Do take a listen.
"I have an American name, Edward, but I have a Korean name too.
My Korean name is Kyun. So this dish is made by Lee Kyun."
It looks like tteokbokki, Korea's beloved street food, but it's actually a creamy semifreddo, paired with a drink made of Korean melon, minari, and makgeolli.
Chef Edward Lee's final creation on Netflix's "Culinary Class Wars" is a symbol of the journey he's embarked on throughout the show.
So why did the winner of "Iron Chef America" and White House State Dinner guest chef, choose to return to competition?
In an exclusive interview with Arirang News, Chef Lee explains why.
"I've been lately sort of rediscovering a lot of my Korean food heritage and it just so happened that around the same time It was a way for me to tell a personal story."
Chef Lee's culinary journey began and flourished in New York, before moving to Kentucky, and later Washington D.C.
Though he has spent most of his life in the U.S., his connection to Korea has always remained strong.
"Even when I wasn't cooking Korean food I always use Korean flavors whether it's gochujang or doenjang or ganjang, or you know the things I grew up eating my grandmother's Korean food and I think that's just part of my DNA."
"Culinary Class Wars" gave Chef Lee a unique chance to reconnect with that heritage through food.
Throughout the show, he challenged himself to step away from his comfort zone: Southern American cuisine, and mostly tried dishes he'd never cooked before.
"The culture of Korea, it seems so far away but it's really not and it's also part of my culture too. There's a lot of people who have been saying, especially Korean-Americans who have been saying that I've never seen my story told on TV in such a big stage."
Cooking had been Chef Lee's dream since he was 10 years old.
But over the years, it has evolved into something much more meaningful.
"There is something just magic of being in a room full of people eating and smiling and laughing and having conversations and I think you don't get that energy anywhere else."
So, what's next for the celebrated chef?
He isn't planning to slow down anytime soon to get his job done.
"Ultimately my job as a chef is to bring happiness to people and if I can continue to do that then I've done my job."
Edward Lee started "Culinary Class Wars" as the world-renowned chef many of us know.
But by the end, he has revealed something deeper to the world: he's not just Edward Lee.
He's Edward Kyun Lee.
"I've been really, really happy lately. Thank you so much."
Song Yoo-jin, Arirang News.

We start over in the Middle East today.
The target of Israel's military operation in Gaza Yahya Sinwar has been killed.
Lee Seung-jae has the latest.
On October 7th, 2023, Palestinian militant group Hamas launched an attacked against Israel which left hundreds of Israelis dead, and many more injured.
The man believed to be behind the deadly attacks that sparked the current conflict in the Middle East,.. is Yahya Sinwar.
However,.. on Thursday,.. Israel confirmed that the Hamas leader had been killed in an operation in southern Gaza.
According to CNN, an Israeli drone flying over Gaza spotted Sinwar's body in the rubble of a building struck by an Israeli tank.
Israeli officials say they ran DNA tests and used dental records to confirm that it was Sinwar.
In response to the death of Sinwar, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the moment marked the "beginning of the day after Hamas", calling on those holding Israelis captive to surrender and return the hostages, promising safety for those that do so.
He also vowed Israel will continue to fight, saying it will continue with all its strength to bring back the hostages taken by Hamas last year.
Washington responded to the death of Sinwar, calling it a "very significant day in the Middle East."
According to White House National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan, Sinwar was a "massive obstacle to peace."
He said now that obstacle had been removed, U.S. President Joe Biden looked forward to speaking to Netanyahu about how to secure the return of the hostages, and to end the war.
Sullivan voiced hoped that the recent events would bring about a better day for the people of Gaza and Israel, as well as the entire region, adding that the U.S. is committed to doing everything in its power to help contribute to that.

