I tried to do this back in march/april but couldn't find the last input and gave up. came back to it today and searched several regions of inputs and eventually found this. also from march/april I found a 2 input start that got past the engine off part in about 30 minutes, but it was on the right side of the checkpoint and I really needed to be on the left side.8 puzzle fmc marathon - 100/100 optimal in 18:10ben19961232022-06-10 | event: generate 100 8 puzzle scrambles and the lengths of the optimal solutions, then optimally solve as many as you can, by hand, as fast as possible[TAS] TMNF B04 in 2 inputs (15.72), 3 inputs (12.89)ben19961232022-04-01 | 0 press up 4380 steer -10675

bruteforced a lot of inputs close to each of these (all possible combinations of inputs within +/- some steer amount and +/- some time) and these are the fastest runs within the ranges I searched (around 100k inputs for the 2 input run, and 1.2 million for the 3 input run (+/-50 steer and +/-0.05 time on both inputs))[TAS] TMNF A02 in 1 input (43:30.94)ben19961232022-03-24 | 2566110 press up[TAS] TMNF A01 in 1 input (12:22.36)ben19961232022-03-21 | 667320 press up
this works because the car is constantly moving by tiny amounts. presumably, the game tries to apply the gravitational force to the car which moves it a bit, then it does collision detection which moves it almost back to where it was but not exactly. and because the game is chaotic (i.e. very sensitive to the initial state), moving by the smallest possible amount and then repeating the same inputs can quickly result in a completely different outcome.
I ran a script for around 24 hours checking every possible "press up" time and 11:07.32 is the first one that finishes. there were around 10 or so others that managed to get the ring checkpoint, and I think three that made it up to the final platform, but two got stuck on the wall right next to the finish and the other got stuck on one of the posts.[TAS] TMNF A06 in 4 inputs (44.44)ben19961232022-03-19 | 0 press up 2040 steer 27153 2740 steer -4864 20790 steer 8562