Hello and welcome to Press Perspective for this Friday October 18th here in South Korea.
I'm Min Sunhee
A growing number of senior Koreans are seeking to take " roads not taken" by their earlier counterparts as they choose to venture onto runaways and into rapping.
For more I have Chien-Hao Yang a Taiwanese journalist here in Seoul.
Chien-Hao it's a pleasure.
I also have Sebastien Falletti a correspondent for French daily Le Figaro.
Sebastien welcome.
1) Chien-Hao, how do you explain the international interest garnered by "Korea's most glamorous granny" as BBC described the 81-year-old beauty pageant contestant?
2) Sebastien, do you suppose the reality that Korea is one of the fastest aging societies in the world has shed greater global media attention on Choi Soon-hwa's participation in this pageant?
3) Meanwhile, Chien-Hao, a while back, you covered a group of senior Korean men who had been generating much buzz online for their chic styles and choreography.
Do share with us details of that coverage, and what were some of your takeaways?
4) Chien-Hao, you also touched upon the public perception towards the elderly here in Korea as well as the generational gap between the young and old.
Do you care to elaborate?
5) Sebastien, dismal birth rates and ageing communities are universal concerns.
That being said, do tell us a bit about this reality over in Europe, and how does it compare to the situation here in Korea?
6) Sebastien, you recently covered Korea's low birth rate and government efforts to tackle it.
Generally speaking, what are your thoughts on efforts here to address birth rates and the consequences of an ageing society?
7) Chien-Hao, back in July, lawmakers in Taiwan abolished the clause requiring retirement at age 65.
Now, what prompted this move, and what has been the public response?
8) Sebastien, in France, the legal retirement age has been raised to 64 from 62 following rampant public protests last year.
What's the latest on that front?
9) Chien-Hao, back here in Korea, a group of rapping grannies, all in their 80s, made quite a bit of headlines earlier this year.
Now, sadly, one of the members passed away this month at the age of 87 owning to cancer.
And her 65-year-old daughter revealed her mother had said that her last few months were like heaven given her chance on stage as a rapper.
These remarks have reignited interest in the quality of life for the elderly here in Korea.
What is your observation with regard to the quality of life for seniors in Korea?
10) And Sebastien, what are your thoughts on the quality of life for the elderly here in Korea?
All right.

October is usually considered a relatively slow season for movies. However, a wide range of Korean films have been hitting theaters this month, from thrillers to comedies and romance. Today in our “Culture Issue“ segment we take a glimpse into the hottest K-movies out right now. For that, we are joined by professor and filmmaker Jae Soh from the Seoul Institute of the Arts. Welcome Professor Soh!
(SOA)
Q1. Professor Soh, data released Thursday showed that Korean movies hit a record-high figure in sales and audience numbers in September, (81 bil. won (US$59.2 million), 8.12 million viewers) especially on the back of the successful movie “I, the Executioner”, , which has surpassed 7 million viewers. Let's start with "I, the Executioner." What's behind the popularity of the film?
(SOA)
Q2. It's difficult to not notice the movie being compared to “Veteran“, or the first movie of the Veteran series, with quite a number of people expressing disappointment. What’s your take on those views and what are the elements that make the second movie different from the incredibly successful first “Veteran“ film.
(WALTER)
Q3. Professor Soh Let’s move on from thriller to drama, or romance. “Love in the Big City“ is a movie based on a novel. It revolves around the queer scene in the city of Seoul and the lives of young people. What is it about this movie that's attracting viewers to the theater?
(WALTER)
Q4. What differentiates this movie from other films that are based on love stories?(besides the movie revolving around LGBTQ)
(SOA)
Q5. Let’s talk about a movie that was just released two days ago on Wednesday, and went straight to the top of the box office charts, “A Normal Family”. It’s receiving much attention for being a well-made suspense film featuring renowned actors like Seol Kyung-gu , Jang Dong-gun , Kim Hee-ae and Soohyun . It evolves around moral conflicts. What are your thoughts on the movie and what are your expectations on how it will do?
(WALTER)
Q6. Are there any trends or common elements you see in recently released Korean films, that have contributed to their popularity?
(SOA)
Q7. Last but not least, any exciting screenings we should look out for?
(SOA)
Q8. Korean movies have been doing better than foreign movies lately. How do you explain this phenomenon and can we expect the trend to continue?

So Sung-jin, we've talked a lot about Han Kang this week but surely there is still more we can delve into.
That's right, Soa.
Author Han Kang's Nobel Prize for Literature has been a sensation for the country, even a week after the announcement.
There is much excitement that this will be an opportunity to shed light on Korean literature and boost the country's publishing industry.
Let's take a listen to what industry insiders say.
(SOA)
It's great to see that Han Kang's Nobel Prize win has become such a significant boost to the industry.
Absolutely, her award win is like a catalyst for the literature industry, bringing a vibrant energy.
Before I delve into that a bit more, let me ask you guys: do you like to read often?
(SOA + WALTER)
I used to be a bookworm myself, but now with all the short-form media it's really difficult to keep up with books.
Compared to ten years ago, the number of people who read more than one book over a year has decreased from 70 percent to nearly 40 percent, which is the lowest on record.
With more exposure to digital gadgets, we are definitely spending less time on our traditional means of reading, which is why the expert I talked to suggested we cultivate an environment where more people can read.
(WALTER)
And Sung-jin, a lot of these books have become a rare commodity now after her winning, and it's become difficult to buy or even find places to read her book.
Anywhere we can take a look at her books?
Right, it's great that you pointed this out because the Seoul Metropolitan government runs 3 outdoor libraries nearby Seoul City Hall, Gwanghwamun Plaza and by the Cheonggyecheon stream.
At these locations, starting from last week you can see 10 of her works displayed including "The Vegetarian" and "Human Acts."
Not only can you find Korean and English versions of the books but you can find the translated copies in 20 different languages such as Japanese, Chinese and Arabic.
Anyone who comes and visits these outdoor libraries can take a look, and this special exhibition will run until November 10th.
If you guys haven't been yet, I'd recommend checking it out.
Thanks so much for the report Sung-jin.
My pleasure!

Starting off with some news on BlackPinks' Rosé, who has a new single coming out!
(WALTER)
Yes, BlackPink's Rosé has started part two of her solo career, and this time she is joining up with a pop icon. Rosé announced on her social media that she is set to release a single together with "Just the Way You Are" singer Bruno Mars. Their single is titled 'Apt'. This announcement was released on Thursday evening Korea local time on the K-pop singer's social media.
This single is to go with the BlackPink artist's first full-length album titled 'rosie' and will feature 12 tracks in total. Rosé was all hands on when it came to the production of the album, writing and composing all the songs as well as sharing more honest and personal stories in her lyrics. This is also Rosè's first music released under new management THE BLACK LABEL.
(SOA)
When will people be able to hear this new single and when can we expect her album to come out?
(WALTER)
The pre-release single 'Apt' went live at 1pm Friday and the full-length album will be released on December 6.
(SOA)
Moving on to some K-pop boyband news, what do you have?
(WALTER)
The music video for "Rock, LALALALA" the title track of Stray Kids' mini album Rockstar, released on November 10, 2023, has surpassed 200 million views on YouTube. This marks Stray Kids' sixth video to reach 200 million views, following "God's Menu," "Back Door," "Thunderous," "MANIAC," and "S-Class."
"Rock" is the first song by a 4th generation K-pop boy group to enter the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, which earned Stray Kids their fourth consecutive No. 1 on the Billboard 200. Stray Kids, an eight-member boy group under JYP Entertainment, debuted in 2018.
(SOA)
I hear they are currently touring right now!
(WALTER)
They are currently on their new world tour, Stray Kids World Tour dominATE, with an upcoming performance scheduled for October 19 at Marvel Stadium in Melbourne, Australia. Following this, they will perform in cities like Tokyo, Manila, Macau, Osaka, Bangkok, Jakarta, and Hong Kong.
(SOA)
Last but not least, let's talk about the exciting group KATSEYE.
(WALTER)
The K-pop multinational girl group 'KATSEYE' and their song "Touch" has surpassed 100 million streams on Spotify, the world's largest music streaming platform.
According to Spotify on Thursday, "Touch," one of the double title tracks from KATSEYE's first EP "SIS" (Soft Is Strong), surpassed 101.6 million cumulative streams as of October 15th, achieving this milestone just 82 days after its release. This makes "Touch" the first KATSEYE song to reach 100 million streams on Spotify.
KATSEYE has also been steadily making its mark on the U.S. Billboard charts. "Touch" is ranked 98th on the latest Billboard "Global Excluding U.S." chart and 124th on the "Global 200" chart. The song has been on the "Global Excluding U.S." chart for six consecutive weeks and on the "Global 200" chart for five straight weeks.
KATSEYE is set to appear at the "2024 MAMA AWARDS," scheduled to take place in Los Angeles on November 21.
(WALTER)
I have a question for you Soa and for the viewers at home. What is the difference between K-pop and regular pop these days? KATSEYE is a multinational group and sing in all English but are known as a K-pop group? What makes K-pop, K-pop?
(SOA)
That's a good question. I think it's the music style, K-pop is a genre of itself right? And if a group debuts in Korea and is based in Korea,.. I guess it's a K-pop group!

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un vowed the regime will use physical force without conditions or hesitation if South Korea violates the North's sovereignty.
According to the North's state-run Korean Central News Agency on Friday, the demolition of the inter-Korean roads is not just a "simple closure" of the routes, but rather to "cut off the bitter relationship with Seoul."
Kim also called for the strengthening of North Korea's military to maintain peace.
Kim's younger sister Kim Yo-jong also slammed Seoul for accusing Pyongyang for the unauthorized use of South Korean military surveillance footage in a recent KCNA report on the demolition of the inter-Korean roads.
She argued that the South Korean media has long used photos from the KCNA when reporting its news, accusing Seoul of double standards.

During his visit to Europe to gather support for his “victory plan”, Ukrainian President Zelenskyy claimed that North Korea is getting ready to send about 10-thousand troops to Russia.
Our Shin Ha-young reports.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that North Korea is preparing to send about 10-thousand soldiers, including tactical personnel, to Russia to aid in the war against Ukraine.
"We know about 10 thousand soldiers of North Korea that they are preparing to send to fight against us. This is a really urgent thing."
His remarks were made at a press conference in Brussels following the EU summit on Thursday local time.
Referring to military intelligence sources, Zelenskyy noted that although the exact number is uncertain, the North has already sent tactical personnel and officers to Russian-occupied Ukrainian territories.
He pointed out that due to troop losses, Russia is trying to involve other participants in the war against Ukraine as many young Russians seek to avoid conscription.
He warned that North Korea's support to Russia is "the first step to a world war", and added that he had discussed the issue with U.S. officials and EU leaders during the summit.
Regarding the matter, South Korea's Vice Defense Minister Kim Seon-ho, who is visiting NATO headquarters, said support in the form of civilian personnel instead of troops is also possible.
Kim added that it will become clearer once more information is gathered and evaluated.
Russian media dismissed Zelenskyy's claim of North Korean troop deployments as lies made up to attract Western attention and support.
On Thursday, Zelenskyy pitched his "victory plan" to the European Union and NATO, which calls for an immediate NATO-membership invitation.
"either Ukraine will have nuclear weapons, and then this is defense for us, or we should have some kind of an alliance."
After facing controversy over his remarks about nuclear weapons, he clarified that Ukraine is not developing nuclear weapons and that he meant there is no stronger security guarantee than joining NATO.

South Korean novelist Han Kang, who won the Nobel Prize in Literature last week, made her first public appearance this week, where she voiced her desire to continue writing and finish 3 books within the next 6 years.
Choi Soo-hyung tells us more.
On Thursday, South Korean author Han Kang, the country's first Nobel Prize in Literature, attended the 18th Pony Chung Innovation Award ceremony for her first public appearance since the Nobel Prize announcement.
"The past week, so many people celebrated as if it were their own achievement, I will remember that as a deeply touching experience. Since I connect with the world through my writing, I want to keep writing and meeting readers, just as I have done so far."
After the Nobel Prize announcement, Han declined all press conferences and interviews, except for a short interview with the Swedish media outlet SVT.
She made her first appearance to receive the Pony Chung Innovation Award.
That award was established in 2006 and is given to individuals or groups who bring positive change to Korean society through innovative thinking.
The Pony Chung Foundation had already chosen Han as the winner on September 19th, and it was known that she had planned to attend even before the Nobel Prize announcement.
The foundation explained that she was selected for her deep exploration of the human soul and her powerful ability to evoke emotions that captivate readers worldwide.
Previous winners of the award include Hwang Dong-hyuk, director of the Netflix series "Squid Game," Cho Seong-jin, the first Korean to win the Chopin Competition in 2015, and former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.
Han Kang also mentioned that this year marks her 30th year of writing, and she is currently working hard to finish a novel she started earlier this year, aiming to complete it by the first half of next year.
She added that in the next six years before she turns 60, she hopes to complete three more books.

The NATO defense ministers' meeting is in full swing in Brussels.
And for the very first time, the so-called IP4 nations, including South Korea, are taking part in the meeting.
Let's turn to Professor Andrew Millard for more.
Welcome.
1. The so-called IP4 countries are also taking part in the NATO defense ministers' meeting for the very first time.
Why is this significant? Why the need for the IP4 nations to participate now?
2. How can South Korea contribute and work with NATO countries when it comes to defense?
3. Will Ukraine be able to garner much support from the NATO members this time as well?
4. Unveiling his victory plan, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reiterated his desire to see his country join NATO.
Will that idea be mentioned at the NATO defense ministers' meeting?
How achievable is his desire?
5. Speculations are high that North Korean soldiers have been dispatched to Russia to help its fight against Ukraine.
Why is it necessary for NATO defense ministers to discuss such speculation?
Thanks so much for sharing your insight with us this morning.
Have a good day.

Now, let's take a look at the stories from around the world with our Kim Siyoung .
Good morning, Siyoung.
Let's begin today with the suicide bomb attack in Somalia's capital. What was the damage and do we know who was behind it?
Yes Dami, starting off today with news from Somalia's capital Mogadishu, where a suicide bomber detonated an unidentified device at a café outside a police training school.
According to Somalia's state media, at least seven people were killed, and six others injured in Thursday's attack.
Somali police said the bomber, allegedly disguised as a soldier, entered the establishment located outside the General Kaahiye Police Academy and detonated a bomb when questioned by people suspicious of his identity.
The seven killed on Thursday included police officers, soldiers and civilians.
Later the same day, al-Qaeda linked militant group, al-Shabab, published a statement online claiming responsibility for the attack.
Al-Shabab has previously claimed responsibility for multiple terror attacks in Somalia, including the attack on a public beach that killed 37 people in August.

Moving onto Bangladesh, where the country's International Crimes Tribunal issued an arrest warrant for former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Thursday, for her alleged involvement in "crimes against humanity" during the violent protests that erupted earlier this year, where hundreds were killed.
77-year-old Hasina, who controlled the country for more than 20 years, was ousted by mass protests in August, and fled to India.
The ICT's chief prosecutor said Hasina was in control of those who "committed massacres, killings and crimes against humanity in July to August,", and ordered the arrest of Hasina to appear in court in November.
The protests began as a student-led movement against government job quotas, but a deadly escalation left over 1,000 people dead according to Bangladesh's interim health ministry.

In India now where police reported Thursday that at least 25 people died and many others were hospitalized after consuming tainted illicit liquor in the country's eastern state of Bihar.
Authorities say 22 suspects had been arrested for alleged involvement in production and sale of the tainted liquor.
Bihar state banned the sale and purchase of liquor in 2016.
Deaths from consuming illegally produced liquor are not rare in India with 57 people killed by toxic bootleg alcohol in the country's southern state of Tamil Nadu in June.

After years on the watch list, South Korea's government bonds will soon be included in the World Government Bond Index.
To delve into what this milestone means for the nation's economy, our finance correspondent Moon Hye-ryeon joins us here in the studio.
Hye-ryeon, first of all, what exactly is the World Government Bond Index?
Well, Jung-min, it's a prestigious global index that tracks the performance of high-quality government bonds from developed and emerging countries.
If a country’s government bonds are included, it can have major economic implications.
FTSE Russell announced last week that South Korea would be officially joining the ranks of its benchmark index starting November next year, after being placed on its watch list since 2022.
To be included, strict criteria related to market quality, liquidity, and accessibility must be met, and there was speculation that Seoul would only be given the green light next year.
The inclusion was therefore reported to be something of a surprise, but a number of reforms to increase accessibility for foreign investors ticked the boxes needed for the FTSE to make its decision.
South Korea already met the requirements for market size, but it extended its foreign exchange trading hours and simplified procedures for foreign investors earlier this year.
You mentioned that being listed on the index could have major economic implications. What are they?
The government and analysts anticipate a number of economic benefits, but there are three that are seen as being particularly important.
Following the announcement, President Yoon Suk Yeol spoke of the first – inflow of foreign capital.
75 trillion won – around 55 billion U.S. dollars – isn’t just a random number.
It’s been calculated by taking South Korea’s 2-point-2 percent portion of the index that is linked with roughly 2-point-5 trillion dollars of total capital.
As the index is closely watched by major institutional investors, once a country’s bonds are included, these funds are likely to buy them to ensure their portfolios match the index.
And this influx of global investment is also expected to affect interest rates.
“Interest rates are expected to stabilize, reducing funding costs for citizens and businesses.”
Higher demand for bonds lowers yields as investors accept lower returns for stability.
According to the Korea Institute of Finance, the inclusion in the WGBI is expected to lower government bond interest rates by about point-two to point-six percentage points through the influx of government bond funds.
This has a trickle-down effect for corporate bonds too.
As government bond yields fall, corporate bonds become more attractive, which in turn reduces funding costs for companies.
Analysts also predict greater stability in the foreign exchange market.
“Korean currency markets – the won exchange rate – tend to be volatile in part because the Korean won-dollar market is so small.”
This means that any large transactions can make the market volatile, so a larger market with more debt could stabilize the won’s exchange rates.
For example, research from the Korea Capital Market Institute has shown that countries included in the WGBI experienced a definite currency appreciation against the dollar.
Going forward, are there any other further steps that South Korea needs to take before it officially joins the index?
There were expectations that FTSE Russell would continue to keep South Korea on the watchlist this year due to the government’s ban on short-selling.
Short-selling – or "shorting" – is when investors trade with borrowed shares, and they do this in the hope that the price will fall later, so they can buy them back at a lower price and pocket the difference.
The government placed a market-wide ban on short-selling last November as it prepared to develop a system to control illicit trading practices after the financial watchdog imposed record-high fines on two international investment banks.
Initially, the ban was due to be lifted in June but it was extended until March next year to test and establish an electronic system to prevent naked short-selling.
President Yoon pledged to further elevate South Korea's capital markets through the Corporate Value-up Program which aims to eliminate the so-called "Korea discount" an undervaluing of South Korean stocks.
Thank you for your report today, Hye-ryeon.
Thank you for having me.

The former commissioner of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, Kim Kwang-ho, was found not guilty of negligence in his handling of the Itaewon disaster, which happened two years ago.
The Seoul Western District Court ruled on Thursday that negligence by Kim in performing his duties was not proven.
The court explained it was unlikely Kim could have specifically predicted the disaster, and that a direct link between his actions and the tragedy was unclear.
Two other officials, who were on duty the day of the disaster and accused of the same charge, were also found not guilty.
However, about three weeks ago, former chief of Yongsan Police Station in Seoul, Lee Im-jae was found guilty of negligence.

Welcome to Within the Frame, where we delve into the most up-to-date stories across the globe, I'm Kim Mok-yeon.
Amid rising conflicts across many parts of the world, the two-day NATO Defense Ministers Meeting kicked off in Brussels on Thursday.
Defense chiefs from 32 member states are to discuss ways to strengthen deterrence, support war-stricken Ukraine, and foster cooperation with global partners.
The latest event will be a special occasion, especially for South Korea as the so-called IP4 nations South Korea, Australia, Japan, and New Zealand have been invited to join for the first time.
So what are the major points of discussion, and what could be South Korea's biggest takeaway?
For answers to this, we are joined by Robert Kelly, Professor of International Relations at Pusan National University.
Welcome to the show, professor.
Also joining us is Kim Young-jun, a Professor of National Security College at the Korea National Defense University.
Great to have you, Professor.
(KELLY) 1. So, Professor Kelly, the official outcomes are yet to be released. But what could be the key agenda items for
this meeting?
(KIM) 2. As we've mentioned, for the first time, the so-called IP4 has been invited to the meeting. Professor Kim, what significance and context does this invitation hold?
(KELLY) 3. In the wake of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, what is the current state of relations between Russia and North Korea, as well as the Russia-China alliance? Professor Kelly, How is the tight-knit relationship between the three perceived internationally?
(KELLY) 4. The IP4 has been invited to NATO's summit and foreign ministers' meetings for three consecutive years. Could this suggest that the IP4 is effectively securing a quasi-member status within NATO?
(KIM) 5. Now to Professor Kim, During the meeting, what practical areas of cooperation do you anticipate NATO to discuss particularly with the IP4?
(KIM) 6. In its 2022 "New Strategic Concept," NATO identified China as a threat for the very first time. What role might South Korea play in NATO's efforts to counter China? If military cooperation would be on the table, what impact could this have on Seoul-Beijing relations?
(KELLY) 7. How about you, Professor Kelly? How can South Korea balance its commitments to NATO with its relationships with China and North Korea, especially in light of the current geopolitical landscape?
(KELLY) 8. At the suggestion of Australia, there will also be a separate meeting between the IP4.
This marks a significant occasion, as it will be the first time these four countries meet without other NATO members. What does Australia want, and what are they likely to discuss?
(KIM) 9. NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte has emphasized prioritizing support for Ukraine. He could ask for support from partner nations like Seoul.
Given that South Korea has not provided lethal aid to Ukraine, Professor Kim do you think there could be changes?
(KIM) 10. Meanwhile, Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba is advocating for an "Asian version of NATO."
What is the feasibility of this initiative, and what does Ishiba want to pursue through this?
Alright, we'll have to conclude our discussion here.
Thank you so much for your time and your insights tonight Professor Kim, and Professor Kelly.
Now that wraps up our program for tonight, thank you so much for joining us.
We'll be back tomorrow at 8:30PM Korea time. Until then, good bye.

Ukraine says thousands of North Korean troops are currently training in Russia for deployment to border areas.
South Korea for its part is responding with much concern to these latest events.
Our correspondent Kim Jung-sil reports.
South Korea announced Thursday that it is carefully tracking reports of North Korean troop deployments to Russia.
"If the reports are true, it means North Korea is not only trading arms with Russia but also directly participating in the war. Our government considers this a very serious issue."
The government underscored that such actions would fall under international scrutiny and sanctions, calling once again for a halt to the illicit military cooperation between Moscow and Pyongyang.
The response from the government came as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy repeated his recent claims that North Korea is now sending military personnel to help Russia’s war effort, as well as transferring weapons.
Experts in South Korea say Pyongyang likely would have sent the troops, based on the recent comprehensive strategic partnership treaty between Russia and North Korea that states military coordination in the case of foreign attacks.
"I think the claim made by the President of Ukraine is credible. It is likely that Pyongyang will gradually escalate the intensity of its troop deployments to Russia in line with this agreement."
Russia's foreign ministry was quick to dismiss the allegations, calling them "irrelevant."
"North Korea and Russia both deny this but there seems to be rather strong evidence. A recent development suggests that North Korea-Russia relations are morphing into a de facto military alliance."
Meanwhile, U.S. President Joe Biden is visiting Germany on Thursday to discuss continued support for Ukraine.
